Chapter 1344: Chapter 1364: I...I can’t say it out!_1
Lin Chen was stunned.
One of the conditions previously laid out by the Divine Sword Sect was to have their Sect Master be his master, making him a junior disciple to the Sect Master and a junior granduncle to the entire sect. Lin Chen was initially tempted by this offer, but now he had become the junior granduncle of the White Crane Immortal Sect’s Sect Master!
This was simply too preposterous!
The current highest ranked individuals in the White Crane Sect were the Elder Taishangs of the sect. They were the martial uncles and martial elders of the Sect Master. Their numbers were not many, and they generally did not get involved in the affairs of the sect, primarily choosing to practice in solitude or wander the world, their whereabouts uncertain.
Beneath the Elder Taishangs was the generation of Sect Master Meng Gongxin, which included all the Mountain Sect Leaders, Hall Masters, and elders of the sect. Zhou Ming, who had previously guided Lin Chen to the White Crane Immortal Sect, was one such elder.
Beneath the Sect Master, the first-generation disciples had all matured and now formed the backbone of the sect. Most of them had cultivation levels above the Human Immortal level. The second-generation disciples, on the other hand, were all below the Human Immortal level.
In addition to these, there were also a large number of Outer Sect Disciples. These disciples could only be said to be on standby for the White Crane Immortal Sect. Only when their cultivation reached the Golden Core Realm would they be admitted to the Inner Sect and officially become fourth-generation disciples of the Baiyun Immortal Sect.
The entire White Crane Immortal Sect now comprised four generations of disciples, and here was Lin Chen, only in his thirties, catapulting himself to the very first generation!
A group of old fellows, who knew how old they were, had to call Lin Chen their junior brother. The Sect Master and the elders had to call him their junior granduncle, while the first-generation disciples who formed the backbone of the sect had to address him as their ancestral master!
This status was utterly lofty!
Lin Chen was somewhat taken aback, and for a moment he did not know how to respond: "Sect Master Meng, there’s no need for such formalities, I’m just..."
Meng Gongxin gave a slight smile, "Junior Granduncle, you can just call me by my name."
Lin Chen felt rather awkward.
"Alright, alright..."
But he just couldn’t voice it out.
Su Shaoling, watching the amusing spectacle, burst into laughter, evidently enjoying the moment.
"Lin Chen, you’re now the junior granduncle of the White Crane Immortal Sect, and the inheritor of the Heavenly Sword. You’re going to have to carry on our banner. Don’t let down the reputation of our Heavenly Sword Peak."
Lin Chen solemnly bowed, "Yes, Master!"
Examining his surroundings, Su Shaoling chuckled, "Very good, you guys handle the rest. I’m leaving!"
Just as he finished talking, Su Shaoling lifted his hand, his finger, imbued with sword intent, went straight to his brow.
"Bang!"
Golden light exploded, and Su Shaoling’s primordial spirit avatar disintegrated instantly.
Lin Chen’s eyes widened in surprise. Had Su Shaoling self-terminated his primordial spirit avatar?
Su Wu seemed to have noticed Lin Chen’s confusion and explained in a low voice, "When the Master annihilates his primordial spirit avatar, his true body will sense it. The death of his avatar signifies the completion of the inheritance mission..."
Lin Chen suddenly understood.
Although the self-annihilation function also served as a communication tool, the sense of release and simplicity was genuinely breathtaking.
Could he not have just waited until his energy was depleted, leading to his natural dispersion?
That was damn ruthless.
After Su Shaoling brutally terminated his self, the awkward atmosphere on the scene escalated even further.
Surrounded by a throng of big shots, Lin Chen felt rather uneasy. He cautiously broached the subject, "Sect Master..."
Meng Gongxin interrupted with a smile, "Just call me by my name."
Feeling awkward, Lin Chen decided to be frank, "I’m quite young, and everyone here is my senior. I’m finding it hard to voice out, so how about we make a compromise..."
Lin Chen glanced at Su Wu beside him. The option he had proposed earlier, of making the Sect Master his master and becoming the junior disciple of the Sect Master, inheriting the Heavenly Sword Inheritance, wasn’t entirely unreasonable either.
Su Shaoling’s primordial spirit avatar was dead, and he himself would only know that someone had received the inheritance. He wouldn’t know the specific details. Even if he did, Lin Chen suspected that he wouldn’t care much. After all, he had been gone for thousands of years, and who knew where he was wandering about in the Immortal Domain.
By bringing up this idea, Lin Chen was essentially giving Meng Gongxin and the others an easy way out. If they were inherently strongly opposed to this, then they could just go along with it, and wasn’t the problem solved?
The Elder Taishangs probably wouldn’t mind, as they generally didn’t interfere with the affairs of the sect, and having an additional junior brother was not a big deal. However, the Sect Master, the elders, the Hall Masters, and the likes, who held real power within the sect, would anyone want to suddenly have a granduncle as young as him?
However, Meng Gongxin’s response was beyond Lin Chen’s expectations. He responded with a bow and a smile, "The matter has been decided by the Ancestral Master himself, it is a fact, it cannot be changed just because we say so. Junior Granduncle, you don’t have to feel awkward. Matters of seniority have never been about age."
"When the Ancestral Master dominated the world with a single swipe of his sword, no one in the White Crane Immortal Sect dared to provoke him. As of now, the sect is on the decline, and no one possesses the power that the Ancestral Master once had. Now that you, Junior Granduncle, have inherited the Heavenly Sword, you bear the responsibility of rejuvenating the reputation of our sect. We will naturally provide our full support. We will give it our all, so that the White Crane Immortal Sect can once again shine brightly!"
As Lin Chen’s gaze swept across the crowd, he was surprised to see not a hint of disdain or dissatisfaction. What he saw instead was excitement, trust, and anticipation.
A wave of warmth rose in Lin Chen’s heart. He knew that their trust in him was not based on how well he had performed. It was because he was the Successor chosen by Su Shaoling.
They trusted in Su Shaoling’s judgement!
They believed that he could become as powerful as Su Shaoling himself!
