Chapter 509: Chapter 488: Spread
Set up a film studio, hire a group of actors, and create a fake video that looks incredibly real—this is something Alexander could pull off on his own.
But to rope in three major intelligence agencies to help deceive others? That, Alexander could never manage.
To be honest, it’s a bit terrifying.
These people’s abilities were already intimidating enough. Spies aren’t mercenaries—there’s no need to look at their proficiency with guns.
Just focus on their professional skills.
That fat Brit has a heart that’s pitch-black, venomous, and filthy. He’s really earned his reputation as a s**t-stirrer. The tricks he comes up with are blatantly sinister, transparently fake, yet somehow irresistible. Even knowing you’re walking into a pit of fire, you’d have no choice but to leap in. Absolutely no way out.
He’s ruthless and extremely skilled. His makeup is flawless—so perfect he could even make a living as a hairstylist. That’s impressive. He’s the kind of person who’s solid, capable from head to toe.
Then there’s the Frenchman—silent and low-profile. Despite spending most of his time polishing a watch, repeatedly rubbing and folding the strap, the aged look he achieves on those watches is just perfect. Compare them side by side, and they’re ready to use immediately.
He doesn’t often have a chance to show off, but his ability to spend hours on end meticulously tackling tedious tasks hints at his true nature—he’s renowned for his violent and brutal reputation as France’s guillotine.
This man is unfathomable, far more complex than he appears.
And then there’s Xinfeng—there’s absolutely nothing he doesn’t know. His ideas are plenty, and all of them hit right where it hurts. But what makes Alexander most wary of him is... this guy.
Backed by the CIA, even that pedigree alone commands Alexander’s respect. On top of that, Xinfeng exhibits outstanding competence; simply watching him work with those electronic devices, with practiced ease, reveals he’s a pragmatic big-shot.
Even the woman—right off the bat, she looks experienced but soulless, perhaps a little vacant. She’s stunningly beautiful, sure, but what’s chilling is how naturally, how skillfully, she stages her death. She gives off a vibe of someone who’s far more than just a passive observer.
Finally, how does Gao Yi pull it off?
How does he get the folks at Northeastern University to design props for him and deliver them, all while commanding and leading this crew?
How does he juggle doing shady business with this group, while also getting the CIA and the Military Intelligence Sixth Department to actively support his needs?
It’s terrifying to see, even scarier to think about.
"Upload successful!"
Xinfeng pressed the Enter key. He uploaded the edited texts and photos to the Dark Web.
But unlike regular users, though using the same Dark Web, Xinfeng’s IP address could appear to be from anywhere. He could choose to show himself as being anywhere, rendering the Dark Web’s location tracking completely ineffective.
Of course, this time, the displayed sending address was indeed Moscow.
The information was sent from a spot occasionally used by Yelinsay’s underlings. Even the account name he picked was interesting—a mid-level account, noticeable but lacking much prior presence.
Whatever needed doing was handled on the spot; no need to wait until they left.
"The Military Intelligence Sixth Department will purchase this data in four minutes,"
Dani, after finishing his call, turned to Gao Yi and said, "This intelligence is priced at five hundred thousand dollars. The Military Intelligence Sixth Department is paying, but after buying it we’ll transfer the money through special channels to the CIA."
One funding source is enough. The Military Intelligence Sixth Department found this information on the Dark Web and promptly paid for it. Then, KGB moles embedded within the Military Intelligence Sixth Department discovered the data, forwarding it to Russia’s upper echelons.
This involves the next KGB director—it’s no small matter.
Sith remarked indifferently, "We’ll purchase it too. It’s normal for a seller to fail to honor a promise to sell to only one customer—it’s not uncommon for exclusive intelligence to lose its exclusivity."
Xinfeng smiled and said, "In that case, why not get the CIA to buy it too? Let’s not allow the Military Intelligence Sixth Department to get it for free. Fellows, it seems this is our first time collectively earning some extra cash."
Xinfeng looked at Gao Yi, who contemplated briefly and said, "Fine, sell it to three buyers. Price remains at five hundred thousand dollars. Once Xinfeng receives the money, let’s pool it together and split it, no—use the money as the Garden’s operating fund. From now on, food, drinks, and entertainment will come out of this budget."
Peaceful and joyful, everyone seemed genuinely pleased to be scamming money from their former bosses.
Alexander swallowed hard and asked, "Shouldn’t we be getting out of here?"
"Don’t rush. Let’s spread the information first, then set the place on fire, making it seem as though Ludelins ordered people to burn it down. Is his response fast enough for that?"
Xinfeng looked at Alexander earnestly and said, "If he reacts quickly, I can set the fire right now."
Xinfeng has an undeniable love for arson.
Alexander thought for a moment and then replied in a low voice, "No matter what, it shouldn’t be too fast. He can’t receive the message that quickly, and even if he does, it’s unlikely he could act immediately."
"Then we wait. It’s easier to work here. Oh, someone’s already reached out to me."
