Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain -
Chapter 38: DINNER AT LEIGHTON FAMILY HOUSE
Chapter 38: DINNER AT LEIGHTON FAMILY HOUSE
Ema looked confused when she heard Hazel’s confession about her family, which only let her know she had assumed that she came to Ranon for his support in order to help her family.
To be honest, the Rose family could be burnt in fire, and she wouldn’t even have a shred of pity. They were nothing to her, and after the way they treated the real Hazel, she thought they deserved that kind of fate. She would call that karma.
Ema didn’t expect this answer and how their conversation turned out, so she couldn’t find a word for a moment while Hazel enjoyed her juice.
"You need to try this," Hazel said. "It moistens your skin, and it will be good for your digestion." Suggesting that Ema might be constipated.
Ema was not pleased with the way Hazel talked to her, but she was distracted when Hazel drank her drink; she used her left hand, where she showed off her ring on her ring finger, which obviously caught Ema’s attention. Seeing that, Hazel positioned the way she held her glass so her ring would glint under the lights.
"Nice ring," Ema commented through her gritted teeth. She was still smiling, though.
Only then did Hazel realize how this woman felt about this entire situation. All this time, she didn’t need to be worried, because Ranon had never been with anyone, and as far as Hazel knew, she was the first woman that Ranon introduced to the public.
With her being here in this house, it was enough proof that Ranon was serious with this relationship, and Ema was not happy about this.
Interesting.
"Yes, Ranon proposed to me." Hazel showed off the ring. "I asked a simple one, but he made a fuss and said that I deserved the world. The picture of us in the auction was a little bit of a hassle." Hazel shrugged her shoulders. "He said that’s how he showed his love for me to the world."
Ema was speechless when she heard that. She was sure that was not how Ranon usually behaved, but she was saved from giving a response because at that time, Ranon entered the room, pushing his father’s wheelchair.
Putting down her glass, Hazel smiled sweetly. This was interesting; she was curious to see how Ranon and Ema would interact with each other.
But to Hazel’s disappointment, Ranon ignored Ema most of the time and only responded to her if it was really necessary. But watching that woman was way more interesting because she kept glancing at Ranon every now and then when she thought her husband didn’t see her.
"So, you are Hazel Rose." Denzel scrutinized the young woman in front of him.
Denzel Leighton was an old man in his sixties, but whatever illness that he had right now surely had deteriorated his health rapidly. He looked like he was ninety instead. All the traces of his youth had gone; he looked exhausted.
If there was anything that resembled the former leader of the Leighton family, it must have been his eyes. His eyes were sharp and astute enough to put Hazel on alert. She looked at the man calmly, innocently.
"Good evening, Mr. Leighton," Hazel greeted him politely. "It’s a pleasure to see you."
Ranon secured the wheelchair beside the one-seater sofa where Ema was sitting and let that woman take care of him. Denzel had a blanket on his lap to keep him warm. His hair had turned grey, and his hairline had been pushed back.
She wondered how Ema could get aroused when she saw this sickly old man. But maybe seven years ago Denzel Leighton was like his son...
"I heard what happened." His eyes dripped like cold water. "You are pregnant."
Now Hazel could tell where Ranon got the attitude. Denzel Leighton was someone who didn’t like to beat around the bush and forgo the formality as he asked Hazel bluntly.
"Yes, I am. Eight to nine weeks now."
Ema widened her eyes; she looked at Hazel with shock that was etched on her face very clearly, but she immediately changed her expression again when Denzel looked at her.
"We shouldn’t go ahead with the wedding; there is a chance that the baby is not Ranon’s." Ema looked at Hazel apologetically. "I don’t mean to be rude, but you are not the first person who came with the same situation."
Hazel raised her brows at Ranon. "Have you impregnated another woman before?"
"Don’t be ridiculous." Ranon sat down next to her and kissed her cheek. "You are my first."
It took a while for Hazel to comprehend this, but her eyes widened in shock. She thought she heard it wrong. "What? Really?"
