Chapter 2076: Chapter 2096: The Murderous Tomb!_1
"What is this Dragon’s Roar, one of the three Sovereigns, doing with so many tombstones? Looking around, the whole valley is filled with graves. Could there be thousands of them?"
Hong Guilin’s confusion was shared by everyone, but no one could provide an answer.
"Shall we go down and see?"
"Let’s go!"
At this point, at least a hundred people had gathered in the valley, and it seemed like more were flocking in.
The crowd, evidently, was not from the same sect. Thus, there shouldn’t be any danger even if the five of them approached.
The five of them descended into the valley.
Lin Chen scanned his surroundings. Everything was gloomy and lifeless. No signs of vitality, only an ominous atmosphere.
The people in the valley were bustling with discussions, their faces displaying excitement tinged with trepidation.
"With so many tombstones, is there actually a real one?"
"Has anyone before set up their tomb like a death trap?"
"If each tomb kills one person, wouldn’t it take the deaths of thousands of immortals to open all these graves?"
"Whoever wants to die can try it. I don’t want to die."
"I won’t either; I’m just here to watch and stay silent!"
Just as Lin Chen and the others landed, they heard the crowd’s discussions. Not knowing the situation, they were taken aback.
Graves that kill people?
What’s going on?
Hong Guilin blinked, her eyes scanning left and right, and approached a rugged middle-aged man.
"Sir, what exactly is happening here? I heard people saying that graves can kill. What’s going on?"
The middle-aged man, who had been observing everything arms folded, turned his head and, seeing Hong Guilin, his eyes lit up. He explained, "They say that the Dragon’s Roar on the gravestones is one of the six top powerhouses of this world, nicknamed the Carefree Dragon Sovereign. Everyone guesses that Dragon’s Roar should be buried in one of these graves. A while ago, someone tried to destroy a grave to see what was inside. As a result, a bolt of lightning struck directly from the grave, and the person trying to vandalize the grave was turned into charred remains."
"Some people didn’t believe it and switched to another grave to try again. The result was the same. Now everyone dares not act recklessly. They’re just watching from the sidelines, while some disciples from the major sects have sent messages back, waiting for their sect’s experts to arrive. The rest, mainly from small sects or loose cultivators, are hiding and watching for opportunities to see if they can get a piece of the action."
Out of curiosity, Hong Guilin asked, "What was the strength of those who took action earlier?"
The burly man answered, "The first to die was a True Immortal, and the one who died later was a Golden Immortal. They both died too cleanly. Especially the latter, who had activated all his defense treasure before taking action, but the destructive power of that lightning was too great. It shattered all his defense treasure in an instant and struck him, killing him instantly."
Surprised, Hong Guilin asked, "Is it that powerful? Whoever tries to vandalize the grave gets struck?"
"Yes!"
The burly man pointed to the two ruined monumental graves in the distance, "The graves are solid and defended by an Array Formation, connected to the Heaven and Earth as one. Those with less strength can’t break the graves. But once the grave is opened, the Array Formation inside will unleash a bolt of lightning killing the intruder!"
Song Jun couldn’t help but interrupted, "So, is there anything inside?"
The burly man shook his head, "The grave contains an Array Formation that stores an incredibly powerful attack, but nothing else."
With a surprised look, Hong Guilin said, "Then what’s the purpose of these graves, to kill those who came to rob the graves?"
The burly man sneered, "Who knows? The Dragon’s Roar’s true body might be in one of these graves."
Instinctively replying, Hong Guilin said, "That’s just a possibility. What if it’s not there at all?"
The burly man chuckled, "That is also possible. Perhaps this was a trap, specifically for those who want to rob the graves. The Dragon’s Roar is a superpower. Who can know what he is thinking?"
After understanding the situation, Lin Chen and others huddled together and began to converse in hushed tones.
"There are at least five hundred graves. If each one kills a person, won’t five hundred people have to die to open all these graves? Moreover, there’s no guarantee that the real grave of the Dragon’s Roar is inside."
"What was Dragon’s Roar thinking, making such an effort to protect his tomb?"
"I don’t understand either. If he didn’t want his tomb to be disturbed after his death, he could simply find a random place to bury himself silently. Who would know it belonged to the Dragon’s Roar then?"
Lin Chen remained silent, but his mind drifted back to the emperors of the Human World.
These emperors constructed their own graves lavishly while they were still alive. These graves were filled with various strange death traps to prevent their tombs from being looted after death.
Some extravagant emperors even kept the location of their tombs secret. The sites were known to no one besides the emperors themselves. Once the tomb was finished, they would kill all the craftsmen involved in its construction.
In history, some have designed false graves for themselves in order to distract others and ensure the safety of their real graves.
Looking at these false graves in front of them, doesn’t it seem eerily familiar?
