Chapter 213: High Stakes in Las Vegas
This guy was watching, but internally he was incredibly conflicted. Just after conquering the righteous side of himself and preparing to enjoy the seductive scene, he didn’t expect the girl to suddenly yell out "beast" at this very moment.
Startled, someone quickly pulled up his underwear and hustled out of the bathroom.
And as he left, he still couldn’t help but cast longing glances at that scene in the bathroom.
When he got back to the room, he saw the girl wearing flip-flops, swaying her hips with a Coke in her hand as she coquettishly scolded Lin Zifeng, "Beast, I called you for ages, why didn’t you respond at all?"
The girl pouted unhappily.
"I didn’t hear you, I just went to the bathroom," Lin Zifeng said, face unblushing and heart unfluttering. He didn’t feel embarrassed about that scene at all; instead, he acted as if nothing had happened.
"Wow! You went to the bathroom just now?"
Hua Buqi stared with wide eyes, a strange smile curling at the corner of her mouth. Her dark, round eyes scanned Lin Zifeng.
"What? Is there something wrong?"
Someone stood confidently and acted clueless on purpose.
"Meng sister said she was taking a shower; didn’t you see her when you were in the bathroom just now?"
The girl was somewhat surprised. This guy said he went to the bathroom, and Meng Youjing was showering; they couldn’t have missed each other. That wouldn’t make sense.
"No."
Although he said no, internally he thought to himself, oh dear, Meng Youjing usually dresses conservatively, but her figure is definitely not to be underestimated. Recalling that scene just now, Lin Zifeng felt a bit aroused, but unfortunately, this girl had interrupted him, or else he would have looked a few more times.
"No? Really?"
Hua Buqi scratched her cheek.
Lin Zifeng coughed and said earnestly, "No, I’m a proper man, you know." His words sounded as if some uncle was luring a little girl home with candy to "watch the goldfish"—just talk.
After speaking, his gleaming eyes couldn’t help but drift toward the girl’s chest.
Instantly, his face turned slightly red and he awkwardly turned his head away, saying, "That, that Huahua, I’m not just any man, but if you don’t put on your clothes properly, I really might become one."
Lin Zifeng’s implications were clear. Hua Buqi was wearing flip-flops with a simple nightgown on top, displaying her petite and graceful body, especially the partially exposed snow-white delicate skin on her chest that was faintly visible. Anyone with slightly better eyes could see it clearly.
"Ah?!"
The girl was startled, then let out a light moan, quickly using her pale hand to fuss with her nightgown.
With a face of bashful and peculiar expression she glanced at Lin Zifeng, her voice full of youthful charm, "Uncle, you’re peeking again, be careful I tell my cousin."
Peeking? Where did I peek? You clearly displayed that patch of snow-white skin in front of me, didn’t you? When did I peek? I was being completely aboveboard.
Lin Zifeng really wanted to explain, but he ultimately held back.
Sitting in silence on the sofa, with the air of a wronged little woman, he muttered quietly, "It’s not like I did it on purpose."
Watching Lin Zifeng sitting there daintily like a decent housewife, the girl’s original pretty, youthful face immediately changed as his expression did, and her complexion gradually worsened.
Frowning and touching her cute nose, she said, "No way, Uncle, are you starting to act pitiful and cute with me too? Ew! So gross."
The girl wore a look of utter disdain.
"Acting cute? Who, who, who’s acting cute? Who’s acting cute? You’re the one acting cute, your whole family’s acting cute!"
Zifeng’s expression turned stern as he suddenly stood up, hands on hips, mimicking the stance of a shrew haranguing in the street, the transformation in his expression leaving the girl agape. It seemed the beast was beginning to mimic her.
"You!" The girl flared up. Her inner fury instantly ignited, hands on hips, copying Zifeng’s scolding pose, feeling as if she wanted to charge at him and devour him.
"You beast, what did you just say? Are you looking to die?" The girl’s eruption was no joke.
"Looking to live."
Zifeng remained as indifferent as a dead pig to scalding water.
Still dignified, he responded to Huahua.
"What are you two doing?"
Just as the tension between them peaked, Meng Youjing emerged from the bathroom, clad in a bath towel, her hair wet and disheveled. She curiously watched their verbal duel while drying her hair with both hands.
"Nothing, it’s none of your business."
Both retorted simultaneously to Meng Youjing.
Then they ignored each other, slumped on the couch, arms folded, huffily turning their heads aside.
They made Meng Youjing seem as if she owed them millions.
And Zifeng, completely unremorseful, was actually holding a grudge against a girl, not at all behaving like a man, as the girl fumed inwardly at Zifeng a hundred times over.
Zifeng shook his head privately, feeling helpless. It was her who had asked him to come all the way from Zhonghai City, and now she treated him like he didn’t exist, like he was nothing but flatulence.
But maybe this was for the best. He would rather have Huahua dislike him than to have any feelings for him.
If they got along too well, feelings might develop over time, and who knows if she might fall in love with him. Then, if somehow both she and her cousin got involved with him, he would be so mired in scandal that not even the Yellow River could cleanse him.
So, they continued their feud until eight that night, during which the girl had only a glass of milk, glaring at Zifeng with a deadly gaze, again and again. Zifeng, on the other hand, watched a country romance TV show alone, munching on fruit, occasionally grinning broadly. He completely ignored the girl sitting beside him, visibly upset.
The girl was so angry she wanted to throw her flip-flop at his face. No wonder her cousin disliked this man so much; there must be a reason to despise someone without cause.
Time quickly turned to the next day.
Because of last night’s argument, it ended with Zifeng appeasing her before they went to sleep; otherwise, the girl might have done something impulsive in the night, which would really have screwed things up.
When the next day’s bright sunshine again spilled into the room, Zifeng stretched lazily, feeling grateful.
Having lived for over two decades, this period had been the most comfortable days of his life. The greatest blessing in the world isn’t owning lands far and wide or possessing immense wealth, but rather, waking up to bright sunshine knowing you’re still alive.
Still able to breathe fresh air—is the most fortunate thing.
People are often most sentimental just before sleeping at night or upon waking in the morning, thinking about all sorts of random things.
Of course, Zifeng was no exception.
Gazing at the apartment as white as snow and feeling the warmth inside, Zifeng slowly reached into the pocket of his bedside to pull out a cigarette, then leisurely began to smoke.
After blowing a ring of smoke, Zifeng’s thoughts were chaotic as he watched the mild sunshine outside the window, inevitably recalling a scene several years ago in Las Vegas.
