Chapter 478: Chapter 473: You’re the Monkey (Five More)

"I’m serious. With someone as delicate as you running a big company, once you go there, I’m afraid you’ll run back here."

"Don’t worry, I can swallow the same food you do. Don’t underestimate me, okay?" Nangong Bing said with her head held high.

"You’re really going?" Lin Zifeng repeated.

After all, the environment at the food stall was nowhere near as good as the hotels she usually frequented. There was almost every type of person at the food stalls, especially a lot of hooligans.

"Stop dithering. I want to see if this food stall you’re talking about is as terrifying as you say. It’s just a meal, right? It can’t be as scary as you make it out to be. If you guys can eat there, I, Nangong Bing, can eat there too."

"Hey, anyone can talk big. Boasting doesn’t cost a thing." Lin Zifeng said with a shrug, indifferent.

"You—" she was just about to explode in anger, but took several deep breaths and managed to quell the rising fury.

She thought to herself: You just want to provoke me, right? Fine, I, Nangong Bing, will show you today whether I’m all talk or not.

Nangong Bing didn’t speak out loud, but she was doubting herself internally. However, with her arrogant nature, she still wanted to give it a try. She wanted to see just how terrifying the food stall Lin Zifeng mentioned could be.

"Do you know the way?"

"I do."

"You lead the way; I’ll drive."

"Oh." Lin Zifeng nodded.

...

It was only about fifteen minutes later that a luxuriously extreme Lamborghini drove from the direction of the city area to a slightly secluded lane. After about another fifteen minutes, the scenery they encountered was completely different from that in the city area.

This was a rather famous ancient town in the East District of Zhonghai City, known for its long history. Many tourists came to visit every year, but often left disappointed.

Not for any other reason but because the sight was somewhat frightening.

The stalls of vendors of all shapes and sizes lined both sides of the road, chaotically arranged like pieces on a chessboard.

At the end of the road was a clear stream, with red lanterns dotting both banks. Although these red ancient houses on the bank of the stream were modern constructions, they did not lack an ancient charm.

At this moment, the whole road was bustling with activity, leading to the banks of the stream, where various stalls were set up.

Lin Zifeng did not let Nangong Bing drive further in but instead found a more secluded spot to park the car.

After all, this place was not very peaceful, and with Nangong Bing’s status, combined with such a world-renowned brand of sports car, it would attract far too many disdainful stares.

"Is this the place you mentioned?"

Sitting in the car, Nangong Bing didn’t immediately get out. Instead, she pointed at the stream at the end of the road and asked.

"How about it, does it not meet your high standards, ma’am?" Lin Zifeng said with a smile.

"Don’t look down on me." Almost as soon as Lin Zifeng got out of the car, Nangong Bing stepped out too.

However, as soon as her pair of noble, flashy black high heels stepped out of the car, her eyebrows involuntarily twitched.

Because right near their car was a big pile of poop!

For Nangong Bing, this was practically a storm, almost causing her to freak out.

Had it not been to avoid Lin Zifeng bursting into laughter, Nangong Bing would have almost forced herself not to scream.

"Let’s go," Lin Zifeng said.

At that time, Nangong Bing wore a white dress, a simple OL (Office Lady) outfit with classical flair. Her legs looked as sleek as those of a Spiritual Python under the classical long skirt, exuding a particular charm.

It was indeed rare for such a beautiful woman to appear in this kind of place, even though the town saw various beauties every day. Yet, there weren’t many who could reach the level of Nangong Bing’s temperament.

Looking at the several hundred meters long road ahead, Nangong Bing swallowed hard. Now that she had already come out,

turning back would indeed hurt her pride too much.

In the end, she could only grit her teeth and move step by step towards the end of the road.

It wasn’t until she saw the stream at the end of the road that Nangong Bing truly realized that what seemed like an inconspicuous road’s end actually hid such a beautiful place. This realization brought her some joy and swept away the gloominess she felt earlier.

"How is it? Not bad, right?" Lin Zifeng laughed. Actually, the reason he chose to eat here was that this ancient town had a significant impact on him.

Hidden in the East District of Zhonghai City in an unremarkable geographical location, the cost of living here was quite low, and many things were super cheap.

When he was younger, his family was poor, so his parents often brought young Lin Zifeng here to enjoy a hearty dinner.

Every holiday, Lin Zifeng would eagerly pull at his mother’s arm, begging to eat in the town. Each visit became a habit for him.

That was until five years ago, after his dream shattered, and he never visited the town again.

"Are you okay? Anything wrong?"

Seeing Lin Zifeng standing on the bridge over the stream, staring blankly towards the town, Nangong Bing asked.

"I’m fine."

With a nudge from Nangong Bing, Lin Zifeng immediately snapped out of his reverie.

"What were you thinking just now? I noticed your eyes seemed a bit sad," Nangong Bing asked with her lips pursed, her beautiful eyes filled with curiosity.

