Chapter 450: Chapter 430: Nobility

Feng Biao decided to enter with his right foot first.

He couldn’t use the fast track of scanning his ID card at customs, so Feng Biao could only queue up slowly with a group of foreigners. However, once he passed through the gate, he could confirm that he was truly home.

Nothing happened, he returned smoothly.

Feng Biao went to the currency exchange to switch one thousand dollars to RMB.

Next, to take a cab from the airport.

Feng Biao lined up, got in the taxi, and when he was gazing out at the nearly completely unfamiliar sights, his only exclamation was that the changes were too drastic.

He truly didn’t recognize anything, not a single familiar scene in sight.

The most familiar hometown had become the most unfamiliar city; it was a strange feeling, giving Feng Biao a premonition that he could no longer blend into this city.

Jinghai used to be a county but is now a district, quite far from the downtown area. It’s basically a suburb.

After a long drive, when the taxi arrived at the gate of the community Feng Biao was familiar with, the driver flipped out a green card and said, "One hundred and sixty, WeChat or Alipay?"

Feng Biao didn’t utter a word; he pulled out two hundred yuan notes and handed them over.

The driver was startled, saying, "Cash? Oh man, I don’t have enough change, I didn’t prepare any..."

"No need for change."

"Oh, thank you, sir!"

Feng Biao ignored the driver, feeling that not having change was just an excuse for a tip, but he remembered that tipping wasn’t customary in China.

Feng Biao had only a small bag with him, so it was pretty easy for him to return home.

The building seemed even older.

He saw many tall buildings along the way, but the community where Feng Biao grew up still looked the same, with only four floors. The roads that used to be wide now seemed much narrower and more chaotic with cars parked everywhere.

"So many cars."

Muttering to himself, Feng Biao found the building he could never forget and turned into the stairwell, squeezing through a narrow pathway between a cluster of bicycles and electric scooters.

Feng Biao knocked on the green iron security door.

Anxious, afraid, and nervous, he knocked a bit hastily.

Feng Biao had not lost touch with his family, so there wouldn’t be any unexpected situations he didn’t know about.

But he was still tense.

"Enough, enough, are you rushing to reincarnate?"

The wooden inner door opened, and then Feng Biao faced an aging old man with graying hair.

"You, you..."

Feng Biao didn’t expect his father to be the one opening the door, so he said in a somewhat heavy tone, "Dad, open the door."

"Why have you come back!"

Feng Biao’s father was clearly still in shock, but his shock quickly turned to disappointment. As he opened the security door, he said with venom, "Couldn’t make it out there, could you? Serves you right! I told you! I told you not to go! But off you flew!"

The door opened, and instead of a welcome, Feng Biao received the nagging and disdain he was familiar with and utterly loathed.

"You still know to come back!"

Walking into the familiar room, inhaling the familiar scent, Feng Biao’s first words were: "Where’s mom?"

"Your mom went for a walk, what do you want to eat?"

Feng Biao’s dad wasn’t clearly happy or angry. When he saw his son, he didn’t have a welcoming word to say and wore a full face of scorn, yet he still knew to ask his son what he wanted to eat.

Then he quickly made a call.

"Where did you go? Come back! Your darling son is back, why would I lie to you? Hurry up, buy some mantis shrimps, some crabs, sea crabs, not the dead ones, even the recently dead ones won’t do, get the live ones! Get some yellow croakers too, I love those, make it quick."

After hanging up the phone, Feng Biao’s father still looked scornful as he said, "Talking is in vain, your mom definitely won’t believe it, she has to come back and see for herself before going out. Want to bet?"

"Why didn’t you take the car out?"

That was Feng Biao’s second question.

Feng Biao’s father immediately put on an irritated expression and huffed, "Who does morning alcohol checks? Bloody hell! They caught me for alcohol from the night before, my damn license got confiscated, I’m not driving taxis anymore. After I got my license back, I drove Lalamove for half a year, too damn tiring. Look at the state I’m in. Your mom is counting on you to support her, think you can manage it?"

Too annoying, it’s always been this way. Having no ability yet enduring hardship would be fine, but paired with that annoying mouth...

But Feng Biao’s dad did truly provide for this family, he gave what should have been given for Feng Biao’s education, and though the living expenses for school were less than others, it was enough for Feng Biao to eat, he had fewer clothes, but he never had to wear old ones.

Feng Biao let out a breath, he wanted to say something but didn’t know what to say.

His attire didn’t seem successful in his father’s eyes.

A military-style jacket, grey. The clothing was expensive, but not something Feng Biao’s dad would recognize.

Quick-drying casual pants, also without a brand, because military-style labels are on the inside, not prominently displayed on the outside.

The shoes were a pair of low-top LOWA, Feng Biao was used to wearing them. The shoes weren’t broken, but they looked worn, yet again, a brand his dad wouldn’t recognize.

Too lazy to say more, Feng Biao simply sank into silence.

At this moment, the door rang, and accompanied by the sound of a key turning in the lock, a familiar silhouette burst through the door.

Feng Biao promptly stood up, his voice quivering, "Mom!"

"You really came back!"

A family can only tolerate one nagging mouth, because two simply can’t get along.

Feng Biao’s father had a mouth that was both insatiable and incessant; his mother was thus taciturn and reticent.

"Son! You really came back."

