Chapter 315: Provoking Public Outrage
"How dare you hit me?!"
Struck fiercely across the face by Lin Zifeng, Hong Wen was completely infuriated.
Covering his red and purpling swollen cheek, he glared at Lin Zifeng, his eyes filled with resentment and venom!
"Does it hurt?"
Lin Zifeng smiled, a very sunny smile at that, resembling that of a smiling tiger. The worst part was, he had just hit someone and was now asking if it hurt?
"Oh, right, didn’t you just call me crazy? Hmm, I thought about it, and I do have some craziness in me; I sometimes have flare-ups, and it just so happens that I didn’t bring my medication with me today, sorry about that." As he spoke, he appeared genuinely concerned and was about to reach out to touch Hong Wen’s reddened face but was swatted away by Hong Wen.
"You dare to assault a police officer! I’ll sue you! I’ll make you..."
Hong Wen was screaming hysterically, only to find that not a single person around him cared about his behavior.
Turning to look at Lin Zifeng again, he saw the unscrupulous crazy man actually smiling at him, and such a sinister smile at that: "Assault a police officer? Oh my! Officer Hong, isn’t that hat a bit too big for you? How could a good citizen like me commit such an act? Unless my years-long untreated craziness acted up again, as a person who wouldn’t even dare to step on an ant, you claim I assaulted an officer. Isn’t that a bit too over the top?"
"You, you, you!" Hong Wen was so angry he was nearly ready to slap him. He couldn’t make a move in front of so many people, and besides, how could he beat the freak who could rechannel electrical voltage onto himself?
"Kid, don’t think just because you have backing that I can’t deal with you today. Su Ni! You saw what happened just now, didn’t you? Did he or did he not assault a police officer?" Hong Wen stared his eyes almost bulging out as if he wanted to eat Lin Zifeng alive, pointing at Su Ni as he spoke.
The response he got was merely an eye roll from Su Ni: "I, I didn’t see anything just now."
"You! What about you guys?" Hong Wen was nearly going mad, so he turned his head and asked the surrounding crowd instead, only to still be met with a round of eye rolls. Everyone shook their heads indicating they saw nothing.
This was true provocation of public outrage.
At that moment, Lin Zifeng’s image was undoubtedly held in high esteem by everyone, making them unwilling to cross him. Who would want to offend a hero who had selflessly and courageously saved others?
"Are you all blind? None of you saw this kid assaulting an officer?" Hong Wen was completely losing control of his emotions.
He rolled up his sleeves and began to accuse the crowd.
"Youngster, don’t think you’re so high and mighty just because you’re on the government payroll. I’ve seen plenty of important people, didn’t you arrogantly call someone crazy just now? What, are you panicked now? If you’re so tough, why don’t you take a bite at someone?" Apparently, some hot-tempered middle-aged uncles in the crowd couldn’t stand Hong Wen’s senseless biting and started to lose their patience.
They pointed at Hong Wen’s smug nose and began cursing loudly.
"What the hell do you think you are! Dressed in dog skin, you think you have power and status? Didn’t you look to see who pays your salary? Without us taxpayers, you’re nothing, just a fart. Where were you when the rescue was happening? Now that someone heroically saves lives without any desire for repayment, you just can’t stand it, huh? So what if I want to hit you? Damn it, I really do want to hit you!"
Seeing that the crowd was getting more agitated, many spectators couldn’t stand Hong Wen’s arrogant attitude anymore and began to chastise him, nearly ready to slap him right there.
"You! You dare to insult me?" Hong Wen lashed out with a fierce and terrifying look.
"Cursing you? What’s wrong with cursing you? You think you can hit me? When I was driving a Soviet Union T-34 tank and firing Katyusha rockets, your dad wasn’t even a seed in your grandma’s belly yet!"
As everyone was criticizing Hong Wen, an elderly gentleman, supported by his family members, came up mumbling and pointed at Hong Wen, launching into a tirade.
Zifeng, who had just performed the rescue, watched everything from inside the vehicle, surprised that the guy in the police uniform was so arrogant.
"Let’s go." Zifeng shrugged his shoulders amidst the crowd and tugged at Su Ni next to him.
"What for?" Su Ni blinked in surprise.
"Do you still plan to stay here and watch the show?" Zifeng asked her incredulously.
"But, what about him?" Su Ni opened her mouth, but seeing Zifeng walked directly towards the police car without turning back, she lost any interest in paying attention to Hong Wen.
...
Soon, the police car left the suburbs, heading straight for the station.
"I ask you, how did you know that little boy wasn’t dead?" Zifeng was still smoking leisurely in the police car.
"He wasn’t dead at all, so how am I supposed to answer your interesting question?" Zifeng said with a smile.
"There has to be a reason, right? You just went to save him without having any reasonable cause?" Reflecting on the scene of Zifeng saving the little boy, Su Ni felt somewhat touched. After all, someone whose life could vanish at any moment was rescued by this guy who spared no effort and even risked his own life. How many men could have such courage?
"Didn’t I just say so? The boy was in a state of suspended animation, he wasn’t really dead." Zifeng moved his lips. He really didn’t feel like answering such a dumb question.
"Suspended animation? How come I don’t know about that?" Su Ni wondered.
"There’s a lot you don’t know," he bluntly told her, not minding the hit to her ego and without any intention of buttering her up.
"You!"
"What about me? Isn’t what I said correct? There’s a sea of things you don’t know. Do you understand how wonderful the World in this Great Thousand World is?" He took out another cigarette from his pocket and slowly lit it.
Asshole! Jerk! Can’t you explain it to me just because I don’t know? Not a shred of gentlemanly behavior. After all, I’m considered a beauty in the police force, aren’t I? I have the figure, the looks are not bad, and my skills aren’t inferior to others. Is it that hard for you to flatter me? So, in your eyes, am I really that stupid?
Su Ni grew increasingly annoyed.
"So tell me, is there really anything more amazing in this World?" Su Ni tried to suppress her fiery temper, wanting to hear what grand principles this guy could come up with. In her mind, Zifeng had an image of a duck: thick-skinned and stubborn, an utter rascal who was also extraordinarily eloquent, capable of arguing that what was dead could come to life.
"Heh heh, can I take that as you seeking my guidance?" Zifeng chuckled dryly.
"Are you going to talk? If not, forget it. Don’t think you’re impressive just because you saved the little boy. I’ll have you know, I’ve never asked anyone for advice in my life, including my parents!"
