Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain -
Chapter 32: THE ASPEN BRIDGE AT NIGHT
Chapter 32: THE ASPEN BRIDGE AT NIGHT
Aubrey didn’t even realize whose table it was until she saw the name tag on the table. Leighton and Rose. This woman who was talking to her brazenly came from the Rose family.
If that was the case, then...
"Are you Hazel Rose?" Aubrey narrowed her eyes.
"I am flattered you know my name." Well, it’s more because of the fact that Aubrey didn’t seem to pay attention to anything related to their father’s underground business. She was ignorant in that case.
"The Rose family only has one daughter unless there is a secret daughter that the public doesn’t know."
"Don’t worry, my father is very loyal to my late mother." Hazel smiled sweetly at her. She had to give credit for Greyson’s loyalty in this case. "My father is a little bit harsh on the edges, but he is someone with integrity, because only a great man knows what loyalty is. Ah, even after my mother died years ago, he is still loyal to her. I don’t understand people who cheat on their partner. In my opinion, they are a piece of trash, especially those people who are so willing to be a side chick; they are not even better than poops, don’t you think?"
Aubrey’s face turned darker; she was livid by what Hazel said, but she couldn’t show it on her face.
She felt like Hazel intentionally attacked her, as if she knew. But it was not possible; it must be because she was overthinking the situation, and because of the pregnancy, she became oversensitive.
"So, there is no way I eyed your man," Hazel said softly and then added in a low voice. "My man is better. At least, he has never cheated."
"What do you mean with that?!" Aubrey clenched her fists. She couldn’t get rid of the thought that Hazel knew, but how could that be possible?
"No offense." Hazel raised both of her arms in a defensive gesture. "I mean, Ranon has never been in a rumor with any other women."
"Do you think my man is a cheater?" Aubrey couldn’t understand why she even had this argumentation with Hazel. Things escalated too fast, and she couldn’t control her emotions. Whatever Hazel said, she felt like there was another meaning behind it.
"No. I am sure he is not. He is very loyal to you; I can see it." Hazel looked cheerful when she said that and then nodded at someone behind Aubrey. "See? He is worried about you; he is coming here."
Aubrey turned around and saw Arlo walking towards them with a frown between his eyes.
"What’s going on here?" he asked once he reached their table.
"Nothing." Aubrey shook her head and then stood up. She wanted to leave right away. The way Hazel was talking about it almost felt like River was mocking her secretly. Her choice of words was odd. "Let’s go back to our table."
Arlo stared at Hazel. He recognized her as the girl that he met in the restaurant the other day, but he also knew that she was a part of the Rose family, though he couldn’t find any relation between her and the Leighton family.
While the Lozen and the Leighton didn’t have any cooperation, the Barlowe and the Leighton did have a cooperation in this Aspen City.
"Let’s go," Aubrey said hastily when Arlo stared at Hazel. She didn’t want to be ridiculous, but she didn’t like the way they stared at each other. She felt like this woman could snatch Arlo anytime, which was ridiculous.
Hazel gave them a little wave when they returned to their own table. But once she turned her body slightly and her expression was not visible for them to see, her brown eyes darkened, and her hands were trembling as she held back her anger and resentment.
"Are you okay?" Valerie asked; she approached Hazel and sat down in her seat. She brought two plates of cakes, but Hazel only grabbed a flute of champagne from the server.
"I am perfect," Hazel replied.
Not long after, Lucian joined them, and they talked about random things, though sometimes Lucian and Valerie would make small talk with a few people that came to approach them, leaving Hazel alone, which she didn’t mind at all. She liked to be left alone when her mind was in a mess.
"I will go to the bathroom," Hazel said when Valerie returned.
"Don’t take too long; we are going to move to the second hall. The main event will be held in a few minutes."
Velerie was a few years older than Hazel, but obviously, she was younger than River. Thus, the way she treated her as if she was a lost kid that needed to be under supervision was rather adorable in Hazel’s eyes.
