Chapter 3127 - 3147: If you don’t have the ability, yet you try to show off, you deserve it!

Chapter 3127: Chapter 3147: If you don’t have the ability, yet you try to show off, you deserve it!

"Palace lord, how do you plan to explain to her?"

Lin Chen smiled, "Give her three, just a token gesture will do. She’s already a Quasi-Saint and hardly needs them, so why waste any more?"

Lin Chen certainly wouldn’t reveal the specifics of what had transpired, as that would expose his hidden cards.

Although Lin Chen now publicly had Chu Jiaxue, a recognized Quasi-Saint by his side, Zhen Liuxue and Duan Tian were his final cards to save his own life.

If someone tried to plot against Lin Chen, they would likely kick an iron plate, especially since Lin Chen, compared to before, now held another extremely impressive hidden card.

Star Sky Jump!

Faced with danger and given just a tiny bit of time, he could effortlessly pass through space and leave the hazardous area, returning to a safe zone marked by a star.

This ability might not augment Lin Chen’s combat power by much, but when it came to escape abilities, it was absolutely maxed out. In essence, acquiring this ability was no less effective than Lin Chen becoming a Quasi-Saint.

Quasi-Saints are not invincible; didn’t Qi’s previous master get beaten to death by a mob?

Had he possessed the Star Sky Jump ability, not to mention a single Quasi-Saint, even a group of Quasi-Saints would probably fail to kill him; maybe only a Saint could personally capture him.

Chu Jiaxue asked, "Isn’t that a bit too little? Won’t the Palace lord have an opinion?"

Lin Chen said with a laugh, "If she didn’t know about my Star Sky Jump ability, I wouldn’t give her even one. But since she asked, I should at least make a token gesture, yeah, just a gesture."

In the end, Dawn Camp’s stay here to fight was all a transaction.

Although Lin Chen belonged to the Great Wilderness Palace and was under the direct management of its Palace lord, he never truly considered himself one of the Great Wilderness People.

At the right time in the future, he would undoubtedly lead Dawn Camp to decisively leave.

Lin Chen knew it, and so did the Palace lord. That’s why Lin Chen’s private conversations with the Palace lord were quite casual, and she never minded it. Many matters were negotiated, not arbitrarily ordered.

Lin Chen left the Linglong Tower with Chu Jiaxue. Chu Jiaxue returned to her quarters, and Lin Chen stepped out of the barracks.

Lin Chen planned to visit the Palace lord. Although he wasn’t planning to give much, he still had to take the initiative.

He had just approached the Palace lord’s residence when heavy and urgent footsteps sounded.

Lin Chen turned his head and saw it was Captain Zhao Ru Hai of the Giant Bear Army, walking briskly with two lieutenants, their expressions grave and angry.

Seeing this, did they know something had gone wrong with the team that went to Blood Demon Palace?

Lin Chen wasn’t surprised. Typically, important individuals carrying out dangerous missions would leave a Longevity Lamp; if the lamp went out, it meant an accident had occurred, and their soul had dispersed.

Clearly, Zhao Chenshui and the others must have left Longevity Lamps, which had now been extinguished.

Zhao Ru Hai saw Lin Chen, paused slightly in his steps, and his eyes flickered with a tinge of embarrassment.

It had been Lin Chen who initially volunteered to go to the Blood Demon Palace, but Zhao Ru Hai, eager to snatch the Qingming Divine Fruit, took over the mission. Now, with the mission failed and all personnel lost, it was equal to Zhao Ru Hai humiliating himself, slapping his own face multiple times.

Lin Chen offered a slight smile, "Captain Zhao!"

Zhao Ru Hai said gravely, "What are you doing here?"

Lin Chen replied with an easygoing tone, "Nothing much at the moment, just came to check in with the Palace lord about the next plan, to get Dawn Camp ready in advance... By the way, how’s everything at Blood Demon Palace? It’s been quite a while; they should have arrived, right?"

Zhao Ru Hai’s face darkened further. He was already frustrated about the matter, and Lin Chen’s words were rubbing salt into his wound, weren’t they?

