Chapter 290: Chapter 293: Can’t You Survive Without Pretending to Be Cool?
Chapter 293: Will You Die If You Don’t Pretend to Be Cool?
"What’s wrong, handsome, did you get dumped? If there’s something bothering you, you can talk to me about it. Maybe I can help share the burden?"
"Leave."
Lin Zifeng said indifferently.
"..." The girl was taken aback, just as she was about to finish her sentence, she hadn’t expected the man before her to be so direct, so cold. His face was devoid of any warmth, like ice that wouldn’t melt for thousands of years.
The girl pouted and silently cursed Lin Zifeng for being unromantic, then she walked away in search of her next target. Girls like her who were always looking for rich men weren’t uncommon to Lin Zifeng; he figured she was probably drawn to him because of his fancy car.
After finishing his cigarette, Lin Zifeng didn’t stay for a moment longer. It was said that if you parked a car with a bit of taste at the university entrance, girls would come up to you trying to strike up a conversation, and it seemed this was no lie at all.
However, Lin Zifeng really had no interest in these young girls, let alone spoil them and degrade himself.
After dropping the young girl off at school, Lin Zifeng drove straight home. Nangong Bing had told him to accompany her out in the afternoon, but he had no idea what for, so he simply couldn’t be bothered to think about those headache-inducing issues.
After returning home, since it was the weekend, Nangong Bing was reclining on the sofa casually flipping through a magazine. Whenever she came across an image that moved her, she would occasionally furrow her brows, her beautiful visage making this icy woman look even more gorgeous.
She was indeed beautiful, but this woman was naturally arrogant and ice-cold, making her difficult to get along with.
Seeing Lin Zifeng had returned without her noticing, Nangong Bing just slightly lifted her head and glanced at him indifferently, her voice distant, "Finished dropping off Huahua?"
Gazing at Nangong Bing in her casual outfit and her enchanting perfect curves, Lin Zifeng couldn’t help but take a few extra glances.
You have to admit, today Nangong Bing was not in her usual professional outfit. The simple, pure white, and loose casual wear really emphasized her perfection. He was used to seeing her in a blazer and classic long skirt, so this sudden change was indeed a sight to behold.
What a pity though, this woman never seemed to understand what ’sexy’ or ’revealing’ meant. You really couldn’t associate these words with her. She was truly conservative.
"Yeah, I’ve dropped her off," Lin Zifeng replied casually, then headed towards the fridge to grab a bottle of drink and started sipping it.
Nangong Bing just glanced up at him and then didn’t say anything more.
The whole morning passed in silence. Nangong Bing didn’t talk, and he couldn’t be bothered to initiate conversation. If he did, he might just annoy her.
So, the morning was quite tragic for both of them.
Especially for Nangong Bing, who thought to herself: What’s with this guy today? Why is he so quiet? He’s not usually like this, did he change his personality? No, that can’t be. He doesn’t seem to be in a bad mood. Maybe... Forget it, I’m Nangong Bing, why am I bothering to guess what he’s thinking? I’ve got nothing to do with him. Since he’s so quiet, let’s just keep it this way, it would be better to avoid him getting any ideas.
"Um, Bingbing, could you tell me what we’re going to do this afternoon?"
About half an hour later, Lin Zifeng finally couldn’t hold back and asked.
Nangong Bing’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, thinking: Who is ’Bingbing’ to you? Why are you calling me that intimately? Do we have that kind of relationship? But then her thoughts unwillingly drifted to that night’s incident, her cheeks flushing red as she debated within herself whether to set him straight so he wouldn’t call her that intimately again. Yet, she reasoned that he was probably just trying to get closer, and it didn’t seem to be a big issue.
Slowly turning her head, Nangong Bing spoke with her fragrant breath, "Didn’t you already meet him once last time? Have you forgotten that fashion expert?"
"Oh! I remember now, that’s the guy with the same name as Qiao Bu’si, Qiao what’s-his-name, right?" Lin Zifeng’s face turned a bit bitter. That guy who loved to show off had given him a bank card last time and told him to stay away from Nangong Bing. He hadn’t expected this guy still hadn’t given up on Nangong Bing. Looks like having an attractive future wife can be a curse too.
"Qiao Bu’en," Nangong Bing corrected him indifferently. Even though the man was named Qiao Bu’en, it got twisted in his mouth.
"Right, right, that guy. What, you’re meeting him today?" Lin Zifeng was a bit incredulous as he leaned back.
"Do you know his background?" Nangong Bing asked, slowly setting down the magazine and elegantly sipping her coffee from the crystal table.
"Oh?! Hearing you say that, I really do want to know what his background is," Lin Zifeng said with an interested smile, eyeing Nangong Bing’s white fingers. A woman’s beauty could indeed be seen in her hands, and such gorgeous fingers were rare.
