380: Chapter 379: Love Tribulation?
“Mistress, you already repaid his favor by lending him a bow and arrow,” the Jade Rabbit hesitated, then stopped short, her eyes complex as she looked at the Guanghan Fairy.
“Have you truly developed feelings for him?
To the point where you would marry the Jade Emperor for his sake?
This is…”
In truth, the Jade Rabbit had her own selfish desires because she knew Ye Xuan’s past and what kind of person he was.
Ye Xuan had died three hundred years ago, which had removed one of her worries.
Yet, she hadn’t anticipated that the Guanghan Fairy would make a trade with the Jade Emperor for Ye Xuan’s sake, a trade in which the Fairy herself was the bargaining chip, something the Jade Rabbit could not accept, no matter what.
For in the Jade Rabbit’s heart, the only person in all of Heaven and Earth, across the Three Realms, who truly deserved the Guanghan Fairy was one individual, a great deity of the Witch Clan named Da Yi.
Since the great war between the Witch and Demon Clans, Da Yi had vanished from Heaven and Earth, his fate unknown, but the Jade Rabbit always believed that Da Yi was still in the Human World, and her connection with him was profound.
In times long past, the Jade Rabbit was but a rabbit spirit in the Primordial Wilds, naive and attacked by a Wolf Demon, fortunate to have been rescued and taught a Cultivation Technique by Da Yi, allowing her to shape-shift.
She was then given to the Guanghan Fairy, to whom she remained a constant companion.
Da Yi had been her benefactor, the epitome of a man in the Jade Rabbit’s eyes, and she too believed that among all the beings, only Da Yi was worthy of the Guanghan Fairy.
However, Ye Xuan’s emergence made the Jade Rabbit realize something—that her mistress had surprisingly developed feelings for this bastard Ye Xuan, an idea she found unimaginable.
“Perhaps he is my tribulation of the heart,” the Guanghan Fairy said bitterly.
By this time, even though she didn’t want to admit her feelings for Ye Xuan, she was beginning to doubt herself.
In the Primordial Spirit Void, all was still.
Ye Xuan looked at the Guanghan Fairy with a strange gaze, his face a tapestry of complexities.
He had come today to meet the Fairy, yet he had overheard such words.
Never had Ye Xuan thought that the Guanghan Fairy could have feelings for him, a thought that panicked him and left him uncertain about how to behave.
He had always regarded the Guanghan Fairy as his own possession, admiring her beauty and even telling himself that one day he would make her his woman; however, he harbored no thoughts of love whatsoever.
At that moment, however, Ye Xuan’s heart was beating, a novel sensation growing within him—a sensation he knew to be infatuation, what mortals call love.
But this feeling caused Ye Xuan great turmoil, to the point where he wanted to flee from the Guanghan Fairy’s side.
Any semblance of compassion had been discarded by Ye Xuan, as had love since the death of Ye Ling’er left him without any family.
Such emotions had always been beneath his concern.
Yet now, his frozen heart seemed on the verge of cracking, which filled him with dread, shaking even his steadfast will.
“What’s happening to me?” Ye Xuan asked himself, his heart pounding in shock.
“I…fall in love with this foolish woman?
What a joke!”
Ye Xuan’s face contorted, his mind in complete disarray; even his aura began to fluctuate.
“Tribulation of the heart?”
Suddenly, Ye Xuan’s voice trembled as he tried desperately to calm his emotions, his gaze becoming fixated.
“No…it can’t be, can it?”
Ye Xuan forced a laugh and murmured, panic flickering in his eyes, unable to believe that he would encounter this so-called tribulation of the heart—it seemed like a fantasy.
There are three types of love: familial, friendship, and romantic.
Ye Xuan had experienced the love of family and the friendship with Liu Baiyi, but this so-called romantic love he had never touched, turning away from it, consciously or not.
In those years, Ye Xuan underwent a mortal transformation in the Human World to seek Enlightenment, where he experienced both kinship and friendship, and gained a deeper understanding of the human condition—birth, aging, sickness, death, natural disasters, and misfortune.
Yet love was something he purposefully avoided, which was precisely why he had not taken a wife and fathered children during his time as a mortal.
Because Ye Xuan had never needed love—such a useless and lowly thing was, in his eyes, nothing but a joke and something he utterly disdained.
It must have been a mistaken feeling, yes, that must be it.
Ye Xuan’s breath became disordered, daring not to look at the Guanghan Fairy again, he transformed into a streak of flowing light and shot away, as if fleeing from some terrifying thing.
“Who?”
Suddenly, the Guanghan Fairy’s expression changed.
She looked towards where Ye Xuan had been, but saw only a speck of golden light vanishing without a trace.
Clearly Ye Xuan’s erratic breath had caused a flaw in his Primordial Spirit Void Secret Technique, which in turn allowed the Guanghan Fairy to spot a trace of him, as she meticulously searched for the presence of this aura.
“This…
this aura is…?”
An indescribable sense of familiarity burgeoned in the Guanghan Fairy’s heart, leaving her features blank and her unable to recovert her senses for a long while.
“Is…
it him…
he’s…
he’s still alive?”
Suddenly flush with emotion, the Guanghan Fairy’s slender frame trembled, her voice quivering intensely.
“Master, what’s…
what’s wrong with you?” the Jade Rabbit asked in confusion.
“He…
he’s still alive…
Ye Xuan is still alive…
I just sensed his presence,” the Guanghan Fairy said with a trembling voice, her agitation causing her to shake the Jade Rabbit’s shoulders.
“Impossible!”
Hearing the words of the Guanghan Fairy, the Jade Rabbit’s expression shifted slightly, saying, “Master, it’s absolutely impossible for him to be alive.
Yu Ding, the Real Man, had severely wounded him long ago, and moreover, he activated the Forbidden Heaven Technique to invoke the Heavenly Demon Possession; he had already died, his soul scattered.”
“But…
but I truly sensed his presence,” the Guanghan Fairy bit her lip softly, her voice still shaking, a hint of confusion flickering in her eyes, clearly she too knew that Ye Xuan couldn’t possibly have survived.
Was she really just hallucinating?
“Master, please stop thinking about him, it truly breaks my heart to see you like this,” the Jade Rabbit sighed helplessly.
“Heh!”
The Guanghan Fairy’s voice was filled with bitterness as she murmured, “Indeed, how could someone who’s dead reappear in the world?
It seems I must be hallucinating.”
…
In the Thirty-Three Heavens of the Heavenly Court.
Ye Xuan, with his golden light concealed, had his breath collapse into the void, his visage became terrifying and twisted, as if he had gone through an unprecedented great battle.
Heart in turmoil, spirit unsettled, his mind was completely flooded with the miserable visage of the Guanghan Fairy; this gave Ye Xuan an indescribable sensation of panic.
A tribulation of love, yes, it had to be a tribulation of love!
Ye Xuan roared wildly in his heart, his eyes turning slightly red, for although he could deceive himself, his heart was telling him that an emotion known as love was beginning to burgeon within his spirit.
Hum!
He sat in the void, suppressing himself.
