Chapter 428: Chapter 423: The Five-Cent Popsicle
"Sir, wouldn’t you like to look around a bit more?" the man in the suit quickly approached with a smile, significantly lowering his posture.
"No need, I’ll come back another day for a browse," Lin Zifeng replied politely.
"Of course, of course. I hope you can visit us often when you have time," the man in the suit said, nodding and bowing.
However, as Lin Zifeng was leaving, he turned his head and his gaze lingered on the female sales associate for a few seconds.
He then quickly disappeared with Li Lin into the LV store.
That small gesture from Lin Zifeng when he looked back was immediately caught by the man in the suit.
Seeing that Lin Zifeng had left, the man in the suit’s previously smiling face suddenly darkened.
His spine straightened considerably, adopting an arrogant attitude.
He walked over to the sales associate’s counter.
The man in the suit hadn’t even begun to speak.
But the sales associate, with a mocking face, said, "What a joke, two big paupers. You don’t have money and still want to browse the LV store, thinking it’s just a common little bag shop? Asking me for the latest model of the year, I’m afraid of dirtying our products."
Seeing the man in the suit’s face grow darker.
The woman fawningly said, "Manager Wang, I have some good tea leaves that friends have sent me, would you like to take some to taste?"
After hearing the sales associate’s recent complaints, the man in the suit was on the verge of jumping up and cursing.
"Taste my sister! Taste my sister! Are you brain-dead? Can’t you understand anything other than the letters ’S’ and ’B’?"
"Manager Wang, how can you say such things about me!" the sales associate said, taken aback.
"Say things about you? I don’t even have time to curse you right now. Do you know who those two young people just were? Didn’t you take a good look at their identities?"
Manager Wang was so angry that he blew his beard and stared; this saleswoman had single-handedly ruined a good business opportunity.
"Aren’t they just average people coming to our store for the cool air?" The sales associate was stunned, not understanding what her manager meant by this.
"Cool air, my sister! Have you ever seen a Black Jade bracelet worth millions, even tens of millions on someone’s wrist? Why do you only use your mouth to ask, and not your brain? Are you blind?"
"Those two poor students?"
The sales associate was completely frightened by her manager’s words.
From any perspective, that young man and woman earlier could, at most, be ordinary college students.
Would children from wealthy families wear clothes resembling street stall goods? Would these children look at LV bags with a trace of fear in their eyes?
The sales associate wouldn’t believe those two youngsters were from wealthy families, not even if she were beaten to death.
Most importantly, there was a tiny hole in the corner of Lin Zifeng’s clothes.
"Forget it, I don’t want to explain it to you anymore. Just pack up your things tomorrow and get out. This temple is too small to accommodate a tiger as arrogant as you," Manager Wang said.
With that, Manager Wang dismissed the sales associate with a wave of his hand, telling her to get lost the next day without another word.
...
It was almost four in the afternoon when the young miss Li Lin excitedly took Lin Zifeng’s hand and led him to a dam with a rather nice view.
The two kicked off their shoes and sat shoulder to shoulder on the dam, watching the surging river below as the waves crashed against the huge tides with the wind.
Li Linlin dangled her white and tender feet, holding a fifty-cent popsicle in her hand, enjoying it with relish.
Seeing that Li Lin could be appeased with just fifty cents, Lin Zifeng’s bitter mouth curved into a faint smile.
"Who would have thought our Linlin would be so happy with just a fifty-cent popsicle? I guess the guy who marries you is going to laugh in his dreams."
"Hehe, as long as I’m happy, that’s what matters. Happiness isn’t something you can only get with money. A fifty-cent popsicle can be just as satisfying for me."
"You do have a pretty positive outlook," Lin Zifeng smiled and said.
If Li Lin were one of those girls who worshiped wealth, there’d be plenty of boys from well-off families at school for her to choose from.
In Li Lin’s eyes, money was good to have,
but money wasn’t everything, having enough to spend was sufficient.
"Of course, I am a secondary school teacher, after all. I’m faced with so many different students every day. If I, as their teacher, can’t be more upbeat than they are, how can they possibly come to understand more?"
"Hehe. I’m just not as upbeat as you are. If it were up to me, I would have chosen that bag just now, if only to slightly satisfy my own desires."
"But there are many desires in life that can’t be fulfilled, so does Brother Lin think he can have everything? I feel that living shouldn’t be so exhausting. Being happy is what matters. Society has lots of injustices, as well as many unfulfilled desires, but we must learn to be content and not take things too seriously. Just like what you told me at the LV store, Brother Lin, ’If you’re serious, you lose...’."
"Hehe, ’If you’re serious, you lose’?" Lin Zifeng let out a bitter smile and reached into his pocket for a cigarette.
But as soon as he pulled it out, Li Lin snatched it right out of his mouth.
Hands on hips and pouting cutely, she said with feigned anger, "Brother Lin, no more smoking for you! Today when we were shopping, I noticed you smoked way too many cigarettes. It’s not good for your health, so you should smoke less. If you really can’t control your craving, you could try some quit-smoking gum. I think the quit-smoking gum nowadays is quite good."
"Uh..."
This girl is really strict now, even begrudging him a single cigarette.
Looks like the days without smoking won’t be easy.
Lin Zifeng hurriedly smiled and nodded in agreement.
And he raised three fingers to the sky, swearing that he wouldn’t smoke anymore or anything like that.
That only made Li Lin laugh more. Her beautiful and elastic bosom shook with her laughter, like two dancers...
Only after Lin Zifeng sent Li Lin home that night did his little sister’s attentiveness make him feel somewhat unaccustomed.
It wasn’t until Li Tian, who had been anxiously waiting outside for ages, saw Lin Zifeng bring his precious daughter back.
He was most afraid that Lin Zifeng would keep Li Lin out all night.
After Li Lin went into the house, Lin Zifeng didn’t leave right away.
After all, his place wasn’t too far from Li Lin’s house.
He hadn’t been home to check on things for many days, and he had no idea what state his house was in now.
The last time he came back, Lin Zifeng actually caught a man dressed in black.
He wondered whether this time would bring about any more trouble.
When Lin Zifeng’s lonely figure reappeared in front of his own house,
he looked at the empty home, with the door still securely locked.
He didn’t go inside. Instead, he lingered outside for a while before his solitary figure gradually vanished into the night—
After Lin Zifeng left, slowly, a resolute man entirely clad in black came out from behind the house.
The man’s gaze was sharp, his presence formidable.
Under the moonlight, his pupils shone like a cat’s, actually giving off light!