"He is the son of Qiao Hongtian, the leader of the Dragon Roar Society in Zhonghai City’s West District. It’s said his background is quite complex. How about that for a grand entrance?" Nangong Bing’s eyes gleamed as she explained.
"Dragon Roar Gang? So he’s a member of the underworld, huh?" Lin Zifeng said, indifferent and nonchalant, while he also inwardly groaned. Why on earth would Nangong Bing have to meet him? And someone he had messed with at that. Wouldn’t that be like enemies meeting and seeing red?
"I don’t know, I’m not really interested in that sort of thing," Nangong Bing replied coolly to Lin Zifeng’s question, dashing the little excitement he had been feeling.
"Then why are you meeting with him if you don’t know? Besides, you two aren’t even acquainted," Lin Zifeng said.
"You don’t need to worry about that. You just accompany me later, okay? By the way, I’ve prepared a new suit for you, go try it on and see if it fits."
"Heh heh, anything from my wife is a perfect fit. How could it not be?"
Lin Zifeng chuckled then scurried off to the room, leaving Nangong Bing alone, leaning on the sofa and rolling her eyes.
...
Looking at the black suit with blue lapels hanging in front of his bed, Lin Zifeng felt a warm feeling inside. It seemed his wife wasn’t that disagreeable after all; she knew how to take care of people.
Without further thought, Lin Zifeng donned the suit, tied his tie, and looked in the mirror. Hmm, not bad, pretty handsome.
About several minutes later, Lin Zifeng emerged wearing the suit Nangong Bing had bought for him, and you can’t deny it, even Nangong Bing was a bit smitten.
"What do you think, boss? Do I look sharp in these clothes?" Lin Zifeng was on the verge of praising himself.
"Wow, Lin, I didn’t see that coming. ’Clothes make the man and saddles make the horse.’ I didn’t expect you to have quite the presence in the suit I chose for you," Nangong Bing teased Lin Zifeng, an unusual occurrence when they were alone. If there were people around, she would never say such flirty words to him.
"Heh, boss, there’s a lot you haven’t noticed about me. After all, I’m a handsome guy, right?" Having just been complimented, the guy started to brag again.
Nangong Bing skewered him with a glare and retorted with a laugh, "Would you die if you weren’t being a poser?"
"Eh! Boss, when did you learn to swear? That’s... that’s not like you at all! Who would’ve thought, huh?" Lin Zifeng was shocked by Nangong Bing’s suddenly daring words.
"Go on, there’s a lot you haven’t noticed," Nangong Bing unusually broke into a smile.
Er, that’s true, I really hadn’t noticed your peeping habit... otherwise, over my dead body would I agree to live under the same roof as you...
In the afternoon, in accordance with Qiao Bu’en’s invitation, Nangong Bing arrived on time at a high-end café, and from afar, she saw Qiao Bu’en waving to her.
"Miss Nangong," Qiao Bu’en greeted her with a rich smile.
But when he saw Lin Zifeng following behind Nangong Bing, his face suddenly fell. He would always remember how the last time at the Trading Building, this guy had stolen his wallet, leaving him in the awkward position of being unable to pay the bill. What could be more humiliating than that?
However, today Lin Zifeng was not so lucky. Qiao Bu’en’s eyes narrowed, a fleeting chill flashing through them as he sneered internally.
"Hello, Mr. Qiao."
As Lin Zifeng obsequiously pulled out a chair, Nangong Bing sat down and coldly greeted Qiao Bu’en.
"Hello, Miss Nangong, please, have a seat," Qiao Bu’en, ever the gentleman, poured tea and water for Nangong Bing with a courteous welcome. "May I ask who your friend is, Miss Nangong?"
The insinuation in Qiao Bu’en’s words was clear. This son of a gun was pretending not to recognize Lin Zifeng after just a few short weeks, acting the part of a gentleman. It was as if even after having met before, he had to ask again.
"He’s my assistant," Nangong Bing replied coolly, her expression unchanging.
Assistant? When did I become your assistant? I thought we had agreed that I would be the bodyguard.
Bowing his head to drink his tea, Lin Zifeng almost spit it out all over Qiao Bu’en’s face across from him. Good lord, Nangong Bing changed her story so fast? Maybe in a few days, I’ll be promoted to her lover...
"Oh, the assistant of Miss Nangong. I was quite offensive last time, I hope you can forgive me, brother," said Qiao Bu’en.
Qiao Bu’en knew that he and Lin Zifeng had had some unpleasantness the first time they met. Back then, seeing Nangong Bing’s indifference toward him, Qiao Bu’en had thought their relationship was very tense, so he had tried to wedge himself in between them. However, seeing them laughing and walking in together now, Qiao Bu’en realized their relationship was definitely not as antagonistic as he had witnessed before, so he immediately changed his tune, his words hiding a sly intent.
