Chapter 2889: Chapter 2909: The Identity of a Meritorious Official, Still Somewhat Useful!
"Sect Master, what do we do next?"
Lin Chen had already planned his next move, and said with a laugh, "I will first pay a visit to the Hall Master."
"Yes!"
Chi Ya respectfully said, "Sect Master is not familiar with this place, let me lead the way for you."
Lin Chen smiled politely, "Thank you."
Lin Chen decided to first visit Shepherd Heavenly Monarch for a reason; having met him and known his attitude towards him, Lin Chen could better handle the forthcoming matters and decide on his approach.
Although Lin Chen was accompanied by a Quasi-Saint, this was the Crimson Immortal Domain, the forefront battlefield. There must be numerous Quasi-Saints around, and many people held real power. It wasn’t quite feasible to crash through unimpeded with Zhen Liuxue, but if Shepherd Heavenly Monarch backed him, then he truly could walk sideways here.
The residence of Shepherd Heavenly Monarch was called War God Pavilion, which served as his personal residence on normal days and transformed into a command center during wartime.
"Halt!"
As Lin Chen and Chi Ya just arrived outside the War God Pavilion, they were stopped by the guards.
Chi Ya folded his hands in respect and said, "Haoran Sect’s Sect Master Lin Chen and the Enforcement Hall Master Chi Ya request to see the Hall Master."
The guard frowned, scrutinizing the two, "Is the Hall Master summoning you?"
Chi Ya shook her head, "No."
The guard then asked, "Is there any emergency military information?"
Chi Ya looked slightly embarrassed, "None."
The guard coldly said, "Since the Hall Master did not summon you and there’s no urgent military matter, the Hall Master deals with myriad affairs every day, busy with official duties. You can’t just see him because you say so. If you insist on a meeting, you can go to the front office, state your purpose, and then wait. If the Hall Master agrees to see you, someone will notify you."
Chi Ya looked at Lin Chen hesitantly, waiting for his decision.
The guard was not making this difficult on purpose but was simply following protocol; otherwise, just managing the visitors for Shepherd Heavenly Monarch could form a long line, leaving no time to handle other matters.
Lin Chen smiled and said, "I have met the Hall Master once before; he taught me the Way of the Sword Talisman and told me to visit him at the War God Mansion once I arrived in the Crimson Immortal Domain. I am here today as promised, please pass along the message."
The guard looked at Lin Chen skeptically, "Aren’t you the Haoran Sect’s Sect Master?"
Lin Chen explained, "I just arrived in the Crimson Immortal Domain. I sought my family at Haoran Sect, only to learn that the Hall Master had personally appointed me as the Sect Master of Haoran Sect. I came today both to honor our previous appointment and due to this appointment."
"Personally appointed?"
The guard seemed to suddenly recall something, his eyes widening, "Are you the one who fought against the Demon Race in the Bitter Sea Immortal Domain and earned merits?"
Lin Chen nodded, "Yes."
The guard’s frosty expression instantly melted, and a warm smile appeared on his face, "Ah, it’s you then, Sect Master Lin. Definitely no issues with message passing, but you’ve come at an inconvenient time, the Hall Master is out on business, not here now!"
Lin Chen was slightly stunned, "When can the Hall Master return?"
The guard shook his head, "We’re just guards of the War God Pavilion, responsible only for its security; we don’t know the whereabouts of the Hall Master. We only know he has been gone for three days and hasn’t returned yet. As to where he went and when he will return, I’m not sure."
Lin Chen felt somewhat disappointed, "Alright, then. Sorry to disturb you."
The guard asked, "Sect Master Lin, where are you staying at the moment, at the reception station?"
Lin Chen nodded, "Yes."
The guard kindly said, "Why don’t you head back first, wait a little, and once the Hall Master returns, I will report this matter to him immediately. If the Hall Master summons you, someone will come to the reception station to find you; if not, I will also let you know the result."
Lin Chen expressed his gratitude, "Alright, thank you."
The guard replied with a laugh, "Don’t mention it, it’s my duty to do so."
You weren’t so eager to help just now; it seems that being identified as a "hero against the Demon Race" does have its perks.
Lin Chen thanked him again and then left with Chi Ya.
At the far end of the distant street, a disciple watched the scene from afar, scoffed twice, and then quickly disappeared into the crowd.
"Sect Master, what do we do now?"
Lin Chen said with a laugh, "The Hall Master isn’t here, let’s just wait."
After a pause, Lin Chen asked, "With the Immortal-Demon War about to start, there must have been many Quasi-Saints arriving to help. Do you know where these Quasi-Saints from other Immortal Domains are staying?"
Chi Ya, not knowing why Lin Chen was asking this, still rapidly answered, "They don’t reside in the city but live on White God Mountain."
Lin Chen asked curiously, "White God Mountain, where is that?"
Chi Ya explained, "These individuals are powerful and esteemed and usually prefer not to live in the bustling city. Therefore, the Hall Master had someone build Cave Mansions for them three hundred miles away at White God Mountain, offering a residence for those who prefer peace."
"Three hundred miles is not a great distance for these powerhouses; they can arrive in an instant if there is trouble on the battle line, so it won’t delay the war effort. When there is no battle, living on White God Mountain allows them to enjoy peace and not be disturbed..."
