Chapter 372 - 372 371 Leaving the Pass
372: Chapter 371: Leaving the Pass 372: Chapter 371: Leaving the Pass “No, it can’t be right, there must be a high personage within this forbidden area, although Father Emperor never spoke clearly, I can never forget his look, I will never forget it!”
Zhao Lin rambled on in madness, saying, “Father Emperor was very afraid, that…
that was a look of reverence…
I…
I have never seen Father Emperor so panicked before…”
Suddenly, Zhao Lin grabbed Empress Li’s shoulders and shook her, “Do you know that the Eldest Prince once strayed into the forbidden area, and that Father Emperor strangled the Eldest Prince to death with his own hands?”
“The Eldest Prince?”
“That was the son whom Father Emperor loved the most, yet Father Emperor killed him with his own hands, he killed him!”
Zhao Lin ranted crazily, his entire being plunged into a silent terror, as if he were reliving the scenes of that year, his body trembling slightly.
“But…
what does this have to do with Your Majesty?” Of course, Empress Li knew of this matter, but she was quite puzzled as to why Zhao Lin would bring it up again.
“How could this matter not concern me?
For it was I who led the Eldest Prince into the forbidden area that year!”
Zhao Lin gave a bitter smile, which greatly altered the expression on Empress Li’s face; she had not expected Zhao Lin to have done such a despicable thing.
“It’s all in the past, everything is over, Your Majesty, please don’t bring it up again!” Empress Li pulled Zhao Lin into her arms, trying to soften her voice as she soothed Zhao Lin repeatedly.
“No, it must be mentioned, after Father Emperor killed the Eldest Prince that year, he knelt down just like this, as if apologizing to some presence, it was then I knew there must be a formidable figure in this forbidden area.” Zhao Lin’s lips turned white; his voice was utterly convinced.
That day, Zhao Lin spoke of many secrets, leaving Empress Li with a pounding heart.
But now, nothing mattered anymore, for in three days the Kingdom of Aolai would cease to exist.
As the sun set and night fell, Zhao Lin finally retreated because no matter how he pleaded with the being within the forbidden area, he received not a single response.
…
Three days later!
The kingdom fell, and cries shook the heavens.
The gates of the Kingdom of Aolai were broken, and a million-strong army poured in.
Countless civilians perished within the city, and numerous soldiers from Aolai went on a rampage of burning, killing, and looting, plunging the entire capital city into a storm of blood and wind.
Imperial Palace!
The Aolai General led thirty thousand troops straight into the palace, each slash of his sword claiming a multitude of lives.
Catching sight of the good-looking palace maids and concubines, he had them all captured to be enjoyed at his leisure once the war ended.
Bang!
The palace gate shattered, and the Aolai General strode in grandly.
However, the scene before his eyes caused him to pause, and then a cruel smile played upon his lips.
“Zhao Lin, you little rat, I thought you had already fled.
I didn’t expect you to have some kingly backbone, staying behind in the Imperial Palace.” The Aolai General said with a cold laugh.
On the imperial throne, Zhao Lin sat clad in the Nine Dragon Emperor Robe.
His face showed no fear, and as he looked toward the Aolai General, his eyes conveyed a sense of calm.
“I am the Son of Heaven, even if I become a king of a fallen state, I must share its fate.” Zhao Lin spoke with dignity.
“Ha ha!”
The Aolai General laughed mockingly and then looked around, saying, “What you call dignity, to me, is nothing but dogshit.
Today, not only will you die, but every member of your Zhao line must die as well.”
“Li Guang, as the General of Aolai, I know you have left a trail of corpses, laying waste to the land in your path.
If you so wish to exterminate my Zhao line, then follow me.”
Zhao Lin rose from his throne and walked slowly towards the Imperial Garden, while Li Guang smiled coldly, not the least bit afraid of any tricks Zhao Lin might have up his sleeve, since the entire capital city was already surrounded by the million-strong army he led, with no one to save the life of any Zhao descendant.
At the end of the Imperial Garden, a blood-colored stele stood out prominently.
All the members of the Zhao line were seated on both sides of the stele.
As Zhao Lin slowly approached his kin, his eyes looking towards the depths of the forbidden area, they held a final glimmer of hope.
Back against the wall, in a fight for their lives, Zhao Lin knew he had reached a dead end.
Now, only the existence in the forbidden area might turn the tide, which was why he had gathered his kin here.
“Zhao Lin, you little rat, no matter what trick you’re trying to play, today you and all your kin shall die here.”
Li Guang had naturally seen the blood-colored stele, but he held no trepidation in his heart.
Unsheatheing his steel sword, he led his soldiers to enclose Zhao Lin and the others.
Bang!
Suddenly, Zhao Lin knelt down in front of the blood-colored stele, his voice filled with sorrow and despair, “I implore you, predecessor, to intervene and save the lives of the entire Zhao line.”
“Today, no one will save you!”
Li Guang let out a sinister cold laugh and swung his sword at Zhao Lin.
This caused the Zhao line to scream in horror and made Zhao Lin clench his fists tightly, staring hard at the depths of the forbidden area, yet a trace of despair flickered across his eyes.
Was there really no high personage within the forbidden area?
Was it all just his unfounded speculation?
The chill of the approaching sword caused the hairs on Zhao Lin’s neck to stand on end, leading him to a wry smile of despair and to close his eyes in resignation to death.