"No, just missing my parents," Lin Zifeng said softly, but from his firm face, it was apparent there was a profound sadness in his words that he could not conceal.

"Your parents? What about them?"

Since getting to know Lin Zifeng, to be honest, Nangong Bing had never really asked about his parents, nor had they had such a close and friendly chat as they were having today.

But now, hearing him mention his parents and seeing his pained expression,

Nangong Bing seemed to have a vague idea of what might be the matter.

"They’ve gone missing," Lin Zifeng replied without lying, as his parents had been missing for five years now, and that was a fact.

"Gone missing? How could that happen?" Nangong Bing showed a look of surprise.

"That happened five years ago, I don’t want to talk about it. Let’s go, we should find a place to eat first," Lin Zifeng said as he touched his nose, reluctant to discuss his parents.

"Oh," Since he didn’t want to talk about it, Nangong Bing didn’t press the issue further.

...

"Boss, do you have any free tables?"

Accompanied by Nangong Bing, the frigid Queen of Tianyu, Lin Zifeng brought her to the front of a popular street food stall.

It was precisely nine-thirty in the summer evening, which was typically the busiest time for business.

Seeing that the food stall was surrounded by fully occupied tables and a daunting number of diners, Lin Zifeng really feared there would be no free tables left.

After all, he had grown accustomed to eating at this food stall five years ago.

"Come on in, there’s still a free table. Please take a seat, I’ll bring you the menu shortly."

"Boss, what do you think about this place, the ambiance and all? Does it suit your taste?"

"So-so."

With just a brief glance, Nangong Bing observed the rowdy, muscular men shouting and drinking at a nearby table, their bare torsos covered in tattoos of snakes, insects, tigers, ants, and the like. She felt her own fair arms and rubbed them twice.

In her own way, she was speaking the truth by saying "so-so," which was quite good for Lin Zifeng. He just hoped Nangong Bing wouldn’t call this place terrible, or they’d really be without a meal for the evening.

"Come on, take a seat, or do you actually want everyone here to gawk at you as if you were a monkey in a zoo?"

As gazes from all around began to converge on them, Nangong Bing’s face grew cold: "You’re the monkey."

"Err, heh heh, I was just making an analogy, there’s no need for that kind of retaliatory insult."

"You can’t call me a monkey in your analogy, that sounds so awful," Nangong Bing gave him a sidelong glance with her pretty eyes.

"So, should I apologize to you then?" asked Lin Zifeng with a grin on his face.

"That won’t be necessary."

"Then Boss, please have a seat. I’ll go order the food. Just tell me what you’d like to eat, the food here is top-notch on this street."

"Whatever is fine, as long as it’s not too bad," Nangong Bing nodded.

"Got it." After saying that, Lin Zifeng quickly wiped down a small stool for Nangong Bing, and as he was leaving, he dropped a line: "A woman shouldn’t sit anywhere carelessly, you might catch a cold."

A statement that should have sounded common, yet under his sleazy expression, it took on an ambiguous tone.

"Lin, are you asking for trouble?!"

"No, no, absolutely not. I’ll go order now, just sit tight here," Lin Zifeng quickly said and hurried off toward the inside of the food stall.

As Lin Zifeng left, Nangong Bing slowly seated herself. It wasn’t half a minute before three brawny, bald men approached her, all bare-chested, with their shirts draped over their shoulders, a cigarette hanging from their lips, and blowing smoke in Nangong Bing’s direction.

Nangong Bing, who was playing with her phone and about to post on Weibo for fun, was suddenly choked by the smoke.

"Beautiful lady, are you alone? May we join your table?" asked one brawny man with a buzz cut, smiling.

"Sorry, but this table is already taken. There’s no room left," Nangong Bing replied with a look of disdain in her cool eyes.

"Taken? By whom? Where? I don’t see anyone," the bald man said playfully, but with a mocking tone.

"Look, beauty, the food stall is packed and we can’t find a good table anywhere. How about we share a table? You can order whatever you want and it’s all on me."

"No need," Nangong Bing’s pretty face grew a bit colder. She despised these kinds of baseless advances from men, obviously ulterior in motive yet pretending to be benevolent.

If it were another woman, maybe she would take advantage of the situation and let these guys sit down, but Nangong Bing was not like that.

Dislike was dislike, disgust was disgust.

Nothing could be more clear-cut than her expression.

"Look here, beautiful, this food stall isn’t owned by your family, plus you haven’t even ordered yet. We should have the right to sit at this table," the bald man complained, becoming annoyed at Nangong Bing’s refusal.

If playing nice wasn’t working, it was time to play rough.

It seemed these guys were looking to cause trouble.

"This table was reserved by me first, why are you being so unreasonable?" Nangong Bing was so frustrated that her chest began to rise and fall.
