Chapter 366: Chapter 386: Your Parents Are Still Alive _1

Dusk had deepened.

Gao Zhengqiu lay in bed, already deep in sleep when the faint sound of footsteps suddenly startled him awake, and he opened his eyes.

The footsteps stopped on the balcony at the door leading to the balcony.

"Knock knock knock!"

The sound of light knocking filled the air—soft, yet it felt as if it struck at the very core of Gao Zhengqiu’s heart, causing it to clench with each passing moment.

After hesitating for two seconds, Gao Zhengqiu got up, walked to the door, and opened it.

Lin Chen stood at the door, his eyes calmly fixed on Gao Zhengqiu.

Gao Zhengqiu sighed, "Come in and talk."

Lin Chen waited for two seconds, then followed Gao Zhengqiu inside, closing the door behind him as he asked, "Did you know I was coming?"

Gao Zhengqiu sat down beside the bed, observing Lin Chen’s expression with a subtle gaze. "In one night, the Chu Family was banished from the Cultivation World, with all three of its Grandmasters killed, including Chu Songhan who fled abroad. I was originally puzzled as to the reason, but as soon as I saw you in the martial arts arena, I knew why."

Lin Chen pulled up a chair casually and sat down, "Since you knew I’d come looking for you, why didn’t you run away?"

Gao Zhengqiu laughed bitterly, "I could have run, but how could I leave so many people at the Moon Rain Sect behind? Since you’ve already traced me down, you’d obviously not let it go easily."

Lin Chen looked at him with a subtle expression, "That’s right, if you escaped, I would naturally target the other people from the Moon Rain Sect. After all, it wasn’t just you who participated in that event back then."

Gao Zhengqiu stared at Lin Chen, "Did Chu Xuankong tell you?"

Lin Chen nodded, "Yes."

Gao Zhengqiu smiled bitterly, "He must have told you that I was the most likely one to have killed your father back then, right?"

Lin Chen’s eyes narrowed slightly, "What happened in reality?"

"Your father and mother didn’t die."

Lin Chen’s heart suddenly pounded, and an irresistible surprise swept through his entire body.

Could they actually still be alive?

Since Lin Chen began investigating his origins, he had been mentally prepared for the fact that his parents were already dead. But now, finding out that they were still alive was too unexpected.

It was as if a traveler were walking down the narrow path of a mountain, the barely-visible road narrowing further with each step. When they finally reached the end, it suddenly opened up to reveal a wide, smoothly-paved main road.

With no way out in a desperate situation, a new path appears in the darkest moment.

It took Lin Chen several seconds to digest this news before he asked, "You saw me today and ran away. Why didn’t you keep running later?"

Gao Zhengqiu replied candidly, "My first reaction when I saw you was that you came for revenge. You have the strength of a Great Grandmaster, so I can’t compete with you—I naturally wanted to run. But then, I thought about it and realized that I didn’t kill your parents, so why should I run? So, I came back."

Lin Chen nodded, "Since you were waiting for me, you must have been well-prepared. Just tell me the truth then. What happened back then?"

Gao Zhengqiu stared at Lin Chen calmly, "Since you have already asked Chu Xuankong, you must know the details of what happened, right?"

Lin Chen’s expression was serene, "Why don’t you recap everything from the beginning? We still have plenty of time until daybreak."

Without retorting, Gao Zhengqiu nodded and began recounting the events of that year.

The first half of the story was the same as Chu Xuankong’s version, up until Gao Zhengqiu and Chu Xuankong split up at the lakeside while hunting Lin Yuan down. This was where their stories diverged.

"I followed the lakeside and soon found traces of Lin Yuan coming ashore. I chased after him relentlessly, and after a few miles, I saw your father. He was no longer alone—there was a woman carrying a child beside him. She was your mother, Feng Lan."

"I had not yet decided what to do when they discovered me. Your mother and I fought, but I couldn’t win. I was afraid your father might surround me, so I temporarily fled."

"I didn’t want to give up on the Heaven Opening Jade, so I kept following behind them, looking for an opportunity to strike."

"They knew I was still lurking, so they continued through the night. Your mother suddenly attacked me with a backhand strike. We fought again, and I retreated once more. When I returned, I found that the child your mother had been holding was gone."

"Your father called out to me, hiding in the dark, to tell me that the Heaven Opening Jade and child had already been sent away. Even if I followed them, it’d be useless."

Upon hearing this, Lin Chen began to form a guess in his heart.

Did his parents worry that he would be in danger if he stayed with them, so they handed him and the Heaven Opening Jade over to Master Xue Kuangren?

In other words, Lin Chen was not a child picked up by Xue Kuangren; instead, it was highly likely that his parents had personally entrusted him and the Heaven Opening Jade to Master Xue Kuangren.

Gao Zhengqiu took a deep breath, "I hunted down your father just for the Heaven Opening Jade. Since it was no longer with him, and with your mother still being by his side, even if the Jade was still there, it would be difficult for me to snatch it. So I decided to leave, but then suddenly, three unexpected guests arrived on the scene..."
