Chapter 222 - 221: Caught A Wild Woman

Chapter 222: Chapter 221: Caught A Wild Woman

Rex didn’t go full action-movie mode. No sudden hero leap, no dramatic punch. Nah—he kept it real. He just stood there, ears wide open, heart pounding like a drumline.

He figured if they were still talking, there might be more to learn. Maybe they’d slip up. Maybe he’d catch something else useful. But after a minute or two,the conversation nosedived into useless territory. The guards started chatting about drinks, some party jokes, laughing about sneaking champagne behind the boss’s back.

Useless.

Rex took the hint. Time to bounce—quietly, carefully, and before someone turned that corner. Otherwise, there was a real risk of getting spotted, and he wasn’t ready to test his luck twice in one night.

He turned the recording off and slowly, cautiously, he began backing away, his movements deliberate and silent. He stuck close to the wall, hugging the edge of the shadows, and slipped into a nearby hallway. His heart still hammered in his chest, but he kept it simple. Quiet steps. Calm nerves. Just get out before anyone noticed.

One cool thing about these mega-mansions? Too damn big. Too many corridors. Too many doors. Normally a nightmare for guests trying to find the bathroom, but right now? It was working in his favor.

After a few turns that felt like a maze straight out of a horror game, he spotted a side door partially hidden behind a jungle of indoor plants. Jackpot.

He slipped through, pushed it open—and boom. Finally, Night air.

Fresh, crisp, real. The scent of damp grass and garden hedges hit him like a breath of freedom.

He stepped outside into the back garden, letting the cool air wrap around him like a sanity blanket.

Finally. A second to breathe.

He took a deep breath, letting the cool air hit his lungs like a reset button.

"Damn," Rex muttered to himself, dragging a hand down his face. "That was one hell of a ride. Seriously, has anyone ever had a more messed-up night than this?"

He ticked it off in his head: car crash, surprise designer suit, awkward flirting, busted celebrity affair, luxury pool, exclusive party—and then, boom. Celebrity-laced drug-fueled freakshow. Sprinkle in some attempted diva-trafficking and yeah, it was straight outta a twisted Netflix thriller.

"All this in what? A few hours? People don’t see this much crazy in a lifetime."

He stopped walking, staring at the moonlit hedges like they’d give him answers.

"Nah, this ain’t normal. This smells like plot. Like heavy-handed cosmic setup."

And then it clicked.

"Hey, dog system—you there? This got your paws all over it."

[Host, please refrain from slandering the system. System only presents opportunities. What you walk into is entirely your choice.]

Rex rolled his eyes. "Don’t play innocent with me. You literally gave me the mission to ’form a major connection tonight.’ That whole circus back there didn’t scream ’casual mixer.’"

[System did detect statistically significant chances of high-value interactions. It merely... nudged you toward potential.]

"Nudged? Bro, I was nose-dived into a pit of scandal and sin!"

[You’re welcome. It builds character.]

Rex shook his head, a half-laugh escaping. "Unreal. Just tell me one thing: is that mission still active, or was all that horror show the ’connection’ part?"

[Mission is ongoing. Optimal targets are still within reach. Proceed wisely. And maybe avoid any rooms labeled ’Zone Four.’]

"Thanks for the tip," Rex said, sarcastic. "Real lifesaver."

As if satisfied with its cryptic little message, the system went silent again. No goodbye, no flashy exit. Just poof—gone.

Rex exhaled sharply and shook his head. "Whatever, man..."

His mind snapped back to Monica and that mission—’form a major connection tonight.’ Was that still the goal? Because if it was, then he needed to get moving.

He straightened up, ran a hand through his hair, adjusted his collar, and gave his face a quick once-over using his phone screen as a mirror.

"Alright, showtime again," he muttered, forcing a smirk.

A few steps forward and he was back in a part of the estate that looked... weirdly normal. People laughing, drinking, chatting under fairy lights and soft jazz. Like some picture-perfect rich-kid prom.

"Damn," Rex whispered, scanning the crowd. "A few minutes ago I thought this was the shady side of town. But after that freaky orgy room? This crowd looks like saints at Sunday brunch."

Everyone still had masks, still dressed to impress, still laughed a little too loud and spoke a little too fake—but at least they weren’t trying to spike drinks or perform some cult ritual.

"At least these degenerates are pretending to be human," Rex muttered, walking further in.

But just as he took a few steps forward, eyes darting around the party in search of that "major connection" or maybe even Monica, he didn’t notice the woman watching him from across the lawn with eyes full of mischief—and something a little too hungry.

She walked toward him, heels tapping softly on the stone path. And just when they were about to pass each other, she stumbled dramatically. Rex, lost in thought, snapped to attention and instinctively caught her by the waist.

It was straight out of a movie. Classic heroine-falls, hero-catches setup. They locked eyes. His hands were on her waist. Her body pressed against his. Her perfume hit him like a sweet trap.

And that’s when he noticed the dress.

A black nightgown-style gown, silky and elegant—except for the plunging neckline that seemed to dive straight into the deep valley of her chest, leaving very little to the imagination.

He gulped. Literally. Couldn’t help it.

The woman caught it. She smirked—but only in her mind. On the outside, she gave him a look of innocent surprise, a touch of confusion, maybe even a hint of shyness. Like oops, silly me! when really, everything about that stumble was calculated.

Rex blinked, trying to recompose himself.

"Uh... you okay?"

She looked up at him with wide eyes, all soft and sweet, as if she hadn’t just pulled a move straight out of a rom-com. "Oh! I’m so sorry," she said, her voice light and airy, just the right amount of flustered. "I didn’t see you there."

Rex helped her stand upright, but his hands lingered a second longer than necessary—not on purpose, just... reflexes. Maybe. Hopefully.

"No harm done," he replied, offering a crooked smile. "You alright though? Didn’t twist an ankle or anything?"

She gave a light laugh. "No, no. All good. Thanks to you, hero."

He raised an eyebrow. "Hero? That’s a bit much, don’t you think?"

"Maybe," she teased, brushing her hair back and letting her hand graze his chest just a little too naturally. "But I’m a sucker for dramatic rescues."

Rex let out a short chuckle, trying to keep it cool despite the whirlwind of thoughts racing through his head.

"So, uh... are you always this clumsy, or did I just happen to be in the right place at the right time?"

She tilted her head, eyes twinkling. "Guess you’ll never know."

"Wanna have a glass together?" she offered, as he helped her up, her voice smoky and seductive, gaze locked onto him like he was the only one at the party.

Rex hesitated. For a second, the temptation was real. The dress, the eyes, the moment—it all screamed yes. But then Monica flashed in his mind, along with that mission.

He gave her a pained, reluctant smile. "Would’ve loved to, really. But I’ve got to meet someone. Maybe another time?"

She tilted her head, playful curiosity dancing in her eyes. "Your loss, hero."

And just like that, she turned and threw him a slow, seductive glance over her shoulder, began to walk away slowly, throwing one last glance over her shoulder.

"Name’s Ava, by the way. See you around, hero."

Rex watched her go, still a little stunned. Then shook his head with a small laugh. "Okay system, if that wasn’t a flagged event, I don’t know what is."
