“Meimei, stay in the lab and help me prepare the formula.
I’ll go with the righteous members of the Holy Medicine Sect to find the alchemical components,” Qin Han said with a smile.
He had two reasons for not allowing Zhong Meimei to accompany him: one was that the component they were searching for, an inner core, was something completely unfamiliar to Zhong Meimei, and with such strong toxicity, it was highly likely that the serpent had not died yet.
A serpent capable of forming its inner core and causing an epidemic was surely no benign creature.
The second reason was that Qin Han’s attitude towards Zhong Meimei was handled the same way as it was with Lady Ji Chu, as far as Qin Han was concerned, his heart belonged solely to Song Yuwei.
Furthermore, once this incident was over, he wanted to give Song Yuwei a gift.
He still remembered Song Yuwei’s message: “Wait for your return…
then take me.”
Qin Han was not a man of frivolous affections, having no designs on the young lady, he did not want to give her any false hopes.
After Qin Han and the members of the Holy Medicine Sect left the third-floor lab, Luo Ming, seeing the downcast Zhong Meimei, came over to console her:
“Meimei, you’re a good girl, but Dr.
Qin is already married, and he loves his wife very much!”
Zhong Meimei looked up at Luo Ming, her cheeks blushing as she said, “Dr.
Luo, I know that, I…
I don’t have any other intentions.”
“I’ve been through it, how can I not see what’s on your mind?
But Meimei, people must aspire to something more realistic,” Luo Ming said earnestly.
“Dr.
Qin is a good man!”
Upon hearing these words, Zhong Meimei looked at Luo Ming again, and then understood the meaning behind his words.
Yes, if Dr.
Qin didn’t reject her, even if he gave her a hint, she believed she would not hesitate to offer everything to him, but he did not.
When Qin Han arrived at the riverbank, he saw Yimu the Taoist and Xue Yi standing by the river looking thoughtfully at the water’s surface.
Upon seeing Qin Han arrive, Xue Yi spoke up, “Sect…
Dr.
Qin, what brings you here?”
“I’ve found a way to eliminate the virus, but I’m missing one key ingredient!” Qin Han said calmly.
Upon hearing this, Yimu the Taoist responded, “Is it an inner core?”
“Exactly, I suspect that this flood was not a natural disaster at all; there must be a giant python here,” Qin Han said with deep concern.
“I guessed as much!” Yimu the Taoist declared.
Qin Han looked at Yimu the Taoist with a puzzled expression and asked, “Have you found it?”
“Not yet, but we’ve almost certainly pinpointed its location.
I estimate even if we don’t act, it won’t live much longer.” Then Yimu the Taoist pointed across the river.
Following Yimu the Taoist’s pointing finger, Qin Han looked out and saw under the water’s surface a serpent-like creature, around which wisps of black blood were diffusing.
Yimu the Taoist then pointed at the breached section of the riverbank and said faintly, “Dr.
Qin, look.
This part of the riverbank is actually very sturdy.
If it hadn’t been broken open from the inside by the creature, Jiang City would not have experienced this flood.”
“Let’s go over and take a look!” Qin Han said before pulling a handful of reeds from the cluster at the river’s edge.
With a flick of his right hand, a reed shot towards the river surface, and then Qin Han’s figure swiftly leaped up, landing steadily on the reed, while in midair, another one was already flying even further out onto the water.
Touching the first reed ever so lightly, he then soared toward the next, proceeding in this manner, Qin Han quickly reached the center of the river.
“Crossing the River with a Blade of Grass!” Yimu the Taoist exclaimed in surprise, thinking to himself, “I never would have thought that the Sect Leader’s martial prowess had further advanced after his rebirth!”
“It truly is Crossing the River with a Blade of Grass!” Xue Yi was also excited.
A member of the Holy Medicine Sect from the Tian character clan of the pharmacy department commented, “I had no idea Dr.
Qin’s martial arts mastery was so profound.”
