Chapter 348: The Legendary Death God

The middle-aged man didn’t speak but gazed at the direction where Lin Zifeng had left, silently lost in thought.

After a while, he turned his head and said softly to Su Ni, "There are many things that cannot be seen merely with the eyes."

"But sir, you saw it too. How could that guy possibly be the legendary Death God? You know the Death God died two years ago, and even if he returned now, it seems impossible he would be related to him, right?"

The police’s observational skills were far beyond ordinary people. When Lin Zifeng first intervened to help Huahua, some had already noticed it. Following the newspapers’ publicity, the Zhonghai City police issued an order to pay more attention to this young man, but they hadn’t anticipated how cunning Lin Zifeng could be.

Now, even Su Ni’s father felt uncertain. After all, with no evidence, he had no way to arrest him; his most substantial action was only suspicion. God knew whether he was really the mythical Death God.

Most importantly, this unknown fellow also had a vague connection with Nangong Bing, the top queen of Zhonghai City’s business world, which was causing the police a great headache.

The last time Hong Wen made a wrongful arrest, Nangong Bing brought all the city’s leaders out, showing how much she valued this person and her protective nature.

If something went wrong and provoked Nangong Bing, given the financial power of Tianyu Group, even he, the district police chief, might have to pack up his cap and move.

"You should still get in touch with him more. Better to trust it to be true than to distrust and miss out. My first impression of him was very special. I still suspect his identity."

The middle-aged man sighed, his whitish beard twitched slightly, and his upright demeanor and deep gaze created a sense of grandeur tinged with vicissitudes.

"If he really is the Death God, how could we possibly capture him?" Su Ni didn’t understand the meaning of her father’s words. If this guy really was the legendary Death God, with her limited ability, how could she contend against someone who could squash her with the flick of a finger?

"Right now, I’m just suspecting. If he is the legendary Death God, don’t rush to arrest him. Just follow and gather information for now; leave the rest to me."

"But..." Su Ni hesitated, pausing mid-sentence. The legendary Death God was, after all, her idol. If she had to arrest the Death God herself, it would be more painful than killing her.

Over the years, she had heard numerous stories about the Death God helping refugees both domestically and abroad, including his daring gamble in Las Vegas to aid refugees of one continent and multiple tales from Yunnan about assisting the border anti-drug squadron.

Thinking about this legendary Death God, Su Ni’s emotions became particularly intense. This was the hero she had often hoped to meet in her dreams. Unfortunately, the man she fantasized about in her dreams never appeared.

"There’s no room for ’but’. This is your duty as a police officer, and no personal feelings should interfere. Regardless of your emotions for him, family affection must take a back seat to the interests of the Empire. You need to prioritize, and that’s also the heavy responsibility you carry as a police officer!"

The middle-aged man suddenly turned around, his piercing eyes like a sharp bayonet stabbing into Su Ni’s gut, making her cast aside her last bit of personal affection.

Having been influenced by her father from a young age, and now that her father had spoken this way, what reason did she have to refuse...

Because they had knocked off early today, Huahua and Liu Tangtang had run off somewhere to frolic and hadn’t returned home for days, probably off vacationing in some empire.

Just as she got home, she saw Nangong Bing exiting the villa, and they collided face to face.

Having changed into casual clothes and clutching a small handbag in a flustered rush, Nangong Bing approached Lin Zifeng, who had initially wanted to leave, but had to awkwardly smile and meet her as she greeted him from afar.

"What are you up to, Boss?"

he asked, pointing at her small handbag.

"Come with me, we’re going to buy some groceries," Nangong Bing replied, putting on sunglasses that made her fair, delicate skin appear even whiter and brighter.

"Groceries?" Lin Zifeng assessed her from head to toe while dangling a cigarette from his lips.

"What are you looking at? Don’t be a creeper, okay?" Nangong Bing snapped.

"No, I’m just baffled. You’re the CEO of Tianyu Group, and you go out to buy groceries? You’re not pulling my leg, are you?"

"I’ll say it again, are you coming or not?" Nangong Bing reiterated, her regal airs from the office still very much intact. She maintained the poise of a lofty leader.

"Alright! Since I’m paid by you, I might as well go," he sighed resignedly, realizing that one must do as told when dependent on someone else’s paycheck.

Seeing Lin Zifeng’s submissive demeanor, Nangong Bing felt a wave of comfort from head to toe. This unusual sense of compliance was something she had never experienced with him before, as he usually argued with her incessantly. Today’s unquestioning obedience was quite pleasing and she felt a bit more like a queen.

Hmm, this Lin isn’t all that bad. He knows a thing or two about social niceties and can read the room, which is quite rare. How had she never noticed this obedient side of him before?

Thinking this, Nangong Bing felt even more like a queen and pointed at the car door, commanding coldly, "Open the door."

Great! She’s really getting a kick out of this, isn’t she?

Lin Zifeng glanced at her nonchalantly as she acted indifferent, and decided that since he had reached this point, he might as well indulge her in the full empress treatment.

"Please, Your Grace!" Lin Zifeng said with utmost respect, stretching out his hands straight, bending at the waist, and managing to squeeze a servile smile onto his resolute face.

"Hmm, not bad, little Lin. I’ll leave these kinds of things to you from now on. Don’t make me remind you again," she said as she lifted her chin slightly with a satisfied grunt, revealing no expression but secretly blossoming with joy inside.

My gosh! Am I really becoming your personal servant? Not only your personal driver but also your dedicated servant?

Lin Zifeng, oh Lin Zifeng, how could you be so naive? If you knew it would end up like this, why did you even come back? You should avoid stirring up trouble, especially with her!

It’s all that unscrupulous old man Nangong Shui’s scheme. Since his last visit, not only had the car been taken away, but all the Filipino maids taking care of Nangong Bing had been fired. Could it be that the old coot wanted to force us together?
