Chapter 1271: Chapter 1291: There were choices before, now there is no other choice! _1

Bones were shrinking and muscles were adjusting. At a speed visible to the naked eye, Lin Chen morphed into a middle-aged man unfamiliar to him.

Checking himself in the mirror, Lin Chen gave a satisfied nod. Then, operating his Heart Method in silence, his presence quickly withdrew. The temperament of his entire being transformed into something extraordinarily ordinary in an instant, much like the cultivator one could find anywhere in the Wildlands.

Quite unremarkable.

In light of the current situation where the Mystical Immortal Island seemed to be actively hunting down gifted young cultivators, he chose to conceal his identity.

He didn’t want to be recognised, nor did he want to draw too much attention.

His only purposes were to infiltrate the island, find someone, seize an opportunity to save the person, and then escape from Mystical Immortal Island.

As for the loss of memory?

Lin Chen had no time to worry about it.

He used to have other options, but fate no longer allowed alternatives.

As long as the search was safe, if losing memory was inescapable, then let it be.

At least the memory of his life existed within Qiao Wei and Gu Yuexi. Thus, even if he lost his memory, he wouldn’t end up completely lost in the existential knot of "Who am I?" with no one to remember him.

Moreover, powerful figures like Qi and the Xuanji Fairy existed. Even if he met with mishap, the option to return his memories remained possible.

Launching himself through the sky, Lin Chen neared Mystical Immortal Island.

Soon, the island appeared before his eyes, a barrier stood in Lin Chen’s way.

A tranquil white light emanated from the barrier, evoking a peaceful sense of time standing still.

Mists cloaked the barrier, obscuring views of the island’s interior.

Lin Chen approached the barrier only to be thwarted by a gentle force, preventing him from getting any closer, let alone entering it.

Having made up his mind, Lin Chen didn’t hesitate. He took out the Bewildering Immortal Order, reaching out towards the barrier.

The tranquil Bewildering Immortal Order suddenly ignited like a beacon of pure white light, morphed into lines of white radiance, reached behind the barrier. But Lin Chen couldn’t discern what lay beyond it.

After what seemed like a few seconds, the white light on the Bewildering Immortal Order surged and enveloped Lin Chen. At the same time, he felt a pull, albeit not a particularly strong one.

Lin Chen was drawn towards the barrier. The barrier, which had been intangible moments ago, appeared to have turned ethereal. Lin Chen’s entire body darted directly into the barrier, penetrating it.

An expansive scene unfolded before Lin Chen.

He hovered mid-air, overlooking the landscape.

Ahead of him was a majestic mountain peak. Not that tall, but rather imposing. A stretch of houses, mostly wooden, lay at the foot of the mountain, reminiscent of a village hidden amidst the mountains

Flowers in all their assorted bloom surrounded the village, a spectacle as resplendent as a sea of flowers.

In addition to the flora, there was a peach forest, each tree brimming with peach blossoms.

The air was invigorating. Lin Chen took a couple of deep breaths and snapped back to reality in awe.

Immortal Spirit Qi!

This place was filled with a thick concentration of Immortal Spirit Qi!

Filled with drifting Immortal Qi, enveloped by white mist, and a flowerbed underfoot; every bit of this paradise carried an aura of peace and tranquillity.

All this signified the uniqueness of this place. Could an immortal really be dwelling here?

If it were an immortal, why would it not dwell in the Immortal Realm but secretly reside in the Wildlands?

If an immortal were present, why hadn’t anyone found this place during their ten-thousand-year quest to trace the immortal?

Lost in his doubts, Lin Chen was abruptly pulled towards the ground.

Glancing downwards, he saw that the light on the Bewildering Immortal Order was stretching towards an old stone tablet in the village down below.

Lin Chen was wrapped in the gleaming light of the Bewildering Immortal Order, and under the pull of the old stone tablet, he was rapidly flying towards it.

Behind him, the barrier that had momentarily ruffled like ripples was now back to its original state.

Instantly, Lin Chen fell from the sky and came to rest right in front of the stone tablet.

Written on this ancient tablet were two stylish characters dancing in an aura of Immortal energy.

Forget-worry.

His gaze sweeping across the village, Lin Chen looked puzzled. Where are the people?

The houses here didn’t seem neglected, and there were not many signs of abandonment. It should be inhabited, right?

Most importantly, where was Chu Jiaxue!

Lin Chen knew he wouldn’t spot Chu Jiaxue right off the bat. Yet, everything here, while seeming peaceful, conveyed a hint of desolation that made him feel somewhat uneasy.

"Squeak!"

The door of a small courtyard not far away squeaked open. An old man, draped in linen clothes and with the presence of an immortal, appeared at the doorway, smiling at Lin Chen.

"It’s been such a long time since we last had a visitor to Forget-worry Village."

Lin Chen turned and bowed, "Senior, I apologize if I have disturbed you with my abrupt visit."

The old man gestured, and the Bewildering Immortal Order, now slowly dimming, flew into his hand. He laughed and said, "Our village is usually very quiet, rarely visited, thus a bit of liveliness is always welcomed. Where is the offence in that?"

Lin Chen surveyed his surroundings and cautiously ventured, "It’s indeed very quiet here on the island. Does no one live here?"

The old man returned a slight smile, "Of course, there are inhabitants, just not many. Come, follow me."
