Under the vampire Lord's protection
Chapter 212: A threat?

Chapter 212: A threat?

Silas’ muscles abided by the defensive position they’d initially assumed, his eyes darting all around in front of himself, thoroughly searching for he who ran towards them at such a high speed.

From the body odor he exuded, the vampire was adamant the individual was male, bore wolven heritage, but from the sound of their steps alone, it was clear he carried a lot less weight than a standard full adult.

Realizing the potential attacker drew nearer from the eastern side, Silas’ arm rose as a shield between Arabella and that way.

It took seconds before his keen diamonds spotted suspicious movement among the tall trees surrounding their property.

When he finally locked their visuals down, Silas noticed a dark tuft of hair on the humanoid body, skipping behind trunks and approaching the two of them at an alarmingly rapid rate.

Although the vampire made nothing of it until the creature exited the forest, thus becoming completely exposed.

It was when a gasp escaped Arabella that he finally decided to act, flashing full speed at them before the actions of both opposing sides culminated in a violent collision.

Silas’ hand fiercely hooked around the boy’s throat, lifted his small body up with terrifying ease to kill his momentum then stapled his back flat against the ground.

The little creature growled, clawing at Silas’ skin with all of his might, but to no avail. His claws still in development, had not the sliver of a chance to harm the vampire.

"Who sent you? What is your business on this property?" the ice that had always encumbered Silas’ voice returned strong as he stared the boy down with cold, empty eyes.

In response, he only grunted and thrashed harder under the vampire’s hold, beating the ground beneath him with every limb to a pulp all the while, Silas barely even moved. Seemingly calm as a millpond, no amount of struggling and protesting fazed him at all.

"No! Wait, please, don’t hurt him!" it was Arabella’s voice that finally convinced Silas to glare at something other than the child.

"He is a threat," his diamonds fell back on the wolf kid, "And therefore must be treated as one,"

"No, he isn’t!" Arabella clasped her hands over her mouth upon noting the glower that Silas gave her, "At least, I don’t think he is," she’d simmered down, the energy with which her first statement had gotten out quickly dissipating.

"How would you know that?"

"His name is Remus," she cleared her throat time and time again, but the brittleness her vocal cords so desperately tried to shake off persisted, "He is Alpha Cynric’s son,"

Although, her intervention did not bring the intended effect. Indeed, the manner in which Silas’ hand tightened around Remus’ throat was visible even to the human eyes, but had that not been enough, the child’s growls that turned to whimpers were proof enough. He squirmed harder in the vampire’s grip as his eyes began to roll back into his head.

"That is more of a reason to worry," Silas held in place momentarily before adding, "Look away," he ordered her.

Those words announced the colors of his intentions loudly and clearly after what, Arabella had a second to react and she made the most of it.

The young woman threw herself onto Silas’ arm and cried, "No! Please! Don’t do it!"

Despite her screams resounding all around them, her pleas seemed to fall on deaf ears.

Arabella watched, tugging pointlessly at that ghoulish hand wrapped around the fragile looking neck holding Remus’ head and body together.

As his face was consumed by a chilling shade of blue that did not belong on a living body, the young woman shut her eyes and buried her face in Silas’ arm before shrieking in the strongest, most determinate tone since the start of her pleadings, "Please, don’t kill him! I’ll never forgive you if you kill him!"

That seemed to rattle something in Silas. Even though his hand remained around the boy’s throat, the latter’s breaths became longer and deeper as that nasty cold color spreading underneath his skin began to retreat.

"He is dangerous," without looking at her, he stated.

"No, he isn’t," her sniveling muffled, she rubbed her face against his arm while shaking her head from left to right, "Just don’t kill him, please," her entire body quivered as that sharp tone Arabella had used to lay her ultimatum was no more.

"There is no way for us to know that,"

At those words, she finally dug her nose up to look at him, but Silas never once glanced back and instead remained focused on Remus.

"Can you tell if others are coming our way?" she asked meekly.

The vampire scanned their surroundings once before declaring, "No, he’s come alone,"

"Well, there is a possibility they used witchcraft to conceal their presence, perhaps we can move to a safer place so that we can talk to him and understand-"

Silas cut her off at once, "There is nothing to understand! This boy isn’t coming anywhere near the manor,"

"He already is near the manor!" although still weak, her pitch rose to take on that same imploring tone, "I am sure there is a way for us to... Interrogate him without putting our guard down, but please just don’t hurt him,"

"Do you suggest I allow him under our roof?" he’d phrased it as a question, but his hardened demeanor told it was anything but that.

"I just want a chance to understand what would bring a child to separate from his family and run onto foreign territories the way he did," by then, she was done waiting for him to look at her and instead released his arm and knelt beside him, leaning forward in the hopes of meeting the vampire’s gaze.

"If he tries anything!" Silas gave Remus a sudden, rough but short-lived push against the ground, "Anything at all! I will hear no further pleadings!" his eyes soldered on the boy’s Irises, blinking not once as though the uninterrupted connection would hammer those threats home more efficiently.
