Chapter 617: Chapter 617: Hero Saves the Beauty

"Professor Fang?"

A female student, upon seeing Fang Bai suddenly appear by the lake, as if she had seen a savior, wiped away her tears, grabbed Fang Bai’s arm, and sobbed, "Professor Fang, please save Xie Min! After her boyfriend dumped her yesterday, she kept saying she didn’t want to live anymore. We took her out to distract her, but when we got to the lake, she... she suddenly jumped in..."

Fang Bai had a photographic memory. He glanced at the girl and knew she was a student of traditional Chinese medicine who had attended his lecture that morning, hence she recognized him.

Fang Bai nodded, ready to use his movement technique to save her when suddenly a figure, like the wind, whizzed by him and, with a "plop," jumped into the lake.

The person who jumped into the lake was Xiong Yingxiong.

Intent on saving the girl, Xiong Yingxiong rushed to the lakeside, quickly shed his coat without hesitation, and leaped in.

Fang Bai appreciated his disciple’s heroic conduct. Seeing him dive into the lake, and knowing the girl in the water would not be in immediate danger, he remained standing.

Though it was early spring, the lake water was still icy cold. As Xiong Yingxiong plunged in, his body shivered from the cold shock. He let out a loud roar, struggling furiously through the water, swimming towards the flailing girl.

Growing up on the southern coast, Xiong Yingxiong was an excellent swimmer. He quickly reached the girl, cradled her body with both hands, and gradually brought her to shore.

When the girl was pulled to shore, her face was as pale as paper, and she had passed out, but fortunately, Xiong Yingxiong and the others, being medical students, knew some first aid. After pressing on her chest and administering artificial respiration amidst chaos, the girl finally came to her senses.

"Hero, take this classmate to the school’s medical office for a check-up! I’ll be taking my leave now."

During the rescue, Fang Bai had received a call from Qin Yaorao. After a brief chat, he nodded to Xiong Yingxiong and then floated away.

Fang Bai had already taught Xiong Yingxiong quite a bit today, enough for him to digest for a long time. He would just give him some more advice when he had time.

Watching Fang Bai walk away, Xiong Yingxiong looked down at the girl who had just been revived, lying on the ground. Seeing her pretty appearance and the sadness, despair, and confusion filling her big eyes, he felt a sense of empathy, knowing she was distressed from a breakup.

"I was also dumped not long ago, so I understand how you’re feeling now..."

Xiong Yingxiong kept his eyes on the girl, sighed deeply, then cracked a smile and loudly said, "But no matter how sad or painful it is, I wouldn’t seek death, because not only is that cowardly, it would also bring a lifetime of pain to your parents, your loved ones! If I were you, I’d pick myself up. Not only would I live on, but I would also live better and more brilliantly than before, showing the person who dumped you how wrong they were."

After hearing Xiong Yingxiong’s words, the girl’s dull eyes finally showed some spark of life. She looked at Xiong Yingxiong, blinked, and asked, "Was it... you who saved me?"

"Mhm!"

Xiong Yingxiong nodded vigorously.

"Thank you..."

Tears slowly trickled down from the girl’s eyes as she murmured, "You’re right, if I died, that man would be even happier... My parents... would be heartbroken... I need to live well... for myself..."

"That’s right!"

Xiong Yingxiong smiled and said, "Can you walk? I’ll take you to the school medical office."

"I feel so weak all over..."

The girl struggled to stand up but was not successful.

"Xie Min, let us help you up!"

A few male and female friends of the girl surged forward, trying to help her to her feet.

"The infirmary is not close by, and her body is too weak... let me do it!"

Xiong Yingxiong said, bending down to scoop the girl up in a princess carry and then striding towards the infirmary.

The friends of the girl exchanged glances before following.

......

In the northwest corner of Yanjing Medical University, several three- to four-story buildings stood, showing signs of age from the outside.

These buildings were specifically provided for non-local teaching and administrative staff to live in, among them was a set of quarters belonging to Qin Yaorao.

The Qin Family from Jinling also belonged to the Prominent Clans of Huaxia and owned numerous properties in Yanjing. However, for convenience, Qin Yaorao chose to live on campus.

Qin Yaorao had attended both of Fang Bai’s classes that morning, even though she was not trained in medicine and had virtually no knowledge of it. Still, judging from the reactions of the students there, she knew that Fang Bai’s lectures had been an overwhelming success. He had managed to significantly stir up the students’ enthusiasm and active engagement in studying traditional Chinese medicine, also establishing his authority among them, something that the previous professors sternly failed to do.

After the morning classes, Fang Bai assigned the students a task: to each prepare a large, accurately annotated map of the human body’s meridians and points. The goal was for them to thoroughly memorize and internalize these meridian points.

After class, Qin Yaorao also procured a chart of the human meridian acupoints and affixed it to the wall of her room, planning to study it carefully whenever she found time.

Because of Fang Bai, Qin Yaorao had developed a liking for traditional Chinese medicine and was determined to study it seriously.

Fang Bai had previously promised to teach her martial arts and medicine. Just after the classes had ended, they had agreed that Fang Bai would come to teach her in the afternoon.

As the time approached one o’clock in the afternoon and Fang Bai hadn’t shown up, Qin Yaorao became a bit anxious. So she called Fang Bai and was secretly delighted to hear that he was still on campus. She tidied up her already clean room once more before turning on the TV, and watched it idly while waiting for Fang Bai’s arrival.

When Fang Bai arrived at the base of the building where Qin Yaorao lived, he unexpectedly encountered Wang Xinglin.

Previously, Wang Xinglin had provoked Fang Bai, attempting to embarrass him in front of several university presidents and professors. However, the result was Fang Bai diagnosing kidney issues and a lack of virility in Wang Xinglin, turning him into a laughingstock among the teaching staff. This left Wang Xinglin deeply humiliated and bearing a grudge against Fang Bai.

As the two now crossed paths, Wang Xinglin glanced at Fang Bai, snorted coldly with a displeased expression, and walked past, head held high.

Fang Bai couldn’t be bothered to deal with the fellow, and with a smile on his lips, simply walked past him.

"Could this kid be going to see Qin Yaorao?"

Turning his head to watch Fang Bai enter the building where Qin Yaorao lived, Wang Xinglin’s gaze flickered, a hint of envy flashing in his eyes.

Although Wang Xinglin was a professor, his character was questionable, with problematic personal conduct, murky relationships with some female teachers and students; he was privately referred to as "Monster Wang" by some faculty and students.

If not for the mighty shelter of the Wang Family, it’s possible that Professor Wang Xinglin would have long since lost his position, and he might even have been expelled from the ranks of Yanjing Medical University’s staff.
