Unexpected Marriage With Mr. Leighton: Rebirth of the Villain -
Chapter 26: THE CONDITIONS
Chapter 26: THE CONDITIONS
"Ranon. This is a trap, and you know that." Ares still insisted that Ranon ask Hazel to abort the baby. The problem would be done right there and then. Maintaining any relationships with the Rose family only spelled trouble. "That’s the best way to go with this problem."
"I agreed with Ares. I know that she is also the victim, but her tone changed drastically from the last time you told us. Something must have happened, and I don’t think it’s wise to tie the knot with her."
Lucian was driving while Ares was sitting next to him; Ranon sat on the backseat, staring at the city lights. The sky was dark out there, and from the look of it, it would be raining tonight.
"I like her, but we still don’t know her. The information that we got about her doesn’t fit in when we meet that woman in reality. She is nothing like a quiet girl who is terrified of everything." Ares remembered how relaxed she was when she was having a conversation with Lucian.
From the information that they had gathered, Hazel was a shy girl who didn’t have a friend. She used to be bullied by her peers and was overshadowed by her brothers.
Yet, the girl that they met last night was not like that. You could see from the way she carried herself. She was full of confidence.
"I remember asking you to bring me the car, not to drive me back," Ranon said coldly.
Lucian and Ares went silent for a while before they came up with a lot of excuses. But in the end, when they arrived, Ranon didn’t allow them to come.
"Leave the car," he said.
"But how can we go back to our hotel?" Lucian protested. "You have four bedrooms there."
Ranon said nothing and went to the elevator after he took the car key from Lucian, leaving the two of them in the lobby.
"He is too much," Lucian grumbled.
Meanwhile, Ranon was thinking of the best solution for this matter, but he was still not sure about his decision. Things escalated too fast.
But when he opened the door, a delicious aroma greeted him from the kitchen, and he heard Hazel’s voice; she was singing while cooking.
She texted him this afternoon to have dinner with her and return before eight, yet Ranon didn’t reply to the text. Still, she cooked for him.
"Hi!" she greeted him when she sensed his presence. "Sit, sit. I will be done in a few minutes." Hazel gave Ranon her best smile.
In her spare time, aside from browsing about pregnancy, she also browsed about how to get a man’s attention. With Arlo, she didn’t need to do that, because they had known each other since they were little, but with Ranon, she needed a different approach.
"I will change my clothes," Ranon said.
"Okay."
Ranon felt weird because someone was waiting for him. It had been a while since he had someone in his personal space.
Once he changed into his casual shirt, the dinner was ready, and Hazel was sitting opposite him. There were three main courses on the table.
"I watched your interviews, and you said you liked prawn in one of them." Hazel put a lot of effort into this. She was not a good cook, but at least Arlo had said that her food was edible enough; he actually enjoyed it.
"I have never said that."
"Well, it was Lucian who said that in the interview." His lawyer was making small talk, and because Ranon didn’t answer that simple question, it was Lucian who replied to the question.
"You are allergic to prawns," Ranon stated, and this surprised Hazel that he knew.
"But you like it." Hazel leaned over to see Ranon’s reaction when he bit the prawn. "How is it?"
"Good," he replied curtly and continued to eat.
"Great." Hazel then picked up her cutleries and ate as well. It was quiet. They didn’t talk at all, as if there was a tacit understanding between them.
And once they were done, Ranon told her to follow him to the balcony. He took out his cigarette.
"You know that I am pregnant, right?" Hazel nodded at his cigarette. She didn’t know that he smoked, but it was not relevant, since she didn’t care much about Ranon until recently.
Ranon then put away his cigarette; seemingly, he indeed forgot about that fact.
"So, what is your proposal?" Ranon asked; he leaned his back against the railing of the balcony, having his back against the beautiful city lights, while Hazel relished the sight of it. She always liked city lights like this. The sky was so dark; it seemed it was going to rain later.
"I have said before. I don’t want the baby to be born out of wedlock. I am an old soul if you ask me why." No. She was not an old soul. She was a free spirit. But she needed this one year to finish her revenge. "After that, we can get a divorce. As simple as that."
"What other condition?" A year of marriage didn’t seem too hard.
Hazel thought about it for a while. Well, she had a list for it, but she needed to be seen as not so eager... "I don’t want to go back to my house. I want a house to ourselves, so no one can bother us." She didn’t want unnecessary people around her because it would limit her movement.
"Anything else?" Ranon asked; he touched his lips. He really wanted to smoke. He always smoked more often whenever he had a lot to think about.
Hazel shrugged her shoulders. "Well, I have told you about this before, but I want my father’s company share."
"I can’t help you with that. That’s something you need to take care of by yourself."
"No. I don’t mean it in that way. I only need your support. I am going to do it on my own." Hazel tilted her head. "What is your condition?"
