Chapter 582: Chapter 559: Sky-mending Plan
In a daze, there’s an unsettling feeling, a constant suspicion that we’ve fallen into Yuri’s trap.
When Gao Yi returned to the safe house, leaving Yuri behind and free of his influence, his mind seemed to clear up a bit.
No, something’s not right!
Lin Xianghua’s objective is the independence of Liuqiu, not wiping Ben off the face of the earth.
Furthermore, achieving Liuqiu’s independence doesn’t mean turning Liuqiu into Ben’s mortal enemy.
Additionally, Inner Five Permanent can only exist with the tacit approval and support of the Five Permanent. If Yuri’s plan were truly carried out, Ben’s destruction remains uncertain, but its economy would undoubtedly collapse.
This is a nation-ending strike, an unprecedented disaster in human history. Ben holds a significant position in today’s international trade system, serving as a critical link.
If Ben suffers, the global economy is affected. But that’s secondary. The real concern is: who could tolerate a nation-ending organization operating right under their noses?
So, what to do?
How can you execute a nation-ending strike without becoming the world’s enemy?
Indeed, at this point, Gao Yi hasn’t abandoned his plan.
Things have progressed this far; suddenly calling it off is out of the question.
Gao Yi is pondering how to finish the job and walk away cleanly, how to retreat with accolades and avoid global backlash. Neglecting the consequences isn’t his style.
What to do?
Support, of course.
To gain the backing of the world’s Five Permanent nations, he must figure out what they desire.
For Northeastern University, no reason is necessary.
The United States occupies Ben, and the crops grown in Ben are destined for harvesting by the U.S. Acting impulsively, the biggest threat would come from the U.S. So, securing the U.S.’s approval comes first.
Gao Yi picked up the phone and called Panetta.
"It’s me. I’m in Ben. I’m about to launch an unprecedented operation, and I need the U.S.’s endorsement."
"What kind of operation?"
Panetta was clearly unsure what Gao Yi meant by "unprecedented," as something that’s never occurred doesn’t necessarily equate to significance.
In a quiet tone, Gao Yi said, "First, I’ll burn the Divine Toilet, then I’ll nuke Mount Fuji."
"What the fuck..."
Panetta, understandably shaken, let out a curse and then asked in disbelief, "Have you lost your mind?"
"I’m not crazy, the Russians are. Right now, I’m simply wondering how I can make this work in America’s favor. In other words, what do you think I should do to gain Donald’s approval—or even his support?"
Panetta fell silent for a moment. During the pause, Gao Yi said nothing, didn’t push.
Finally, Panetta spoke in a low voice, "Industrial relocation. Perhaps from that angle, it could convince the President. Additionally, if Ben faces an insurmountable crisis, perhaps we..."
"You could move Ben’s industries to America. When Ben needs America’s protection, you stand to gain immensely, don’t you think? Or, could a complete financial collapse enable America to harvest Ben?"
Panetta remarked softly, "I don’t know much about economics. If you can really ’level’ Ben, the ripple effects would be enormous. I’d need input from experts."
"Work toward it. Economic times have been tough recently. Harvesting Ben could greatly improve America’s situation."
Panetta responded solemnly, "This kind of matter requires someone to take the fall. Who’ll play the villain? You? If you take the blame, you’ll meet a miserable end. Liuqiu’s independence movement? Garden? Whoever touches this dies. And we can’t pin it on Russia because that could genuinely lead to war."
In a quiet voice, Gao Yi said, "I haven’t thought of that yet, but I have a suggestion: why not involve more players? I think the corporate sector would relish the opportunity, wouldn’t they? Then there’s the financial industry—if they’re informed ahead of time and prepared, could they secure maximum profits during Ben’s sudden nation-ending crisis?"
Panetta exhaled sharply, then spoke in a low tone, "Of course. Soros orchestrated the Asian financial crisis, and one financial disaster allowed America to scoop up South Korea’s economy. Now, if Wall Street’s bloodsuckers catch wind of the impending catastrophic disaster in Ben, they’ll undoubtedly seize the opportunity to harvest it."
"That works, then. So, our operation might secure America’s support, correct?"
In a measured tone, Panetta replied, "In the long run, this kind of move damages America’s national interest because it weakens an important ally. America already fully controls Ben. However, for capital interests, this would be a celebratory feast."
Sternly, Gao Yi said, "I need your support and understanding to begin this operation. We’re a team, after all. I must prioritize our interests. Now, if we bring in Wall Street collaborators and give them some funds to operate in advance, would we be able to cash in big when the time comes?"
Other people’s matters can be ignored, but when it’s your own, you have to pay attention.
Panetta took a deep breath and said, "The President’s interests don’t always align with those of Wall Street, but if we can relocate Ben’s industrial infrastructure—I mean, its physical industries—he might find it appealing."
"I don’t understand this area well, but I figure if Ben’s financial system truly collapses, their physical industries wouldn’t be salvageable either, right?"
"I’ll ask around. Back to the earlier question: who’s the enemy? With an enemy, the Pentagon might agree."