Xinfeng pointed at the computer and grinned, saying, "A mystery buyer—no clue who they are. Should we sell? If we sell, this account’s done for. Screw it. Doesn’t matter who—it could even be Ludelins himself for all we care."
A mysterious buyer noticed the intelligence’s value and approached Xinfeng on the Dark Web to negotiate and buy the data.
Xinfeng didn’t immediately post a price, so he quickly typed back some figures.
Non-exclusive intelligence: five hundred thousand dollars. Exclusive: ten million. No bargaining.
At this point, Gao Yi called Joelson.
Minor matters weren’t worth troubling Panetta over—Joelson could handle this directly. Anyway, his job is to deal with such tasks, although Gao Yi usually goes straight to Panetta for more critical matters. But this wasn’t one of those cases.
"Hey, need a favor—go buy some intelligence on Ludelins from the Dark Web. Just purchase it, and don’t worry about the rest. This operation will proceed on multiple fronts—you just need to grab it."
Joelson, having worked with Gao Yi extensively, naturally wouldn’t drop the ball on such a minor request. Besides, he didn’t need to spend his own money—the purchase could be made using official funds.
"Got it. I’ll take care of it right away."
Joelson, one of Panetta’s White Gloves, was satisfied with his role.
After hanging up, Gao Yi asked, "So what’s the verdict? Selling?"
Xinfeng pointed at the computer screen, saying, "They really want an exclusive purchase!"
This was astonishing—not often do intelligence merchants exhibit such sharp judgment, daring to risk big money for a gamble.
Why call them intelligence merchants? Because spies with real backgrounds wouldn’t make decisions so hastily. Confronted with such semi-real, semi-fake data, anyone respectable would exercise caution.
But Gao Yi’s crew wasn’t aiming for financial gains; they sought widespread dissemination. Selling exclusivity would result in the intelligence being locked away—rendering their efforts pointless.
Without needing Gao Yi to say it, Xinfeng sighed and shook his head, "Such a pity—a well-funded intelligence merchant shows up, and we can only reject him. I’ll say it’s already sold."
"Yeah, tell them one copy has already been sold, so it’s not exclusive anymore."
Gao Yi thought Xinfeng’s approach was solid.
Xinfeng started replying to the buyer and, moments later, chuckled, "This buyer’s intriguing. They’ve decided on a purchase. Alright, the first copy is sold—to an unplanned buyer."
A few moments later, the video began circulating again.
This relentless spread quickly saturated the market, inevitably leading people to realize it targeted Ludelins. But knowing is fine—they were never afraid of being figured out.
The intelligence sold far better than expected. Within a mere fifteen minutes, it was sold to eight buyers.
"The Military Intelligence Sixth Department has already received it. They’ve convened a meeting to analyze the intel. Within ten minutes tops, the KGB will know about it."
As Dani said this, he glanced at Alexander intentionally or unintentionally.
The Military Intelligence Sixth Department had been penetrated repeatedly, but this was due to their deliberate tolerance.
Alexander discreetly took out his phone, looked at it, and then stepped aside to reply to messages. Shortly after, he turned around and said, "We’ve already purchased it..."
The matter was spreading at uncontrollable speeds, but it didn’t matter—it was exactly as planned.
"I’ve realized that producing fake intelligence is incredibly profitable."
Gao Yi grinned and exclaimed, "Does this settle it?"
Sith shrugged and said, "It’s done—the whole world knows now."
"Then we’re good to go. Let’s torch the place."
Gao Yi casually suggested and then suddenly added, "Can’t leave just like that. I’ll drag her out and shoot a quick scene—no retakes possible. Let’s get this on video, just in case it comes in handy."
Gao Yi had gotten hooked on acting.
Without saying much, Gao Yi initially planned to drag Lucy outside but worried about her getting scuffed. Instead, he hoisted Lucy onto his shoulder and headed for the door.
Outside, his phone rang. Gao Yi, carrying Lucy on his shoulder, answered the call with his left hand. On the line was Huang Haisheng: "There’s news spreading wildly now—it’s related to the KGB. I’m wondering... could it be..."
"Yes, it’s me," Gao Yi confirmed without turning back.
"Ah, I figured. Alright. We won’t track it further. But can you give me a heads-up?"
Gao Yi replied quietly, "Focus is on Ludelins. We’ll light a few cold stoves too. When it’s clear whom we’re targeting, I’ll let you know."
This was beginning to influence the selection of the next KGB director.
Huang Haisheng fell silent briefly and then murmured, "Thanks. I’ll wait for your notification."
The favor was significant, as Gao Yi could bring Huang Haisheng along when setting fires beneath others.
Huang certainly understood the implications—otherwise, he wouldn’t have thanked him.
Casually, Gao Yi responded, "What are you thanking me for? We’re all one team—no need for formalities. Alright, talk later."
"Alright, alright. If you need any help, just say so. I’ll leave you to it."
Gao Yi hung up, pocketed his phone, then opened the car door and placed Lucy in the back seat.
He shut the door just as Dani commented from behind, "Cut! That scene was excellent—taking the call looked natural. Perfect, folks. Wrap it up."
