Chapter 181: Chapter 184 Lin, You’re Kidding Me
Chapter 184: Mr. Lin, You Must Be Joking with Me
"You!" Nangong Bing glared with wide eyes, utterly unable to have a decent conversation with this brute.
Lin Zifeng was smoking a cigarette, casually blowing out a ring of smoke with an air of self-satisfaction, completely oblivious to any sense of crisis.
The more Lin Zifeng seemed calm and ignored everything, the angrier Nangong Bing got, especially since he appeared so unambitious and his frivolous attitude toward life was simply intolerable to her.
What infuriated her the most was that he would smoke these second-rate cigarettes right in front of her; didn’t he know that such poor quality cigarettes posed a significant risk of secondhand smoke harm to others?
Watching his carefree demeanor, Nangong Bing still couldn’t help but want to criticize him, even going out of her way to take a dig at him.
Her bright eyes and dazzling teeth parted as she said, with a roll of her eyes, "Do you even know that many successful individuals don’t smoke, and that it’s usually the losers who can hardly guarantee their own subsistence that resort to cigarettes to drown their sorrows?"
"Heh heh, boss lady, that seems a bit prejudiced, doesn’t it? You can’t just tar everyone with the same brush. Who says that smokers can’t be successful? Haven’t you heard that for men, cigarettes are like a second lease on life? They not only relieve stress but also soothe the soul, much like how you ladies love your little handbags and makeup."
"Huh, what a joke. Why don’t you go take a look at our Tianyu Group and see how many people there are like you who treat cigarettes like their staple food? Moreover, most of the successful men in higher positions don’t have the smoking habit, unlike you, who loafs around with a cigarette all day. Don’t you feel embarrassed?"
Nangong Bing wanted to strike a blow at him, to make Mr. Lin realize that she, Nangong Bing, was not someone to be messed with easily.
Lin Zifeng’s eyes spun a few times as he smiled, "If that’s what you really think, boss lady, there’s not much I can do about it. How about I prove it to you?"
"How are you going to prove it?" Nangong Bing’s interest was piqued.
"Aren’t you in a rush to catch a plane to Yanjing this afternoon? Perfect, I’ll prove it to you on the way."
"Pfft! As if I’d believe you."
Nangong Bing couldn’t be bothered with him and got up to go to her room. She had been in a rush to deal with the company’s internal affairs today, as she needed to rush to Yanjing in the afternoon for a project discussion, so she didn’t have the time to entertain Lin Zifeng’s lousy excuses.
But when she thought about the danger she faced the last time she went alone to discuss a project, Nangong Bing actually felt a bit scared.
If it hadn’t been for the man in the bronze mask who appeared, she could hardly imagine what might have happened, which is why, out of necessity, she had decided to bring Lin Zifeng along as her so-called ’bodyguard’.
After packing briefly, Nangong Bing handed a plane ticket to Lin Zifeng.
"Here, this is your ticket to Yanjing for this afternoon."
Nangong Bing, in a rather irritated mood, tossed the ticket directly into Lin Zifeng’s hands, then picked up her suitcase and strode out.
Lin Zifeng examined the ticket, which stated the flight was at six o’clock in the evening. Lin Zifeng didn’t really care, so he just put it in his pocket and followed Nangong Bing out of the villa.
As always, Lin Zifeng still played the part of the driver, driving Nangong Bing’s car. The two of them kept silent on the road; Lin Zifeng didn’t want to provoke her since he hadn’t even dealt with his own issues and had no time for idle chatter.
What troubled Lin Zifeng the most at the moment was the origin of the black bracelet on his wrist. It puzzled him, as he glanced at the bracelet, so ordinary it couldn’t be any more so. His thoughts drifted into a solemn stillness.
It was as if his memories were taking him back to that Dark Prison that had nearly driven him to mental breakdown several times...
Meanwhile, on the other side, Zhang Biao, wounded, had plunged into the sea. Fortunately, he was a good swimmer and managed to escape back to safety. However, when he returned to Ye Wudao’s side, he only saw Ye Wudao standing with his hands behind his back, his eyes grim as he stood in the hall. Behind him lay two burly men who were writhing on the ground in agony, their life forces flickering on the verge of extinguishment.
Their arms had all been broken by Ye Wudao, and even the tendons in their limbs had been viciously severed by him. When Zhang Biao, covered in blood, ran back, Ye Wudao’s cold eyes showed no emotion.
"Ye, Young Master Ye! Quick, save me! Please, save me."
Zhang Biao was drenched in blood, his life hanging by a thread, as if he could die at any moment.
Seeing one of his eyes gouged out, Ye Wudao even felt a bit nauseated.
"What happened?" Ye Wudao asked indifferently.
"Ye, Young Master Ye, that kid has a special identity, I’m afraid he really might be from the Lin Family in Yanjing!"
Zhang Biao now felt acute discomfort even breathing.
Especially the eye that Lin Zifeng had gouged out, which was already flipped red with remnants of flesh hanging from the eyelid. Washed by the seawater, the eyelid was filled with dark, mangled flesh that looked as though it had been scalded by boiling water.
Ye Wudao’s cold lips curved up slightly as he looked at Zhang Biao as if he were looking at an object rather than a living being, swiftly bending down as if to help Zhang Biao up.
But, to Zhang Biao’s unsuspecting horror, Ye Wudao’s hands tightly gripped Zhang Biao’s head, then a crisp "crack" sound was heard, and Zhang Biao slumped powerlessly to the ground, his eyes still wide open as if refusing to close in death. He never imagined that after serving Ye Wudao for so long, he would end up with such a fate.
After finishing all this, Ye Wudao still stood with his hands behind his back, his eyes deep and profound, quietly muttering, "Lin Zifeng!"
...
As Lin Zifeng drove and stopped at the traffic light, Nangong Bing pondered the suspicious things she had just discussed at home.
Turning her eyes, she secretly thought, this guy is supposed to prove something to me, right? Good. I want to see how exactly he plans to prove it. If he can’t prove it, it just means this guy is all talk. Then I can play with him however I want.
"Didn’t you say you were going to prove something to me? What’s the matter, forgot so soon?"
Nangong Bing’s voice was fiery as she turned her delicate head to look at him.
"Don’t rush, I’ll prove it to you in a minute," Lin Zifeng said casually, confident in his demeanor.
The more composed he appeared, the more Nangong Bing was filled with doubt and anticipation, after all, everyone harbors a curiosity towards the unknown.
"What, are you stalling for time? Or planning to forget? Lin, you wouldn’t be fooling me, would you?"
Nangong Bing was not giving him any face.
Lin Zifeng did not answer her but drove the car to a place with a dense crowd and stayed silent.
"Lin, you wouldn’t be just talking big, would you? If you really can’t prove it, that’s fine too. Just apologize to me humbly, and I’ll act as if nothing happened."
What a joke! I’ve neither offended you nor sought you out, why should I apologize to you? You can’t spoil a woman like that; the more you indulge her, the more she takes it for granted.