Hum!
Time seemed to stand still, and space appeared to freeze; this Heaven and Earth suddenly became stagnant, a breeze blew across, dispersing the fog from the depths of the forbidden area.
A slender figure casually emerged from the thick mist, without any aura of power or even a hint of breath, but when his eyes opened and closed, it seemed as though the celestial bodies were orbiting within them.
Step—Step—Step.
Like the thunder of the Nine Heavens exploding, or the surging waves of the vast ocean approaching, Ye Xuan’s eyes slightly furrowed, showing only a color of indifference and ruthlessness.
Yet, with each step he took, the surrounding Heaven and Earth twisted to the extreme, as if it were about to collapse at any moment.
“Is this…
this the being that my father feared?”
When Zhao Lin saw Ye Xuan stepping out from the forbidden area, he froze completely, his body trembling incessantly, because he knew that the Zhao lineage might be saved.
Not just Zhao Lin, all members of the Zhao lineage stared dumbfounded at Ye Xuan, unsure of what kind of relation he had with their lineage.
“Who…
who are you?”
Li Guang’s body tensed, he seemed even more furious and breathless as he roared his question at Ye Xuan, because the sudden appearance of this man gave him a sense of deadly oppression, making him feel short of breath.
Unfortunately, facing such a fragile mortal like Li Guang, Ye Xuan had no intention of paying any attention.
His eyes narrowed slightly, and a truly terrifying event occurred.
Bang!
The void collapsed, all things were annihilated, and before Li Guang could even scream, he turned into ash and ceased to exist in this world.
And it wasn’t just Li Guang; tens of thousands of soldiers from the Kingdom of Aolai shattered like brittle dust, all turning to ash and vanishing without a trace, rendering the area utterly silent.
Zhao Lin collapsed to the ground, looking as if he had lost his senses.
Had he not witnessed it with his own eyes, he would have never believed such a scene.
Tens of thousands of troops, gone in the blink of an eye—this was surely the work of an Immortal.
It was then that Zhao Lin finally understood why his father had designated this place as forbidden, and why he had personally killed the Eldest Prince—out of fear of provoking this being within the forbidden land.
“Are you Zhao Gou’s son?”
His manner light as wind, still as clouds, Ye Xuan looked indifferently at Zhao Lin, his voice very calm.
“The junior, Zhao Lin, the seventh son of my father, offers his respects to you,” Zhao Lin said, returning to his senses and kneeling to kowtow without any delay.
“Where is Zhao Gou now?” Ye Xuan’s eyes narrowed slightly.
“My father has passed away, and on his deathbed, he instructed us, his descendants, not to disturb your tranquil meditation.
Today, our Zhao lineage is facing the great disaster of national extinction, so I implore you to look upon my father’s thin favor and help our small holy nation through this calamity,” Zhao Lin said tremblingly, continuing to kowtow to Ye Xuan.
Hearing Zhao Lin’s words, Ye Xuan nodded, not too surprised in his heart.
After all, it was not strange for Zhao Gou to die of old age in the Mortal World after three hundred years had passed.
“It’s fine.
Your father had a fate with me and helped me find many materials for setting up arrays.
Today, I shall repay him this favor.”
Ye Xuan spoke calmly, stepping into the air, but behind him came Zhao Lin’s anxious voice.
“Elder, our Capital City is now surrounded by a million-strong army from the Kingdom of Aolai.
You…”
Unfortunately, Ye Xuan did not stop.
When he reappeared, he was already sitting cross-legged in the Heavenly Vault.
Above the vault, in the void.
A glimmer of Immortal Light bloomed from Ye Xuan’s hands as he overlooked the city below, a hint of ruthlessness flashing in his eyes.
“Slay!”
With the command followed by action, Immortal Light shook the heavens, and a Great Immortal Technique rained down, covering the entire city below in a scene of a Blood Sea adrift with corpses.
Boom Boom Boom!
The million-strong army of the Kingdom of Aolai, their bodies pulverized into nothingness under the Luotian Golden Light, the mist of blood filling the sky, accompanied by the horrifying sound of wails.
Helpless cries, pleas for mercy, all were unceasing to the ear.
But Ye Xuan had not a shred of pity, sitting above the Heavenly Vault, indifferently watching the million-strong army die tragically below in the small holy nation’s Capital City.
“The lives of mortals are too fragile,” Ye Xuan said slowly, shaking his head in lament.
“Which Demon dares to slaughter the beings of the Human World?”
Suddenly, a majestic and angry voice thundered through the Heaven and Earth, causing the lands to tremble.
A swath of Daluo Golden Light diffused across the sky, an unimaginable pressure bearing down on Ye Xuan.
“Hmm?”
“A Daluo Golden Immortal?”
Ye Xuan’s expression changed slightly, his eyes turning fierce.
He never expected that, three hundred years after secluding himself to refine the Reverse Immortal Array Map, he would encounter a Daluo Golden Immortal upon emerging.
Purple aura billowed for thirty thousand miles, Daluo Immortal Light covering the skies.
Amidst the shaking of the boundless Heaven and Earth, a young man dressed in a purple Emperor’s Robe, crossing a hundred thousand miles of sky, approached Ye Xuan.
“Who are you?”
Ye Xuan rose from the void, hands clasped behind his back as he gazed at the newcomer, his voice cold and grim.
