Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain -
Chapter 40: RED SUITS YOU BEST
Chapter 40: RED SUITS YOU BEST
While Hazel watched bullets embedded in their chasers’ bodies, Ranon took this moment to observe her.
There was no fear, only slightly surprised, because she didn’t expect this would be his plan all along. She wasn’t even scared when she saw blood and dead bodies, as if she had witnessed something like this countless times.
Who was this woman, actually?
Ranon was both intrigued and annoyed because Hazle didn’t want to explain where her weird behavior came from.
Or probably, she was always like this since the very beginning, but the rumor about her and all the casual information that he gathered had been wrong. Rumor could be wrong, so was his intelligence. It was indeed; you should know someone closely to say that you really knew them.
This conclusion explained some of Ranon’s curiosity, but it didn’t satisfy him.
Meanwhile, Hazel watched everything unfold and then ended gloriously with blood and bullets on the floor. It was a little messy, but Hazel assumed Ranon would have his own ’clean-up team.’ She didn’t ask him about it because he had been very curious how she knew a lot of things and her odd response to stressful situations.
"What now?" Hazel turned around only to find Ranon had been staring at her.
"I will take you home." He stretched out his hand and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. His movement was very casual.
"You should have let one man live so you could interrogate him." Hazel stared at the eight men that emerged from their hiding spots; they nodded politely at Ranon when he walked out of the car.
Ranon opened the door for Hazel and helped her to get off the car. He pointed at two men who were groaning in pain; the bullets hit their shoulders and legs, immobilizing them. "Those are alive."
"Oh." Hazel glanced at those two men. She didn’t recognize them. Well, there was no way she would recognize all the members of the Lozen assassins; there were so many of them, especially for the new recruits.
"Do you think they are sent by the Lozen organization?"
"I am not sure; we need to interrogate them."
Hazel followed Ranon. She thought he was going to get her into another car since the one they drove before had been shot. The tires were flat, and it would attract unnecessary attention to drive that battered car.
However, Ranon instead commanded his men to take their hostages and then gathered them at the other side of this building. He was going to interrogate them now.
"I don’t mean to be rude, but if it is possible, can you ask one of your men to drive me back home? I have a curfew." Hazel didn’t mind pissing Greyson off for being late, but she was not in the mood to watch this interrogation. Based on her experience, it would take a long time, and she wanted to skip the boring part.
If Ranon could get some information out of them, she would simply call him and then ask. She used to ask someone to do this messy part.
But Ranon had another idea.
"Come here."
Hazel raised both of her hands at him. "I am not doing that."
"Doing what?" Ranon narrowed his eyes.
"You are going to take me to watch the interrogation, right? No, I don’t want to do that."
Ranon crossed his arms now; it almost felt like he was facing a petulant child who refused to do what the adult told them to do. "And why not?"
"Because..." It’s boring. Hazel wanted to say that, but she couldn’t since it would sound wrong. "Because I am pregnant, remember? I shouldn’t see something gory. I should be happy so the baby is not stressful. What do you think the baby will feel if I see those scary scenes?" Hazel put her hand over her chest dramatically. "I shouldn’t have seen any of these."
Hearing that, Ranon didn’t say anything for a while, and when Hazel thought he needed more convincing, she was going to compromise, but then Ranon took her to one of his men’s cars and told her to get inside.
He approached one of his men and gave an instruction. After that, he walked back to the car and sat down behind the wheel.
"I am okay to drive alone, or you can ask one of your men to drive me back." She reminded him of her previous offer. "You will be busy with them."
"I will take you back home."
That was the only curt answer that Hazel got from him, but she didn’t protest. She was tired. On their way back, she rested her head against the window and stared at the empty road as Ranon was driving, listening to the music.
"Ah!" She sat up straight all of a sudden.
"What is it?" Ranon looked at her surprised expression, thinking she just remembered something important.
"I forgot my backpack in your car."
Ranon shifted his attention back to the road. "You don’t need that ugly bag."
"But my medicine is in there."
And now the man was annoyed. He made a call and asked one of his men to come and bring that stupid bag with the medicine inside. He drove slower now so his man could catch up with him.
"Do you read a book about pregnancy?" Ranon suddenly asked this out of the blue, which caught Hazel by surprise, but she answered his question anyway.
"Not a book; I read a few articles about pregnancies." She tilted her head to look at him. "Why?"
"It seems you know about pregnancy," he replied simply.
"Did you read some books?"
"No."
"You need to read some of the books. Seriously, as a father, you should know how women’s bodies change during pregnancy and also the video about women in labor." Hazel shuddered and then pressed the importance of this. "You need to read the books and see the videos."
"I don’t have time."
Hazel frowned. She was not going to be terrified alone, especially when she was the one who had to endure it. "I will send you the articles and the videos."
"I don’t have time."
This man could be very annoying. "At the very least, you should read a book on how to be a good father. You want this baby under your care after our divorce, right? I am not going to have my baby neglected." Hazel didn’t say that because she meant it but because she thought that was the right thing to say.
She alone was still unsure of how to take care of the baby or how she felt being a mother. It’s almost like a lifelong mission, yet she had no clue, nor did she have ample preparations.
"I will not neglect the baby." Ranon gave her a brief look, but for the rest of their drive, he ignored her persuasion to watch a video about women giving birth. She kept yapping about how scary it was.
Once they arrived at the Rose family house, another car approached them too, and this made Hazel tense up.
"That’s my man." Ranon then took the pink bag from his man and then walked her to her door. "Is your father home?"
"I don’t know. I am not sure."
Ranon nodded. "Get inside."
He didn’t leave until Hazel went inside and made a phone call to Greyson to make sure that man wouldn’t cause trouble for Hazel because she came home late. After that, he left to take care of the two men and continue the interrogation.

Hazel was woken up when a maid entered her room with a big parcel: she put it down on the table there.
"What is that?" Hazel asked between her yawn; she eyed the parcel and frowned. "Bring it here."
The maid brought the parcel to the bed. "Someone delivered this not so long ago; he only said that this is for you, Miss." She looked at Hazel, hesitantly, as if she were about to say something.
Renna was an old servant, around the age of sixty, in this house; she just returned from her townhouse. As far as Hazel remembered, the former Hazel was quite close with her. There was this shred of feeling that she saw her as a mother figure. After all, Renna had been around since Hazel was a babe, even before that.
"You can leave," Hazel said before Lenna could say anything. She just woke up and was not ready to hear any questions from her. She could guess that she really wanted to confirm about her pregnancy. "I am hungry. I want to eat something..."
Early this morning, Hazel woke up because she had the urge to vomit; her morning sickness really drained her. And after bending over the toilet for ten minutes, she finally felt a little bit better and then went to sleep.
Only now she woke up again and felt her stomach was churning.
"I will get you breakfast; do you want the usual?"
"Yes, please," Hazel replied without taking away her eyes from the parcel and shredded it into pieces so she could see what was inside.
It was a beautiful red bag. A red backpack.
Seeing this alone, Hazel didn’t need to use her brain to know who the sender was, and a small card on it confirmed that.
There was not much that was written there, only a simple sentence: Red suits you best.
That was all.
Reaching out for her phone, Hazel called Ranon, and the man picked it up almost right away.
