Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain -
Chapter 30: FUCK OFF!
Chapter 30: FUCK OFF!
"What did you say to my father?" Hazel asked Ranon through the phone. She was typing mindlessly on her laptop while lying down on her sofa.
"Did he treat you well?" Ranon asked from the other end of the phone. He was on his way home with his driver. He came home late as usual. It was close to midnight.
He had no one who was waiting for him, and his empty, quiet apartment would be the only thing that greeted him when he arrived.
"He ignored me most of the time and glared at me when I was within his line of sight as if I just stepped on his toes." Hazel shrugged her shoulders. "But, no slaps, no yelling, and no hitting, so I think I can say overall things are good. Whatever you said, it worked."
Ranon didn’t say anything, but he was smiling when he heard that. He actually didn’t say much; a little bit of a threat was enough since Greyson must have learned about what his first son had done.
Greyson Rose could agree with him, or he could go against him. He would still gain some benefit and dignity from the former, or he could live in misery and ruin his reputation if he chose the latter.
"Where are you?" Hazel asked curiously. "Are you outside? Going somewhere?"
"I am on the way home," Ranon replied. Their conversation was easy, trivial, and relaxing, but he enjoyed it, and it surprised him. Aside from Ares and Lucian, he didn’t enjoy talking to other people.
However, it could be because most of them were his business partners; they would talk about business and strategies for hours to no end. There wouldn’t be this random conversation like he had with Hazel.
And shockingly, he didn’t think talking with her was wasting his time.
"From the office?"
"Hm."
"Are you alone?"
"With a driver." The questions were out of the blue, but Ranon answered her anyway. He stared at the night outside. "Why?"
"You do know that one of your family members would be the target of the Lozan family, including you." Even though Hazel didn’t know who would be the target. That jerk, Arlo, had closed all the access. "A driver is not enough."
"Why? Are you worried about me?"
Hazel could imagine him smirking. His voice was a little bit heavier than usual. "Not really, but I don’t want my baby to be fatherless."
And she heard a laugh from him. His laugh was nice. You know, when someone had a very manly voice, it was hoarse, heavy, and strangely attractive. Even without seeing the person, you could tell how gorgeous the other person was by only hearing their voice. Ranon was a man like that. His voice could give you an eargasm...
Hazel rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue to make herself stop thinking of him in that way.
"I am serious," she said, typing something. "Have you forgotten that the Leighton family is the target? You need at least some bodyguards around you. Four to six, if I can suggest."
"I will put six bodyguards for you."
"We are talking about you, not me." Hazel read an article and then skipped it because it didn’t contain the information that she needed. "I don’t need a bodyguard." She could handle anyone that came to her just fine.
"You are the one who needs it the most. Once people know that you will be my future wife, whoever comes after me will come after you too." Ranon really considered it right now; he didn’t think about it before. "Your life will be in danger." Now, he truly made an arrangement in his mind.
Only if he knew, River’s life had always been in danger ever since she was born...
Hazel wanted to laugh at that, but she pressed her lips so she wouldn’t make any sound. "I will be fine. Don’t worry too much and get home safely. I want to sleep."
And after that, Hazel cut the connection before Ranon could respond. The man stared at his cellphone and then put it away; he took his laptop and started working again. He had nothing better to do in his free time, aside from working. Working out his anger...
Lucian would have gone to a club or two in his free time, and Ares would enjoy it by reading a few books or binge-watching movies or paintings since he enjoyed art. He had his own community and met with them often, but Ranon chose to be by himself.
He didn’t really interact with people unless it was necessary.
And finally, the day of the event was there. Ranon sent a stunning red dress, jewelry that matched the dress, a pair of high heels, and a chauffeur for Hazel.
Greyson and Dylan said nothing about it; they chose not to talk about what happened. Greyson didn’t even scold Hazel when they returned.
"Money can’t buy taste," Logan commented when he saw Hazel walking out of her bedroom in her red dress.
The dress hugged her body perfectly; it was in an A shape and it reached her knees. The dress was sleeveless, but as it was summer, she didn’t need an outer. The dress did not really reveal anything, but it accentuated her curves, and Hazel was pleased that at the very least, she had a nice pair of breasts and a nice butt.
"Good confession," Hazel replied. She walked towards the car that had been waiting for her; the chauffeur was an old man with hair that had turned very grey, which was combed slickly.
Logan jogged beside Hazel; he was not happy with her reply. "I mean, the dress looks so bad on you."
"Do you think it will look good on you? I will ask Ranon if I can lend you the dress after the party." Hazel smirked when she saw how upset Logan’s expression was, and after that, she went into the car. She was ready for the event.
Hazel actually didn’t really care about the event; all she cared about the most was the fact that Arthur and Elise would be there too. Not only the two of them, but also Arlo and Aubrey, would also be there.
If she was right, then Aubrey and Arlo would use this event to make their first public appearance. In public, the Lozen family was specialized in transportation, while the Barlowe enrolled in IT. The media knew about Aubrey, while the older daughter was like a shadow of her younger sister, since she had been living in the dark. She worked in the dark. Nobody really paid attention to River’s existence, unless you were in their circle.
As River, that lack of attention worked well for her.
"Fuck off!" Logan glowered at Hazel right before the chauffeur closed the car door. He stood there and glared at the black car that drove away.
He couldn’t understand what happened when Greyson and Dylan took Hazel back, because they didn’t do whatever Logan had expected them to do to Hazel.
They let her off so easily. They didn’t even talk about it. Though Logan assumed this was what Greyson and Dylan wanted to happen, having a connection with the Leighton family, the two of them didn’t look happy.
Meanwhile, inside the car, Hazel spent her time calming herself down. She was going to meet the four people from her previous life. She knew about this in advance and wouldn’t be caught off guard again.
Based on that, Hazel felt she could handle it better than her first encounter with Arlo and Aubrey a few weeks ago.
Her phone rang, and it was Ranon.
"I will be a little bit late, but I have confirmed your attendance."
"How long will you be late?"
"Half an hour. Lucian will be there with his date; you can be with them for the meantime."
Right now, Ranon was with Ares, taking care of an unexpected problem from the factory in Aspen City. Someone set fire to one of their shipping containers, causing a few goods to be burned.
"Okay."
Hazel was left alone because their partner was late, and the same thing happened to Arthur. Elise was being difficult because her dress was not the same shade as her blue necklace.
"That’s blue, Elise," Arthur said with exasperation.
"It’s not the same. It’s blue sky, and this is ocean blue."
"Still blue."
Elise raised her arms, angry because Arthur couldn’t understand her frustration; she grumbled about being late.
"We will not be late if we are leaving right now."
Yet, Elise didn’t listen to him and then continued to complain to the point that Arthur decided to go alone because he needed to meet with some people before the event started. Elise didn’t care. She only cared about getting the right necklace.
On the way to the event, Arthur forgot something, and he immediately called someone, but the other person didn’t pick up his call until he realized she had been missing.
"Is there anything wrong, sir?" the driver asked when he heard Arthur sigh and saw his expression from the rearview mirror.
"No. Nothing." Arthur shook his head.
It became his habit to call for River first every time he needed something or he wanted to ask about some matters that they were handling.
And now, without her here for almost two months, Arthur felt desperate. There was a time he was so angry that he thought he might beat River if she finally made her appearance, but there was also a time when he thought he only wanted her here within his sight.
