Chapter 291: Chapter 291: An Ordinary Day

Lin Dong held Qiao Bing’s hand and walked a long distance away.

At the moment, Qiao Bing’s mind was in turmoil.

Because of her strange disease, no man had ever held her hand in this world.

And Lin Dong was the first one.

There wasn’t the liver pain she had imagined.

What she felt was a warm sensation, which traveled from the palm of his hand to hers.

Her body quivered involuntarily, and her heartbeat quickened without her control.

So this was what holding hands felt like?

"Where are you taking me?"

After walking for quite some time, Qiao Bing found herself becoming more and more nervous, fearing her legs would give out if she went on.

Thus, she asked.

"I’ve seen that you haven’t been eating well these past few days, so I’m taking you out for a meal," Lin Dong said.

"Oh." Qiao Bing nodded gently and followed Lin Dong out.

She had no idea where Lin Dong planned to take her to eat.

But that wasn’t important. What mattered wasn’t the meal or where to eat. What mattered was who she was eating with.

Southern Capital Hospital provided dormitories for visiting doctors of Qiao Bing’s level.

Lately, Qiao Bing had been staying in the hospital dormitory.

The dormitory was a small apartment with one bedroom, one living room, and one kitchen, with a rather nice environment. Lin Dong had also visited once before.

This time, he brought her straight to the dormitory.

Seeing this, Qiao Bing curiously asked, "Didn’t you say we were going to eat out?"

"Right, we’re going to cook ourselves," Lin Dong replied.

Qiao Bing’s cheeks turned slightly red—she had never cooked before.

When she was at home in Jianghai, her mother, Chu Yunxiu, did the cooking.

When she went away to university, she ate at the cafeteria.

Even after starting work, while at the hospital, she ordered take-out.

From childhood to adulthood, she had barely ever cooked.

"Maybe... we should still go out to eat?" Qiao Bing said shyly.

Lin Dong laughingly said, "I’ll cook."

"You know how to cook?" Qiao Bing asked curiously.

"Yes," Lin Dong nodded, recounting that from childhood, he lived with his mother, who wasn’t very healthy.

Lin Dong was sensible and responsible from a young age, doing whatever chores he could.

By the age of six or seven, he had already started learning how to cook.

After his mother passed away, it went without saying that he had to cook for himself.

Even during those three years of cultivation with Daoist Qing Shan in the Taoist temple, it was Lin Dong who cooked— as for the old man, he practiced food abstinence and didn’t need to eat at all.

Of course, even the old man on food abstinence wouldn’t refuse to eat if Lin Dong cooked something tasty.

Thinking back on the past, Lin Dong shook his head.

Qiao Bing said nothing, just nodding.

Upon opening the door, they found it quiet inside, with the kitchen seeming untouched since Qiao Bing moved in.

However, Lin Dong checked and saw that gas was available and there were pots nearby.

But when he opened the refrigerator, aside from some fruit, there was nothing else.

Qiao Bing felt awkward, "I... I haven’t shopped for groceries before. So there’s nothing in the fridge."

Lin Dong laughingly said, "It’s okay, let’s go buy some at the hospital supermarket now."

"Mhm," Qiao Bing nodded.

The two went out like the most ordinary husband and wife, leaving their home to shop for groceries.

But in reality, this was Qiao Bing’s first time grocery shopping.

She had always been focused on work and had never been to a produce market. Even when she went to supermarkets, she never ventured into the meat and vegetable sections.

"Boss, how much is the chicken? Thirty-one per pound? That’s expensive, can you make it cheaper?"

"Could you throw in some green onions?"

Watching Lin Dong skillfully haggle while shopping, Qiao Bing felt like laughing.

She knew how affluent Lin Dong was now; even buying out the entire supermarket would be effortless for him.

Yet as she laughed, a pang of heartache washed over her face.

She thought, if it weren’t for his poor childhood making him used to it, why would he be bargaining over groceries like this?

Suddenly, she found herself wanting to know everything about him, including his past.

After finishing their grocery shopping, Qiao Bing noticed that Lin Dong had bought chicken, fish, eggplant—all things she liked to eat!

She was somewhat lost in thought.

A warmth rose in her heart,

Like a spring breeze brushing across her mind.

Soon, they were finished shopping.

She too carried a small bag as they quietly walked back to the dormitory side by side.

Along the way, they didn’t talk much.

But even the silence between them on that road, along with the noise and hustle of others, made Qiao Bing feel refreshed at that moment.

It turns out that when one’s mood is truly good, even the ordinarily annoying din can seem endearing.

Quickly, they returned to the dormitory.

After closing the door, Lin Dong entered the kitchen with the ingredients.

Qiao Bing offered, "I’ll help you with the vegetables."

"Okay," Lin Dong nodded.

Working together, it didn’t take long before the meal was ready.

There weren’t many dishes, just a few home-cooked ones!

But it was enough for the two of them.

All of a sudden, Qiao Bing felt a great appetite. She picked up a piece of chicken and took a bite.

Lin Dong asked, "How is it?"

"The best thing I’ve ever eaten..." Qiao Bing’s eyes teared up as she spoke.

"Is it that exaggerated?" Lin Dong also took a bite and mumbled.

It seemed no different than usual, and probably couldn’t compare with what a restaurant chef could do.

Qiao Bing nodded vehemently, "It’s just, the vegetables don’t look very nice. I didn’t do a good job cleaning them."

Lin Dong couldn’t help but smile, "As long as it tastes good."

He then picked up a piece and offered it to Qiao Bing’s lips.

Qiao Bing was taken aback, her face flushed red.

After a moment’s hesitation, she opened her mouth and ate it.

They finished the meal, and Lin Dong busied himself with cleaning up.

Qiao Bing also came over to help.

The two washed up the pots and pans together.

After the dishes were done,

Lin Dong looked around the quiet room and the empty balcony, suggesting,

"Next to the living room sofa, if a small bookshelf with some books were added, you could pick up a book to read while lying on the sofa during rest times."

"On the balcony, you could grow some green plants and flowers, watering them in the morning, which would make your whole day feel better..."

Lin Dong mentioned some small matters.

Qiao Bing listened quietly, nodding slightly.

Soon, evening fell, and before they knew it, today was almost over.

Today, they hadn’t done much.

After returning, it was all about cooking, eating, and casual chatting, engaging in the most ordinary daily life.

Yet, Qiao Bing found that she would probably find it hard to forget this utterly ordinary day in the future.

Because she really, really liked days like today...

There was a breeze outside the window, gently reminding people to love this world even more.

In that gentle wind, she made a wish:

Wishing to spend a lifetime with him, watching the hustle and bustle of the world together.
