Chapter 189 - 189 189 Sudden Change
189: Chapter 189 Sudden Change 189: Chapter 189 Sudden Change “Thank you!” the woman called Ya Rou said softly.
“No need!” Qin Han replied curtly and then ignored these people, focusing intently on the ancient forest across the mountain.
Qin Han frowned, thinking to himself, “The energy there seems different from other places.
Could there be some extraordinary treasure?”
“Hey, what are you looking at?” Ya Rou suddenly came over to Qin Han’s side and asked quietly.
Qin Han’s state of mind had long transcended the mundane, and at this moment, he harmonized with the mountain’s natural spirit.
In Ya Rou’s eyes, Qin Han, standing by the cliff’s edge, seemed to emanate an ethereal aura, making one irresistibly drawn to him, hardly seeming like a villain.
“Nothing.
Your friend is calling you,” Qin Han said indifferently without turning his head.
Just as Qin Han’s words fell, they heard the voice of the man from before: “Ya Rou, don’t stand near the edge of the cliff, it’s very dangerous.”
Ya Rou looked at Qin Han with some surprise; this man had known her friend was approaching without even turning to look, which was quite astonishing.
“Alright, I’ll come over,” Ya Rou responded.
After a moment’s thought, she stopped and said softly, “Would you like to join us?
It’s safer to have more people.”
“No need, I prefer being alone,” Qin Han said calmly.
Hearing Qin Han’s words, Ya Rou could only nod regretfully and turned to walk toward the man.
The man who had come to fetch Ya Rou looked at Qin Han with a threatening intent, as if warning him not to try anything untoward.
Qin Han, of course, did not bother with these trivial matters, especially since he had no interest in pleasantries.
His purpose for this journey was to find dragon’s blood.
Turning silently, Qin Han walked toward the deeper parts of the forest.
Just as he stepped into the forest, a scream came from behind him.
Among the men and women, the woman who had been called Ya Rou was now sitting on the ground, flapping her arms and legs about, and continuously scooting backward, toward a cliff not far from her.
Qin Han fixed his gaze and realized that in front of her was a red-headed poisonous snake chasing Ya Rou, about to bite her delicate feet.
No wonder she was moving backward, and toward the direction of the cliff—clearly, Ya Rou was panic-stricken and unaware of the situation behind her, simply focused on dodging the snake.
Just as Ya Rou neared the edge of the cliff, the people around her were shouting, “Ya Rou, don’t back up, there’s a cliff behind you!”
But Ya Rou could not listen now, her eyes only on the oddly shaped poisonous snake chasing her.
In that split second, Qin Han sprang into action!
As a doctor, Qin Han would never stand by and watch someone die.
With a quick movement, Qin Han dashed toward Ya Rou, and mid-air, he flung a silver needle.
“Hiss!”
His silver needle accurately pierced the snake’s vital area, pinning it firmly to the ground.
The snake writhed continuously, coiling into a ball of flesh and forming a grotesque sight.
Although Ya Rou no longer faced the threat of the snake, her footing gave way, and her body leaned backward, heading directly toward the cliff below.
In midair, Qin Han had to exert force again, moving swiftly as if a startled swan.
As she was falling with a scream, Ya Rou suddenly felt a hand at her waist, and her body stopped falling.
Looking up, she realized Qin Han was holding her waist with one hand and grasping a vine on the cliff with the other.
Ya Rou glanced down at the abyss below her, where everything was shrouded in pitch darkness, seemingly the entrance to hell, causing her to hastily grab onto Qin Han’s arm and close her eyes, daring not to look down any longer.
“Don’t look down!” Qin Han said.
With that, he exerted force with his left hand, his feet repeatedly kicking against the cliff face, and in just a few breaths, he had swiftly ascended the cliff.
Only when the two had landed did Ya Rou open her eyes.
Having just experienced a life-and-death moment, her heart was still pounding violently, and she was breathing heavily, her chest heaving, stirring imaginations.
“Ya Rou, are you alright?” The others who were with the woman finally snapped out of it and, seeing Ya Rou safe in Qin Han’s arms, hurriedly ran over to ask.
Ya Rou regained her composure and shook her head, saying, “I’m fine.”
Then, she looked up at Qin Han, feeling an unusual emotion stirring within her—a man who had live life plainly had just risked his life to save her by jumping off a cliff, and she gratefully said, “Thank you!”
“It was nothing!” Qin Han responded indifferently, then adjusted his backpack, ready to leave.
“You scared me to death, Ya Rou.
Are you hurt anywhere?” the previously cautious man also stepped forward, grabbing Ya Rou’s arm with a concerned expression and asked.
Without leaving a trace, Ya Rou pulled her arm back, responding coldly, “I’m fine.”
Seeing Ya Rou’s markedly different attitude towards him compared to Qin Han made the man even more displeased with Qin Han.
This was a classic hero saving the beauty, and yet this bumpkin had taken advantage of the situation.
It’s human nature; he wouldn’t admit he lacked the courage to outdo another, instead blaming Qin Han for not giving him a chance to win the girl’s favor.
“It’s going to be dark soon.
If you don’t leave now, you won’t be able to make it out,” Qin Han said, glancing at the man, his tone light.
The man’s expression lay fully within Qin Han’s view.
It was clear that the man was interested in the woman called Ya Rou but Qin Han paid it no mind.
They were but strangers who met by chance and would likely never meet again after this.
Besides, Qin Han had no interest in any woman other than Song Yuwei.
Not even for a beauty as striking as Ji Chu Fei did Qin Han spare an extra glance, let alone for Ya Rou before him.
As if to prove Qin Han’s words, a faint miasma had begun to form on the forest ground, suggesting that in no time when the sky would completely darken, the miasma would envelop the primitive forest.
“Hey, what’s your name?” the woman called Ya Rou called out to Qin Han, who was about to leave.
Qin Han didn’t stop but merely said, “We are strangers who met by chance.
There’s no need to know each other’s names.”
“Aren’t you coming with us?” she asked.
“I need to gather some herbs.”
“We can come with you and help!” Ya Rou insisted.
“There’s no need.
It’s not convenient with you along.”
As Qin Han approached the edge of the forest, he glanced at the miasma inside and frowned but chose not to venture deeper, instead beginning to search the vicinity.
Life in nature is defined by mutual checks and balances; nothing stands at the top of the food chain alone, and mutual restraint is what allows all species to coexist on this planet.
Soon, Qin Han found a plant and, after plucking a few leaves from it, put them into his backpack.
Handing the leaves to the woman, Qin Han said calmly, “Keep these leaves in your mouth; they will protect you from the miasma, long enough for you to return to the scenic area.”
Having said this, Qin Han turned and walked into the forest.
Just then, a skeptical voice rang out, “You speak as if it’s true.
Who do you think you are, Divine Doctor?”