"Hm." Ranon slouched on the sofa, but his arm wrapped around her waist. He looked at her with a smirk on his lips. She couldn’t tell whether he was telling the truth or not. "You need to take responsibility for that."
Hazel blinked a few times and then laughed. She found this so funny. "Of course, that’s why I am going to marry you!" She said it happily, but Ema didn’t seem happy with it.
"How can you make a joke like that? Have you forgotten about Avery? She would be very sad if she heard this," Ema mentioned another woman’s name lightly as if she was only teasing Ranon, but the vibe was off since Ranon did not reciprocate it.
"Enough." Denzel put a stop to this; his eyes fixed on Hazel, and he didn’t look so pleased with her. "I will not accept your wedding unless there is evidence that the baby is Leighton’s."
"We agreed to have a DNA test next month," Hazel said calmly; they had talked about this.
"Good." Denzel nodded curtly, but still, he was an old soul and saw this as something wrong. Because this was not how things should go.
Well, it was kind of hypocritical of him when he went ahead and had a baby with his son’s girlfriend. How messed up were you for going after your son’s woman?
Thankfully, the tension lightened as the butler informed them that dinner was ready. They moved to the dining room. Ema pushed Denzel’s wheelchair while Hazel and Ranon walked behind them.
"Get rid of that ridiculous bag," Ranon frowned at her pink backpack that he carried.
Hazel laughed. "Why? That’s cute." She had planned to throw it away.
Ranon scrunched his nose when he heard that, but he didn’t say anything anymore; yet Hazel was too impatient to wait until it was only the two of them alone. She tiptoed and whispered in his ear. He was nice enough to bend his body slightly so she could reach his ear.
"Were you serious when you said I am your first?" She still hung on this. She wouldn’t mind if he lied since it was way more understandable.
"No, I am serious."
"Really?" Hazel blinked her eyes in disbelief. She was about to tiptoe again to whisper in his ear, but Ranon wouldn’t cooperate as he didn’t want to bend his body to accommodate her height.
Damn. What a pity. Hazel was not short, but it was Ranon’s fault to have a very tall body.
"Stop it," Ranon said; he put his hand on her waist to stop her attempt from whispering in his ear.
Meanwhile, walking ahead of them, Ema could hear their whispery conversation, and her grip on the wheelchair tightened. She felt very irritated and wanted this dinner to end quickly.
Thankfully, aside from the usual interaction and boring questions, Denzel didn’t make this dinner hard for Hazel, and Ema was exceptionally quiet during this time. She focused her attention on Denzel and helped him eat.
After that, Denzel excused himself to go back to his bedroom and remind them that he wanted the result of the DNA test.
And that was it, the end of their first dinner together.
"I thought your brothers would join?" Hazel asked; she turned on the music as Ranon revved the engine.
Ranon was not the type of person who was used to listening to music when he was driving, but he didn’t complain when he saw Hazel enjoyed it.
"Daniel is not feeling well, and Eilon is not at home; he is in his grandparents’ house," Ranon answered her question without looking at her.
"Are you close with both of your brothers?"
"Compared to the rest, I am close with Daniel."
It was understandable that he was not close with Eilon since the age gap was too big, and more so, who wouldn’t feel odd to interact with your half-sibling who was born from your ex?
"What about the sisters?" Hazel then added. "I only want to know how often I will interact with them since I am going to marry into your family."
Ranon didn’t answer her immediately; he glanced at her. "No, I am not close with them." Ranon glanced at the rearview mirror. "You don’t need to get close to them."
"Well, that’s a relief." Hazel glanced at the rearview mirror too.
For a moment they listened to the music, but then Hazel was tired of pretending that they didn’t notice this. She turned off the music and then pointed out the obvious.
"We are being followed," she stated; it was not a question, but the truth.
"I am aware." Ranon glanced at her; he was surprised that she knew that they were being followed, but at the same time, he expected it. "Don’t worry, they will not do anything once you reach your home."
"I am not worried," Hazel said calmly.