"They met with an accident. I’m on my way to report the incident and to request a retaliatory strike, to cleanse Blood Demon Palace and avenge our soldiers!" Zhao Ru Hai declared.

Lin Chen feigned surprise, "An accident? They are dead?"

Zhao Ru Hai glared at Lin Chen, always feeling that Lin Chen’s tone was not so much inquiring as it was mocking him.

"I warned you before, but you didn’t listen, claiming that ’others wouldn’t dare to make a move.’ Now that everyone’s been killed, aren’t you ashamed?"

Zhao Ru Hai nodded stiffly, "Yes."

Lin Chen sighed, "What a pity, this matter was originally... well, I won’t delay you any longer. Go and make your report, you go first!"

Lin Chen had actually arrived first and by rights, should have been the first to seek an audience with the Palace Lord, but he had voluntarily given way, allowing Zhao Ru Hai to go ahead.

Zhao Ru Hai didn’t know what to say for a moment and could only mutter an acknowledgment before hurrying forward, speaking briefly to the guard, and then was ushered in by command of the Palace Lord.

Lin Chen just stood leisurely on the side of the road, with no intent to eavesdrop or kick Zhao Ru Hai while he was down.

He had already obtained what he wanted and was quite satisfied; he couldn’t be bothered to slap Zhao Ru Hai’s face any further.

After all, they were in the same camp, and even though the other party had been discourteous to him and poached his tasks, who made him the one to have the last laugh?

Let’s be magnanimous!

Why bother with a loser?

It wasn’t long before Zhao Ru Hai and the others came out hurriedly, not even greeting Lin Chen before departing.

Are they preparing to close the barn door after the horse has bolted, leading the Giant Bear Army to rush to the Blood Demon Palace?

Ha, by the time you get there, the Blood Demon Palace will have long been deserted.

Do they really think their enemies, having killed their men, would leisurely wait there for you to exact revenge?

It’s doomed to be a futile effort!

Lin Chen smirked and turned to head towards the residence of the Palace Lord.

Bai Zhu was standing at the entrance, smiling at Lin Chen, "Come on in."

Lin Chen walked over with a smile, "Not going to make a report?"

Bai Zhu whispered, "I saw you right when I came out; I’ve already reported to the Palace Lord."

Lin Chen joked, "Sister Bamboo, your eyesight is truly sharp!"

Bai Zhu chuckled. She was accustomed to Lin Chen’s casual manner of speaking.

Truth be told, she quite liked Lin Chen’s attitude, and she knew that the Palace Lord felt the same way internally.

Having been so high and mighty for so long, dealing with everyone in a frosty, hierarchical relationship, it was actually quite interesting to encounter someone who spoke and acted like an old friend and yet wasn’t at all off-putting.

The Palace Lord sat in a chair inside the room, watching Lin Chen walk in through the door. "The team dispatched by the Giant Bear Army to the Blood Demon Palace met with catastrophe, and all were killed. What are your thoughts?"

Lin Chen said with a laugh, "Does the Palace Lord want to hear the truth, or a comforting lie?"

If it had been anyone else being asked by the Palace Lord, even Army Commanders with significant power in their hands would definitely have answered respectfully, not daring to reply as Lin Chen did with a counter-question.

The Palace Lord, however, wasn’t angry, and her eyes even showed a trace of amusement, "Tell me both the truth and the lies."

Lin Chen nodded, his face displaying a heavy expression, "The lie is that when I heard of the soldiers’ unfortunate demise, I felt deeply sorrowful and regretful, and even a bit of regret. If only I had insisted on Dawn Camp going to the Blood Demon Palace, perhaps their deaths could have been avoided."

The Palace Lord nodded, "And the truth?"

The look of heaviness on Lin Chen’s face vanished in an instant; he spread his arms and wore a face of mockery, "Clearly lacking ability yet insistently posing as if capable, Zhao Ru Hai got what he deserved! The mission was accepted by him, he selected the men, and he gave the orders. Now, with all these men dead, Zhao Ru Hai, as the Army Commander, should bear full responsibility!"
