Chapter 339: Chapter 341: Removing the Tumor
Chapter 341: Eliminating the Cancer
"Brother, I saw a lot of police searches in the suburbs today. It looks like they’re looking for the murderer who killed Qiao Bu’en. Are we just going to stay like this? I’m afraid that when the time comes, we will..."
Because Lin Zifeng had slain Qiao Bu’en, and the fire at the Duel Arena had really set both the underworld and lawful sides of Zhonghai City abuzz. Now, Qiao Bu’en’s father was issuing a notice through the Martial Arts World to find the murderer, promising a huge reward of a million unconditionally to anyone who could provide leads. Thinking about this made Black Hawk start to worry; after all, the forces at play in Zhonghai City were too mixed and complex.
Through the experiences of the past few months, Black Hawk had more or less come to understand the current issues in Zhonghai City. Here, as long as you had money and power, there was almost nothing you couldn’t do. Black Hawk was from Singapore, and he had never been to Zhonghai City before. Their current predicament made Black Hawk somewhat worried for Lin Zifeng.
Back when they were abroad, they had Heavenly Gate’s protection, a large tree that provided cooling shade. Now that Heavenly Gate had abandoned them, they could be targeted by old enemies at any time.
However, the consequences he could think of, Lin Zifeng had already anticipated. Although on the surface he appeared nonchalant every day, in fact, he was clearer than anyone about his own situation, knowing that what was to come would come eventually.
In the days since returning to Huaxia, Lin Zifeng found that coming back to his home country wasn’t as good as he imagined. He felt as if an invisible force was moving in the shadows, which could erupt at any moment. Take for example the incident where Nangong Bing was attacked; Lin Zifeng had been quietly observing in the background these few days. However, it seemed like the opponent was deliberately scheming, so for him, Lin Zifeng, this situation was not completely disadvantageous, as it gave him sufficient time.
"Brother, what, what should we do in the coming days?" After thinking for a while, Black Hawk couldn’t just keep on waiting indefinitely since reuniting with his big brother; the most important thing was that they still hadn’t found the remains of the twelve brothers, which was a huge burden on Black Hawk’s mind.
Seeing Black Hawk’s bewildered expression, Lin Zifeng was also thinking about these issues. After all, Black Hawk was still alive, and some things that were destined to happen couldn’t be avoided.
"I will take you somewhere tonight." Lin Zifeng’s usual smile remained silent, laying out the food he had bought on the way on the table, then quietly smoked, his eyes fixed on the night sky, as if he was brewing something.
Looking at his calm expression, Black Hawk suddenly felt that his big brother had changed from before, becoming more profound and even more frightening.
It seemed like everything was under his control.
Thinking about this, Black Hawk’s eyes became even more moist. If the twelve brothers were still alive, what an exciting thing that would be, but sadly, that was no longer possible...
In a seaside villa in the West District of Zhonghai City, a middle-aged man with piercing eyes stared intently at a photo of a young man who had passed away. Judging from the angles of his face, he bore a clear resemblance to Qiao Bu’en, but the middle-aged man knew how to be more reserved than his son, better at hiding.
Gazing at the photo of his deceased son, the middle-aged man gripped his cigar tightly, his facial muscles trembling, teeth clenched, with tears involuntarily streaming down his cheeks.
Just the morning before last, he received news that his son had been burned to death. At the time, Qiao Hongtian thought it was a rumor spread intentionally by someone. When the police delivered the remains of Qiao Bu’en to this kingpin who had dominated West District of Zhonghai City for decades, he was completely shocked!
He swore to find the real culprit within three days, to tear the perpetrator to pieces, but those words had been out for two days now, and the small-time thugs living on the edge in Zhonghai City didn’t know how many had been mobilized. Still, the information they brought back to Qiao Hongtian was always empty, infuriating this old monster who had remained unchallenged in Zhonghai City for decades.
Taking three hundred men, he barged directly into the West District police station, insisting that the deputy chief must find the real killer within three days. As a result, even the normally desolate suburbs were visited by many police checks today.
But just as Qiao Hongtian was waking from his grief, he discovered an unexpected visitor in his office!
And this person was someone he knew.
"Black Hawk!"
Qiao Hongtian sprang up from his chair, grabbed the Hand Arrow that was always with him from the table, and pointed it at Black Hawk’s head, taking steps towards him.
"You actually didn’t die!" Qiao Hongtian’s first words were somewhat shocked. Although among those who escaped from the Duel Arena, they all claimed it was a man with an ancient mask who had fought with Black Hawk that night. Black Hawk was knocked out by the masked man who then went on a killing spree...
Now that he saw Black Hawk again, it wasn’t difficult for Qiao Hongtian to surmise that this ’dog’ he had raised must be inextricably linked to the masked man.
"Does Mr. Qiao wish for my death so eagerly?" said Black Hawk, wearing a black leather trench coat, a black duckbill cap, and his hair freshly cut that evening. Smoking a cigarette with a smile that was not quite a smile, he looked at Qiao Hongtian.
