Chapter 2926: Chapter 2946: Didn’t They Say This Kid Was a Troublemaker?
When the two giant ships reached the encampment outside the War God Mansion, looking from above, the entire sky above the War God Mansion was filled with cultivators flying to and fro, and at the ultimate defense line further ahead, soldiers densely packed the area.
The entire War God Mansion had become a gigantic war machine, operating fully, efficiently, and terrifyingly.
Across the wilderness, one military encampment after another occupied positions for thousands of miles around.
Aside from the full members of the ten corps, who had all returned to their units, countless reservists were undergoing various emergency special trainings before war.
The ten corps’ one million immortals weren’t the limit for this battle; rather, only this many people could be accommodated to engage in the fight between the channel and the vast battlefield.
Once a corps experienced a significant number of casualties, personnel would be replenished from the reservists in the rear, restoring the corps’ numbers to one million. Only with so many immortals could they possibly withstand the opponent’s assault.
The rest was a slaughter. As the battlefield continuously claimed lives, the corps kept replenishing their forces, cycling through this process to stabilize the battle line, to avoid it being breached or collapsed, keeping all the members of the Demon Race outside the defense line.
The giant ship arrived at the First Corps’ station, and following the command, it landed in the open space and everyone lined up to enter the area designated for the Ninth Team.
The disciples of the Haoran Sect were guided to settle into their encampment, while Lin Chen, bringing Chi Ya with him, came to the headquarters of the Ninth Team.
As a subordinate returning to the unit, it was natural to report to his superiors, and then receive the next military orders—this was the rule.
Lin Chen, who had served as a soldier in the Human World for many years, was naturally familiar with this, so upon his arrival, he took the initiative to report, especially since his superior was Kong Wenlong, Chen Quan’s uncle!
In the military encampment, military law was observed. If he had casually arrived without reporting and showed contempt for the law, he would undoubtedly have that serious accusation pinned on him.
At the entrance of the headquarters, Lin Chen presented his token, announced his identity, and was quickly led inside with another person.
Chi Ya was the Law Enforcement Hall Master, and during wartime, she served as the deputy team leader in charge of military law, with a very clear understanding of military regulations, so Lin Chen brought her along to avoid any oversights.
Despite having served as a soldier and team leader for many years, those were matters of the Human World. Although the military laws and regulations of every place might be quite similar, there were definitely differences.
Inside the headquarters, the team leader of the Ninth Team, Kong Wenlong, was chatting with two smaller team leaders. When Lin Chen walked in, the three of them halted their conversation, and their gaze fell upon Lin Chen.
His eyes scanning the War God badges on the chests of the three men, Lin Chen confirmed the man in the middle was Kong Wenlong.
Lin Chen halted his steps, raised his hand to his chest, and saluted in the War God Mansion’s military style, declaring loudly, "Team leader of the Haoran Team in the First Corps’ Ninth Team, Lin Chen, leading a thousand members of the Haoran Team back to the unit, requests the team leader’s directive!"
Kong Wenlong, a middle-aged man, appeared somewhat gloomy between his brows. He sized up Lin Chen with a slightly surprised look in his eyes.
He was of course aware that Chen Quan had been publicly confronted by Lin Chen on the street, forced to step aside with a loss of face. He had also carefully understood the whole story behind the incident.
Despite the young age, disrupting the plans of the Demon Race, achieving great merit, commanding both the first and second military supplies as well as being confrontational on the city streets, with an attitude of defiance towards everyone as if he would challenge anyone including the Heavenly King, these incidents gave Kong Wenlong a first impression of Lin Chen as arrogant!
This kid, having earned great merit at a young age and relying on the personal appointment by the Hall Master, was extremely arrogant, not respecting anyone, not giving ’face’ to anybody. So arrogant, when he arrived at the Ninth Team, would he dare to confront even his superior?
Now that Lin Chen had just arrived at the main camp and reported dutifully, asking for orders without showing any arrogance, it caught him somewhat off guard.
The scenario he had previously imagined hadn’t happened at all, which meant that the lessons he had thought of issuing to make an example of someone were completely unnecessary.
The newcomer had received military orders, arrived on-time, and promptly reported asking for instructions upon arrival. All the operations were flawless, how could he find fault?
Did you say the report was spoken too softly, or too loudly, or neither too loud nor too soft?
Kong Wenlong nodded and said, "Lin Chen, right? It’s our first meeting."
Lin Chen replied cleanly and efficiently, "Yes, Team Leader!"
Kong Wenlong paused for two seconds, then inquired, "How is the Haoran Team doing?"
As the Sect Master, Lin Chen naturally had to understand his subordinates. Having done his homework, he answered without hesitation, "The Haoran Team has a total of 1,006 members returning, including twelve at the Daluo Beginning Immortal Level..."
Lin Chen, who had already memorized the data, rattled off a clean and efficient report, causing Kong Wenlong to raise his eyebrows.
Lin Chen had really put in the effort!
Every move he made and every word he spoke was very much up to standard. Although Kong Wenlong was eager to find fault, he couldn’t find any mistakes.
Kong Wenlong glanced at Chi Ya standing behind Lin Chen and thought to himself that this kid didn’t bring Deputy Sect Master Chen Wenlong, but brought Chi Ya, who was in charge of military law, as if guarding against him.
Kong Wenlong did not believe that Lin Chen was unaware of his relationship with Chen Quan, but of course, such things would not be openly discussed.
"Alright, I now understand."
Kong Wenlong responded calmly, then pointed to two people nearby, "This is Gao Ming, Team Leader of the First Team, and Chen Chong, Team Leader of the Fourth Team. As a new arrival, take the opportunity to familiarize yourself with everyone. It’ll be good to have some acquaintances when we’re on the battlefield."
Lin Chen nodded and greeted Gao Ming and Chen Chong, but he was not planning on engaging deeply with them.
In the military, one cannot only look out for oneself, but it was clear that these two team leaders, being able to sit leisurely beside Kong Wenlong chatting, were certainly his trusted core subordinates.
Seeing that Lin Chen was acting properly and without fault, Kong Wenlong extinguished the idea of giving him a hard time to show who’s boss for the day, and smiled, "Now that you have rejoined the ranks, we are under wartime management. Don’t run around randomly. If there’s anything about military regulations you don’t understand, you can ask Chi Ya."
Lin Chen nodded, "Yes, Team Leader!"
Kong Wenlong waved his hand, "You’re new here, go and get settled first. If there’s anything, you can always come to the command center to find me. If I’m not there, you can leave a message with my guard."
"Yes!"
Lin Chen gave a military salute and, with Chi Ya, left the command center.
Watching the door close, Gao Ming spoke with a laugh, "Wasn’t it said that this kid is troublesome? Why does he seem so well-behaved?"
Chen Chong chuckled, "I guess they must have done their research, knowing about the Team Leader’s relationship with Chen Quan, so they didn’t want to get caught by their short hairs—that’s why he’s acting so properly..."
A smile appeared on Chen Wenlong’s face, "It’s a bit different from what I’ve heard, but it doesn’t matter."
Gao Ming and Chen Chong exchanged glances, Gao Ming chuckled, "Team Leader, how about I go stir up some trouble with him, mess with him a bit?"
Chen Wenlong shook his head, "He’s a hero who has made great contributions. The Hall Master is said to be paying close attention to him. We should avoid using petty tricks, lest we invite criticism. The Immortal Demon Channel is open now, right? Later on, we’ll have them patrol it—legal and by the rules..."
