“There are more here than I had expected,” Wekime said as he watched the line of gods moving toward the room with the watchers. “How long has it been since such a thing occurred?”

Hogroothu said nothing for a moment, his sight set upon the dozen gods still waiting to enter, each shrouded in a cloak that hid their presence.

“Ages… this one has stirred up the game in a way I hadn’t imagined possible in so long. We both know why it has happened. That fool of a youngling tried to kill him.”

The tiniest of grins made Wekime’s lips curl as he nodded.

“She will suffer much. I have heard reports that some of her worlds are already in ruins. Everyone knows that to appear weak is to invite others to challenge you and the punishment told to all has left no doubt about how weak she has become.

“Part of me wonders if she will still be around by the time they finish the tower.”

Purple swirling eyes brightened as the god of the void made a sound that Wekime knew was a laugh. “The irony of that would not be lost on all. Perhaps we shall see if others snuff her out or leave the pieces for him to get vengeance. Still, I am intrigued by how many have come, swinging the balance of rewards or limitations to that man and his group.”

Tapping a talon to his chin, Wekime considered some of the moves some had already made. He had sensed the presence of another one of the nine but did not know who it was. They had masked their identity with one of those cloaks and the power they knew how to use. Still, he knew it had to have been one of them that made the items on the 81st tower floor be hidden.

“This game gets better every moment. For so long, I have been bored. Tell me, Wekime, do you believe he is worth it?”

Nodding slowly, the god of dragons and one of the original nine didn’t hide his smile.

“This game has yet to truly begin. We are in the early stages of setting the board. Soon we shall play a game that may change everything.”

Once more, Hogroothu’s eyes brightened. “May we find amusement in the destruction of so many.”