"You can still survive! I’ll give you one chance, what’s your relationship with that man in the mask?" Even though Qiao Hongtian was middle-aged, the aura he exuded was not something ordinary young people could match.
"Heh, do you think you might be a little too conceited, Mr. Qiao?" Black Hawk said lightly, with a faint smile.
Although it was just a light smile, it caused a significant shock in Qiao Hongtian’s heart.
Qiao Hongtian had always treated him like a dog to train, but he never expected him to talk to himself like this today. This contrast made Qiao Hongtian feel an ominous premonition rising within him.
"Don’t waste your breath on me! Do you think I really wouldn’t dare to kill you? You’re nothing but a dog I raised. Just a dog that makes money for me! Without me, you would have been dead long ago!"
Qiao Hongtian pressed the tip of the arrow hard against Black Hawk’s head, his voice clanging with power.
"Mr. Qiao, would you say that the speed at which you release the arrow is faster, or is it that you die faster?" Suddenly, instead of showing any fear, Black Hawk calmly started this conversation with him.
"What did you say?"
Qiao Hongtian’s old face twitched.
"What he means is he’s asking whether you shoot arrows faster or die faster!"
Just then, a detached male voice came from behind Qiao Hongtian. Qiao was seasoned enough to know that someone who could appear silently behind him must be far more terrifying than Black Hawk. In a single swift motion, he pointed the hand arrow behind him, realizing that the person was undoubtedly much more dreadful.
But just as he turned and aimed the hand arrow at the man behind him, he suddenly discovered that the arrow in his hand, at a speed too fast for the naked eye to discern, twisted and softened until the dark mouth of the arrow had turned into an iron hook!
"You!"
Before Qiao Hongtian could finish his sentence, the man abruptly grasped Qiao’s neck forcefully with a large hand.
In a single stride, he pinned Qiao Hongtian hard against the wall. As the strength in his arm increased, Qiao’s body slowly lifted off the ground, completely suspended by one robust arm.
When Qiao Hongtian managed to see the man’s face, his eyes bulged as he struggled fiercely, but beneath Lin Zifeng’s powerful grip, he had no hope of resistance. Perhaps Qiao at his age could handle a couple of street punks, but contending with a freak like Lin Zifeng was sheer suicide.
"It’s you!" Qiao Hongtian’s face reddened from being hoisted up, his eyes fixed on the man in the antique mask before him.
"Haven’t you been looking for me for days?" Lin Zifeng said coldly, smiling from behind his mask.
"You!" Qiao Hongtian was choked to the point that he could hardly speak.
At that moment, Lin Zifeng gave Black Hawk a knowing look, and then he released Qiao’s throat. But before Qiao’s body hit the ground, Black Hawk pulled out two small black, sharp knives from his clothing.
Whoosh, whoosh filled the entire office.
Just before he was about to land, Qiao Hongtian was viciously struck by the two knives in both shoulders, pinning him harshly against the wall! Sweat poured from Qiao’s forehead from the pain, yet he didn’t let out a terrible scream, biting down hard and enduring it.
Lin Zifeng, who had turned away, suddenly looked back at Qiao with a hint of surprise. Indeed, he was an underworld kingpin who had dominated Zhonghai City for decades. Such endurance was expected.
Lin Zifeng slowly walked to the office chair where Qiao had just been sitting, propped his legs up, leisurely smoked a cigarette, and began rummaging through the drawers, looking over the drug transactions Qiao had been dealing all these years.
Every time he saw an account marked with a red dot, Lin Zifeng’s brow would uncontrollably furrow.
Watching the man who looked like the Death God going through the drug business he had sold all these years, Qiao Hongtian started to get agitated, but his shoulders were deeply nailed to the wall by the knives, his body hanging there. The agony of the knives grinding against his shoulder blades almost made Qiao faint, but he clenched his teeth and held on desperately.
"Mr. Qiao, don’t you feel a bit uncomfortable spending all the money you’ve made over the years?" Lin Zifeng asked slowly, putting down the ledger and staring at Qiao with a smile that wasn’t quite a smile.
"If you guys have the guts, just kill me! I’m not afraid to die," Qiao Hongtian’s twisted face began shaking from the pain.
"I know you’re not afraid to die, but I just want to ask you, all these years you’ve been luring Fusang people to sell ’powder’ to Huaxia, don’t you feel the slightest pangs of conscience?"
From the inspection just now, Qiao Hongtian had sold several tons of powder alongside Fusang people. Who knows how many families had been destroyed, wives and children separated? And what infuriated Lin Zifeng the most was that for all these years, through smuggling and dealing, this guy targeted exclusively the people of Huaxia. Was he not Chinese himself?
How could he be so ruthless to his own compatriots? Was he not afraid of retribution, either for himself or for his son?
Lin Zifeng did not consider himself a good person, nor could he be the Savior who would rescue countless people from dire straits. What he could do was remove such malignant tumors.