Feng Biao’s mother’s hair had also turned much whiter. She didn’t have a habit of hugging her son, so she stood at the door, not knowing what to do next.

"What about the seafood you went to buy? Do you have money on your phone? I’ll transfer a thousand to you, go and buy it!"

Still with a tone of disdain and contempt, but Feng Biao felt his dad had become much more generous, even willing to give one thousand yuan for purchasing seafood.

Just at that moment, there was a knock at the door.

All three of them were somewhat stunned, Feng Biao’s mother turned around to open the door, only to see a man in a black suit standing at the entrance.

"You are..."

Feng Biao was curious as well.

The man in the black suit was quite young, around thirty years old, and he nodded and smiled at Feng Biao’s mother, then gestured to Feng Biao and said, "Mr. Feng, uncle, auntie, hello."

After smiling and greeting them, the young man in the black suit handed over a business card, saying, "Mr. Feng, you left your ID card in the VIP room; I’ve brought it to you."

Feng Biao, still somewhat dazed, reached out to take it, and the young man chuckled, "I won’t intrude on your family gathering, I’ll be going now."

"Don’t leave! Come in and sit, have some tea."

At this time, Feng Biao’s father became very courteous, but he immediately asked Feng Biao, "Did you lose your ID card?"

It’s the same old story, no matter how old he gets, he never has any foresight. No chance of achieving much in life.

Feng Biao sighed internally, then he said to the young man in black, "Thank you, you are..."

"Oh, I perform ground services, just ground services."

If someone was able to deliver Feng Biao’s ID card to his doorstep soon after he entered his house, this meant that Feng Biao was under constant surveillance.

While being impressed by the efficiency, Feng Biao disliked the fact that he was under surveillance.

I mean, no one likes to be watched at every turn, not even if it’s well-intentioned.

So, Feng Biao asked again, "Which organization do you belong to? Can you disclose that?"

The young man hesitated for a moment, then said, "National Security."

"Uh, well, I..."

The young man chuckled, "We’re just delivering something to you, you’ve just come back, and we needed to welcome you, nothing else. We’ll be off soon."

"Oh, alright, thank you."

Feng Biao politely thanked him, and the young man nodded politely, left, and closed the door.

The family was still in a state of bewilderment, and then Feng Biao’s father suddenly said, "He called you Mr. Feng?"

"Yeah, sit down, mom, don’t go shopping for groceries, I’m not hungry. I ate a lot on the plane, let’s rest for a while, then we can go out to eat, or just have something simple here."

Feng Biao didn’t know what to say. He had many questions he wanted to ask, but right now, his parents had even more.

"Why didn’t you make a call? You had me worried to death."

Feng Biao’s mother started to complain, and tears streamed down her face as she spoke.

"Hey, National Security, not the soccer team right? What does National Security do, again, National Security..."

The door was knocked once more.

The three family members had just settled down, and this time Feng Biao opened the door.

Outside stood two people, a man and a woman— the man in his forties, the woman looked to be in her twenties.

The man was dressed in a white shirt and black suit, while the woman wore a professional business suit.

"Hello, hello, you must be Mr. Feng, right?"

"Uh, yes, that’s me."

"I am the chairman of Jinmen Bank’s Jinghai branch. I’ve received an order from my superiors to come to your home to conduct a deposit transaction for you, you see..."

"Oh, please come in, please."

The chairman apparently did not expect to be conducting business in someone’s cramped and old house.

But professional etiquette kept the chairman smiling warmly.

Feng Biao had no choice but to say to his dad, "Dad, make some room for the guests."

Feng Biao’s father quickly got up, giving away the only sofa while puzzled, "What’s this about? The chairman?"

The chairman smiled politely, and after being gestured by Feng Biao, he sat down next to Feng Biao and chuckled, "Mr. Feng, if you could just give me a photo of your ID, we’ve prepared your bank card for you,"

As the chairman spoke, the woman staff member took out an exquisite cardboard envelope, opened it, and placed the cardboard envelope on the small and old coffee table. Then, she laid a black bank card on top of the envelope.

Feng Biao sighed and took out his phone, calling Luca.

The phone was quickly answered; after connecting, Luca whispered, "Hello?"

"I’m home. Transfer twenty million dollars to this account."

The woman understood English; she tried to hide it, yet she still showed a hint of shock.

Feng Biao hung up the phone; the chairman, noticing Feng Biao’s slight discomfort, said naturally, "It’s fine; you can talk about anything on the phone."

The chairman immediately smiled, "Mr. Feng, twenty million dollars exchanged into RMB, according to today’s exchange rate, is one hundred..."

"How much!"

Feng Biao’s father was shocked; he went blank, having missed the last figure and not quite believing his own ears.

Feng Biao said calmly, "My dad, um, please go on."

The chairman gestured, his assistant took out another envelope, and the chairman said with a smile, "This is the family card we’ve made for you; it has an annual interest rate of 3.5 percent, and all the interest will be deposited monthly into this account in your mother’s name."

Feng Biao nodded, took the card, and said, "Mom, take care of this. From now on, use this card to withdraw money. Also, you’ll be in charge of our family’s finances from now on."

The atmosphere in the room was still somewhat tense.

The chairman just smiled because the card was currently empty.

But soon, the chairman’s assistant’s phone rang. After one look at the screen, she couldn’t hide her astonishment any longer and suddenly said, "Chairman Ma, the money has been deposited... it’s already in the account."
