Chapter 35: A DATE, KIND OF...

The news about Ranon Leighton and Hazel Rose made it to headline news, and the picture of Ranon kissing Rose’s hand was everywhere.

"Do you like it?" Ranon asked when Hazel called him to inform him about the news, which she should know that he must have been well informed about.

But it seemed Hazel was simply very idle, and because she had no friends, Ranon was the only person that was close to one.

"Absolutely not." Hazel grimaced to see her expression on the news. In the picture, she was scrunching her nose. Seriously, they didn’t make an effort to photograph her from her good angle. "I look hideous."

"I thought you wanted romance. I romanced you, didn’t I?"

"That’s overkill," Hazel complained. "And cheesy."

"You complained too much; that’s not good for our marriage."

"We are getting a divorce in a year anyway. I guess our personalities don’t click." Hazel shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly.

"Where are you?" Ranon asked all of a sudden.

Hazel looked around. "Campus." She had to come for exams, and despite missing a few classes, she was confident the result wouldn’t be so bad. The real Hazel had read a lot of books and memorized most of them, which was amazing.

"I will be there in an hour," Ranon said lightly, and he could hear her gasp.

"What? No, what are you doing here? If you want to meet me, tell me the location; I will be there."

Ranon was flipping the report mindlessly as he just finished a meeting when Hazel called him. Usually, he didn’t pick up any random calls and chat idly like this, but somehow, he did. She was going to be his future wife anyway, so she was not a random person. That was how he justified his action.

"Why? Do you still have class? Or you don’t want to be seen with me in public?"

"Bro, I save your life." Hazel then told him about how the reaction of the women here was as they suddenly looked at her with hostility, and needless to say, she became the hot topic for the entire university. Not to mention she was cornered by three women who interrogated her about the picture. "You have been warned. Value your life, and don’t come here."

Ranon chuckled when he heard the way Hazel described the situation there. "Should I put bodyguards for you?" He had been thinking about this for a while.

"Nah, there is no need for that." She was more than enough to protect herself.

"Fine." No, Ranon was going to assign two bodyguards for her. "I will be there in an hour."

"Hey, did you even listen to what I told you?" Hazel frowned, but the line had been cut off, which meant he was coming in an hour. "Suit yourself."

Right now, Hazel was hiding inside a library like a good student, sitting in the balcony, so she could make a call to Ranon. After all, those jealous women couldn’t ambush and corner her here. She wondered what they would think if they knew that she was pregnant with Ranon’s baby.

And in less than an hour, Ranon called her again. Hazel was still in the library, leaning over on the table and using her arms as pillows to sleep.

She woke up groggily when she felt the vibration from her phone. "What?"

"Come out; I am in the south gate of your campus," Ranon said lightly.

"What? That’s too far. Go back to the north gate."

"No, I have parked the car."

"Then backing up."

"Where are you?"

Hazel was a little bit disoriented; she stretched her body and then yawned when she answered him. "Library."

"Okay. I will be there."

"No way, I will go there." Hazel was annoyed. "I can’t believe it; you are asking a pregnant lady to walk such a distance." This morning, she started her morning sickness, and that was... awful to say the least. She read about it, and the symptoms could last for months. She dreaded the thought of vomiting every morning for months.

"Walking is good. I read that."

"The book lied to you." Hazel heard the engine. "Are you reversing?"

"Yeah, can’t make a pregnant lady walk such a distance."

Hearing that, Hazel laughed. She didn’t know why, but it was silly and petty, yet it was funny at the same time.

They met at the north gate, and Hazel immediately plopped inside the car, sitting next to him and throwing her backpack to the backseat. The backpack was ugly; that was not her style.

"Hello, there. Not hard to find a parking spot here, right?" Hazel winked at him. This was the first time they met after the auction a week ago, but she would occasionally call him. Though he had never taken the initiative, he would always pick up her calls even if he was in the middle of a meeting.

"Hungry?"

"Starving." Hazel yawned. "I think I start my morning sickness." She shuddered. "That’s awful."

"We will go to the hospital to have you checked after lunch."

"Okay. Let’s go to the Imperial Restaurant. I want their lamb chop."

Ranon glanced at her. "You ate four portions of lamb chop the last time you were there." He remembered that part because it amazed him and also because he thought she was being starved, but as it turned out, she was simply a glutton.

"You said it as if it’s a bad thing. I am eating for two, remember?"

And with that, they went to the Imperial Restaurant, and Ranon let her order whatever she wanted. This little thing was important for their pretension, a date here and there, and let those reporters snap a picture or a dozen of them. It wouldn’t make the announcement of their wedding very shocking.

After Hazel ate and Ranon enjoyed his coffee, they went to the hospital. This time, they were being a little bit sneaky; Ranon drove the car to the basement and let someone else drive this car while they used another one.

It would be best if no one knew they were married because Hazel was pregnant, especially if they were going to get a divorce within a year.

"Where are we going now?" Hazel tossed the medicine that she got to the backseat. "Are we going home? Or will we have dinner first?" She looked at the dark sky outside. It was almost time for dinner.

"We will have dinner first."

"Okay." Hazel was fine with it. "Let’s go to the Imperial Rest..."

"No, we will have dinner in my house. My family wanted to see you."

"What?" Hazel widened her eyes. "You should have told me a month in advance before you ambushed me like this!"

Oh, crap. She didn’t like to meet with her future in-laws... if the rumor was true... Damn. She should have looked into his family more, digging deeper into their history.

***

Aubrey had been very upset because they didn’t get the ring. She really wanted it as her wedding ring, but that woman got it, and now she had to see her stupid face all over the news.

Hazel Rose.

That name became very popular recently because she apparently had a relationship with Ranon Leighton. People had been very curious to know how long they had been in this relationship, since Ranon Leighton had never been seen with any women before this.

They speculated that was the reason why Ranon Leighton had never been with any women, because he secretly had been in a relationship with Hazel Rose; but then, it was only a speculation.

"Stop making that face; you make it hard to digest my food," Elise reprimanded Aubrey as they were having breakfast together, only the two of them.

"I am done," Aubrey said; she pushed her half-eaten food and stood up. "Where is Father, Mom?"

Elise was still eating her salad gracefully. She looked so beautiful even when she just woke up. "I don’t know. Last time I checked, he was not in my purse."

It was Aubrey’s fault for even asking her this question. In the end, she went to Arthur’s study room, but she couldn’t find him there.

She asked the servants, and they said her father had gone since this morning, but no one knew where he was.

Frustrated, Aubrey decided to call Arlo, but he didn’t pick up her call. This man also had frustrated her lately. He had been hot and cold with her. He was being affectionate one day, but he would ignore her for a few days.

Not knowing what to do, Aubrey decided to go over to his house, but instead of Arlo, she met with Michael, his younger brother.

"If you are looking for Arlo, he is not at home." Michael blocked the door. He crossed his arms and stared down at Aubrey. "I don’t believe it; Arlo is so stupid to leave River for you." His eyes traced down her body and stopped at her stomach, which made Aubrey self-conscious. "You are even pregnant with his child. Poor River to have a sister like you and poor me to have a stupid brother like Arlo."

"Watch what you say; I am going to tell him that you insult me." Aubrey’s eyes dimmed; she was already upset with the way Arlo ignored her; she didn’t need this man to irk her even more.

However, Michael laughed loudly in her face, which made Aubrey tempted to punch his face.

"Oh, Aubrey. I bet my brother has already regretted his action. He loves River so much he is only being a fool right now."
