Chapter 508: Chapter 528: The Fisher in Yaochi _1
"This is Yaochi..."
Zhou Yin panted and pointed to the pool in the valley below, her face excited: "When I was here with the dean, I made a successful breakthrough."
A hint of surprise flowed in Lin Chen’s eyes, as he secretly activated Haoran Jue and felt the rich spiritual energy in the air.
The concentration of spiritual energy here was at least ten times that of the outside, or even higher!
The scenery was magical. The surroundings were covered in thick layers of white snow, but the not-so-large pool in the valley showed no signs of freezing. Even more amazing, there were lush green trees around the pool, creating a surreal atmosphere.
The rock strata and pebbles around the pool were of various vibrant hues, giving the pool a sense of vitality and life.
Just as Zhou Yin said, from the mountain peak above, the pool looked like a giant, bright, and divine eye.
"There’s someone there!"
Zhou Yin suddenly cried out, her voice full of disbelief.
Lin Chen followed the direction of her finger and discovered, to his astonishment, a person sitting at the base of a huge tree that would take several people to encircle. He even had a fishing rod set up in front of him.
Lin Chen widened his eyes and asked, "Are there fish in this pool?"
Zhou Yin appeared puzzled: "I don’t know."
Lin Chen’s eyes slowly brightened.
Though fishing enthusiasts could do many crazy things for the sake of fishing, this place was deep in the Kunlun Mountain Range and inaccessible to ordinary people.
"Let’s go down and take a look!"
The two descended the snow mountain and slowly approached the pool, gradually discerning the appearance of the fisherman.
He was a middle-aged man in his forties, with short beard and long hair, dressed casually. The severe cold seemed to have no effect on him. He leaned quietly against the tree trunk, eyes closed, as if asleep.
Lin Chen’s gaze fell on the man’s long hair, which was at least thirty centimeters in length and casually tied up like a woman’s ponytail. It looked both neat and unrestrained.
His fishing rod was simple, seemingly a tree branch snapped off casually. The branch had a line tied to it, and it was unclear what the hook was baited with. The line hung straight down into the water and remained taut.
Lin Chen scanned the surface of the pool but did not see any fishing floats.
A great grandmaster!
An absolute great grandmaster!
The sound of footsteps alerted the middle-aged man. He turned his head and looked at them, his eyes sweeping over the two before settling on Lin Chen’s face, seemingly taken aback.
Lin Chen cupped his hands and said, "Senior, sorry for the disturbance!"
The middle-aged man smiled faintly: "The mountains and rivers have no owners; this pool has no owner either. I am not the master of this place, and anyone can come. There’s no need to apologize."
Lin Chen replied honestly, "Better to be courteous than not."
The middle-aged man smiled: "What brings you here? Passing by or cultivating?"
Lin Chen didn’t hesitate: "Cultivating."
The middle-aged man nodded: "Feel free to carry on, pretend I’m not here."
Lin Chen breathed a sigh of relief. This man seemed to have a good temperament. He cautiously asked, "Senior, are there fish in this pool?"
The middle-aged man nodded: "Yes, but they are hidden rather deep and difficult to catch. It’s a matter of luck. I come here to fish for a day every now and then, but perhaps my luck isn’t good, and I haven’t had any success."
Unlucky?
Lin Chen turned to look at the pool and found the water extremely clear. Apart from the central area, where the bottom wasn’t visible, the rest of the pool was crystal clear, allowing him to see the colorful stones at the bottom.
Lin Chen pondered inwardly: If he said he couldn’t catch any fish, could it be that there simply weren’t any fish in this pool at all!
If there were fish, wouldn’t they be swimming around the central area instead of staying motionless? Surely, they wouldn’t be living in any spring hole that might be at the bottom of the pool?
Instead of starting to cultivate, Lin Chen crouched beside the middle-aged man and watched him fish.
Coming to Yaochi was meant to be an opportunity for Lin Chen to practice Haoran Jue and see if he could make any progress. However, with the middle-aged man still here, Lin Chen dared not practice, for fear of being seen through and taken out by a casual move on the man’s part.
In any case, safety first.
The middle-aged man glanced at Lin Chen: "Why aren’t you cultivating?"
Lin Chen smiled honestly: "I’m stuck at the grandmaster bottleneck. The water is already full; no matter how much more I try to add, it’s useless. I need to walk around and see if I can find the opportunity to break through."
The middle-aged man smiled faintly and didn’t ask any further questions.
"Senior, how long have you been fishing this time?"
The middle-aged man casually raised his wrist and checked his watch: "In two more hours, it’ll be a full day."
Lin Chen’s eyes fell on the man’s wristwatch, feeling a little strange.
Do great grandmasters use wristwatches too?
Lin Chen crouched still, intending to keep the man company for the next two hours and then slowly cultivate once he left. For the time being, he needed to build a rapport, as the mysterious middle-aged man looked so much like a master from a Cave Sky Blessed Land.
Apart from anything else, not everyone could wear just a thin jacket in such intense cold.
With time slowly passing, the two-hour mark approached.
The middle-aged man checked his watch again and sighed with disappointment: "It seems like another fruitless day..."
Before he could finish his sentence, the fishing line suddenly pulled taut, and the makeshift rod bent sharply, snapping and shooting into the water...