“This Crossing the River with a Blade of Grass, even the previous Sect Leader failed to master, it’s unexpected that aside from his medical skills, his martial arts are also to such caliber!”
Someone from the pharmaceutical division of our Holy Medicine Sect interjected, “Alas, if our Sect Leader were here, would we even need others to resolve this crisis?
Where on earth has the Sect Leader gone?”
“Stop talking about this.
We are all seniors in the medicinal department.
To tell you the truth, it won’t be long before the Sect Leader returns,” Daoist Yimu said indifferently.
“Left Envoy, is what you’re saying true?”
Without answering the person’s question, Daoist Yimu leaped onto the speedboat that was docked by the riverbank.
The others hurriedly boarded the speedboat and swiftly headed towards the opposite bank.
When the group reached the other side of the river, Qin Han was squatting by the riverside, looking at a place where the water dropped and said, “Considering your diligent cultivation, leave behind your inner core to aid me in saving lives.
I will give you a Yin Yang Xuanlong Pill to heal your injuries, and I believe it won’t be long before you can continue your cultivation.”
Just as Qin Han finished speaking, unexpectedly, the calm riverside suddenly swelled as a giant serpent’s head emerged from the water, its black eyes staring menacingly at Qin Han.
“Though you have lost your inner core, it is still far better than losing your life.
Besides, in a hundred years or so, you can still cultivate a new inner core.”
“Now that your inner core has been tainted with resentment, it won’t be beneficial for your future cultivation!”
Qin Han was not at all concerned about the giant serpent staring at him as he spoke indifferently.
In his heart, however, he was somewhat surprised.
Originally thinking it was just a giant python defying the natural order to undergo cultivation, leading to divine thunder, he hadn’t expected not only a defiance of nature’s cultivation but that the python was actually transforming into a flood dragon!
No wonder such a fierce storm had been triggered!
The natural world has its own rules for survival.
What the Buddhist and Taoist teachings refer to as the Heavenly Dao is in fact a manifestation of the forces of nature.
Within the natural world, the established biological chains are rarely broken; to break through and ascend to a higher level of being, one must endure unforeseen ordeals.
In science, this phenomenon is generally termed genetic mutation.
And in some myths, these phenomena are described as cultivation, much like the ancient legend of carps leaping over the dragon gate.
Looking at the giant python before him, Qin Han estimated that it had been cultivating for at least a few hundred years.
The giant python held its position above the river’s surface, its face full of hostility as it watched the recently arrived members of the Holy Medicine Sect.
Seeing this, Qin Han could only say, “These are all my friends.
I know with your intelligence you can understand my words.”
“You should also be able to sense that I carry on the tradition of medical skills.
So let’s make an exchange, your inner core for your life!”
The giant serpent still did not move, and Qin Han, becoming somewhat impatient, said:
“I don’t have time to waste with you like this!
If it comes to a fight, you are surely going to die!”
After speaking, Qin Han unleashed his aura, and the calm waters of the river were immediately churned into ripples by the air waves emanating from his body.
Daoist Yimu, who was standing beside Qin Han, was shocked: “My goodness, what kind of strength does our Sect Leader possess?
Could it be that he has already touched the threshold of the Dao?”
The giant serpent in the river, feeling Qin Han’s aura, actually showed a hint of human-like expression on its face, looking at Qin Han in astonishment.
It had originally thought that by confronting the humans across it, they would be intimidated and retreat, since possessing an inner core or not makes a significant difference for its future recovery to the current state of being.
But now it seemed that this young man before it possessed the capability to slay it.
Had it not been injured, it might have had a chance to fight, but at present, there was definitely no opportunity.
The giant serpent slowly opened its mouth, and just as Xue Yi thought the serpent was about to attack, a black orb the size of a washbasin emerged from the serpent’s mouth, glistening with light and strikingly beautiful.
Just as Qin Han was about to reach out for it, a loud shout suddenly came from the riverside.
“Put the inner core down and step back!”
