Chapter 2249: Chapter 2269: Does this mean, it has to be you?_1
"This sword suppresses me, and I can’t leave. Can you try to move the sword and let me out?"
Lin Chen’s eyes widened in shock. "Senior, aren’t you overestimating me? With my strength, how could I even move this sword an inch?"
Chi Zai said, "Who asked you to move the sword? If you could move it, do you think it could still suppress me?"
Lin Chen asked in confusion, "Then what should I do?"
Chi Zai explained, "There’s a Sword Talisman left on this sword by that person. It’s what drives the sword. If you can break the Sword Talisman, without it to power the sword, I’ll be able to free myself from its suppression and escape."
Lin Chen’s expression turned slightly odd; the scenario seemed all too familiar.
A powerful being suppressed, with a talisman affixed to the object suppressing them. Just remove the talisman, and the suppressed would break free to regain their unfettered power.
"Where’s the Sword Talisman?"
"It’s on the blade of the sword."
Chi Zai replied, "Normally, the Sword Talisman doesn’t show, but it will appear whenever I struggle. It activates the sword to suppress me. Just watch me try to move, and you’ll see."
Lin Chen didn’t rush to act but continued to question, "If the sword’s owner is so powerful, how could I, a mere Fairy, possibly break his Sword Talisman? I probably wouldn’t even get close before the talisman might destroy me."
Chi Zai explained, "He only wanted to suppress me, not kill me; otherwise, he would have simply killed me from the start. Why bother with such effort? As for the Sword Talisman, as he said, anyone who can understand it can unlock it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t unlock it. Give it a try, see if you can do it."
Lin Chen nodded, yet he still didn’t move. "Senior, I can try to save you, but what’s in it for me? Plus, if I do manage to unlock the Sword Talisman and you really break free, what’s stopping you from smiting me with one slap as revenge? What would I do then?"
Chi Zai, growing impatient with Lin Chen’s prudence, said angrily, "I can slap you dead right now, believe it or not?"
"I believe."
Lin Chen responded with a smile, "But if you kill me now, then there’ll be no one to deal with the Sword Talisman. Of course, there are still three people above; they could even bring more, but whether they want to help you unlock the Sword Talisman or get rid of you is another issue."
Chi Zai was made to laugh by Lin Chen’s words, "You’re saying there’s no one but you?"
Lin Chen said with a laugh, "My luck has always been pretty good. Who’s to say for sure?"
Chi Zai snorted, "Tell me, what do you want?"
Lin Chen said righteously, "How about we make a contract? Don’t worry, it’s not a Master-Servant Contract. Let’s make a Friendship Contract—you can never harm me. Besides, if I’m going to save you, shouldn’t there be a reward for me?"
Chi Zai laughed out loud, "Make a Friendship Contract with me, you?"
Lin Chen said with a laugh, "You’re thinking I’m not worthy, right? Ah, Senior, you’re being superficial. Not mentioning that making friends is about sincerity, not status or strength, I’m just ensuring you won’t harm me under any circumstances. We’re very weak, and we were strangers until today. I want to take all the precautions, isn’t that reasonable?"
For a moment, Chi Zai lapsed into silence, uncertain whether he was enraged or simply flustered by Lin Chen’s words.
He had probably never been so blatantly threatened by a Fairy into making a Friendship Contract in his entire life, but today was an eye-opener.
"You may go! Call those people above to come here!"
Lin Chen’s expression remained unchanged as he turned to leave: "Alright, just wait. I’ll go call them now."
As Lin Chen leapt up, heading toward the surface, a tremendous sucking force suddenly enveloped the space around him, wrapping up Lin Chen within the Water-avoiding Bead, and in a swift motion, he was pulled back to the seabed.
"I can make a contract with you, but if you can’t break the Sword Talisman, wouldn’t I be at a loss?"
Lin Chen shouted loudly, "How can you say that’s a loss? What have I gained from you? Even if I can’t unlock the Sword Talisman, you’re still here being suppressed just like before, no difference really. You didn’t get any extra injuries, nor did you suffer more. If we’re talking about it, I’m the one who put in all the effort for nothing, ending up with neither credit nor compensation, so I’m the one who’s really at a loss, right?"
"Besides, even if I manage to pull you out, it’s not like I gain much. A Friendship Contract simply ensures we won’t harm each other; it doesn’t require you to do anything. So, I’m the one at a true disadvantage. How about you provide some advance payment, even if it’s just a little, as a deposit? Outside, when hiring someone to work, even if they don’t pay upfront, they still give some deposit."
Chi Zai was infuriated by Lin Chen, this kid was pushing his luck. Without even looking at the Sword Talisman or doing a day’s worth of work, he was asking for this and that, speaking so confidently and, worse, making sense.
And he couldn’t think of a rebuttal!
After taking a couple of breaths, Chi Zai finally said, "Name your price. I’ll tell you, as a Starry Sky Demon Beast, my body is my biggest asset and source of combat power, unlike you Human cultivators who like to collect all sorts of treasures..."