She must have heard about the quiet daughter from the Rose family. The way Hazel was fidgeting the whole time because she was holding back her emotion didn’t help at all, because Valerie thought she was nervous with the presence of a lot of people and Ranon was still not there yet.
"Okay," Hazel replied, and then went to the washroom. She didn’t need to ask; she knew this place; she had come here a few times for different occasions.
Inside the washroom, she took a pee, pooped, and touched up her makeup. Once she was done, there he was, already waiting for her in front of the washroom.
Arthur Lozen.
He was not only a father but also a teacher and a boss for River; she knew him so well, which allowed her to know how to get on his nerves, and he took the bait.
"Who are you?" Arthur asked.
Straightforward like usual.
"Pardon me?" Hazel looked innocent when she stopped walking away from him. "I am Hazel Rose."
Arthur clicked his tongue impatiently; he shook his head. "Don’t try to act naïve. I know that you have been looking at me. What do you want?"
"I am sorry, but I don’t understand what you mean. Ah." Hazel feigned a surprise, as if she just remembered something important. "You must be the man at the same table with the woman who approached me earlier."
"She is my daughter."
"Hmm." Hazel nodded. "She accused me of staring at his man."
"I know that you were not staring at Arlo. You looked at me."
Hazel had to say that she was impressed by how confident her father was. It could sound very wrong if someone else heard their conversation.
"Is there something you want to say to me?"
One thing about her father: he was relentless and persistent.
Hazel took a deep breath; she thought she had prepared herself for this moment, but her hands were still shaking. She was going to talk directly to her father, and he didn’t even know it was her.
"Have we met before?"
Hazel turned around and looked her father in the eyes. He looked the same as the last time she saw him. From the look of it, her disappearance didn’t really bother him.
"I don’t think so. I don’t go out very often," Hazel said. She was grateful that her voice was not shaking. "I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else."
"You lured me here."
Now, she felt her father was very confident with his observation, but then he was right. She indeed lured him here.
"Why should I do that?"
Arthur glared at Hazel for a moment before he waved his hand, as if he was dismissing something that bothered his sight.
"Never mind," he said before he turned around and was about to leave, but what Hazel said next stopped him in his tracks.
"I have never been in Aspen City before, but I heard Aspen Bridge is very beautiful during the night."
Arthur turned around and squinted his eyes at Hazel; he waited for what she was going to say next, but someone suddenly grabbed Hazel’s hand, which made her yelp and take a defensive stance until she realized it was Ranon.
"What are you doing here?" Ranon asked. He looked impeccable like always. His sharp jaw, his thin lips, and his sharp eyes. He was so gorgeous to the point that Hazel forgot what she was going to say to Arthur.
Never mind; she couldn’t say it anyway with him here.
"The event started five minutes ago, but you have not yet returned." Ranon arrived only a minute after Hazel went to the washroom, but after ten minutes of waiting and she had not yet returned, he decided to look for her here, just in case she got lost.
"Oh, right... I..." Hazel snapped back from that attractive face that was so close to her. He even looked more astounding in his formal attire.
However, Ranon was not looking at her; he was staring at Arthur, who was standing not too far from them. They knew each other, obviously. The Leighton won a tender over the Lozen not so long ago, and her father was very irritated because of that.
"Mr. Leighton," Arthur greeted Ranon rigidly. He seemed to be upset because his conversation with Hazel was cut short.
"Mr. Lozen." Ranon reciprocated the greeting, but neither of them continued with the conversation, as Arthur walked away from them, and Ranon stared at his retreating back before he shifted his attention back to Hazel. "I heard you drank a champagne."
Hazel blinked her eyes. Oh. She forgot she was pregnant. Valerie didn’t know that; that’s why she didn’t try to stop her, and Lucien was not there.
"We are going to the hospital."
"Let’s go after the event."
"No."
Ranon was being stern.
