Chapter 439: Chapter 419: Possible
Green felt that he had said all there was to be said, and Dani should have gladly accepted, and that should have settled it all.
But it didn’t.
Dani’s gaze passed beyond Green, and then he said to Kir: "Who’s this old fart?"
Kir showed an expression of extreme helplessness as he looked at the head of the Intelligence Bureau.
The head of the Intelligence Bureau’s eyes swept over Dani’s bulging belly, swallowed his saliva, and his face was left with nothing but despair.
Silence, the timing and manner of which were both inappropriate.
Green leaned on the door with one hand, turned his head slightly, and said in astonishment to the two people behind him: "Are you serious? Is he serious?"
This sentence needs to be interpreted.
Asking Kir if they were serious because Dani’s current condition was clearly wasted, and the candidate proposed by the head of the Intelligence Bureau seemed like a joke.
Asking if Dani was serious because Green found it hard to believe that Dani really didn’t recognize him, but more importantly, Green couldn’t believe that the opportunity he gave would be ignored.
The four men were frozen at the entrance of the apartment, and seeing the three people outside the door not talking, Dani once again exerted force on his hand, trying to close the door.
Firstly, it was wrong to push the door forcefully because Dani had many ways to get rid of Green before closing the door, but he didn’t; he was like an ordinary person, only knowing how to wrestle with a door.
Finally, the head of the Intelligence Bureau said in a low voice: "Dani, stop pretending."
Green looked at the head of the Intelligence Bureau, while Kir appeared somewhat surprised.
The head of the Intelligence Bureau said seriously to Dani: "I know what you’re thinking, but this is useless. Let’s go in and talk it over slowly, I believe you will change your mind."
Dani rolled his eyes and said: "Don’t come to bother me."
The head of the Intelligence Bureau said very seriously: "We are here to dismiss you."
Dani’s eyes showed some change, he seemed to hardly believe his own ears.
Kir nodded and said: "Yes, I can sign the order to relieve you from surveillance right away, and kick you out of this apartment."
Dani silently withdrew his hand from the door, pondered for a moment, and said: "Come in and talk."
Turning around, Dani quietly adjusted his robe, tied the belt of his sleeping gown.
The living room of the apartment was very clean, spacious, without the smell of smoke or liquor, completely free of the stench of bachelorhood, instead, there was a faint scent of men’s cologne.
In the living room stood a long sofa with single-armchairs on either side, and just a small carpet in front of the sofa.
Dani walked to the front of the sofa, turned, and sat down on the long couch. This meant that the single-armchairs on both sides could only seat two people, someone would have to stand to talk to him.
Dani spread his arms, his round chubby face full of mockery, arms stretched over the couch, making it impossible for anyone to sit by his side, he said indifferently: "Speak, what’s the matter that you can’t solve so you want to deceive me into going to my death."
Green frowned.
Kir said very seriously: "It’s not about sending you to death, there’s just no one more suitable than you."
Dani’s face expressionless: "Oh, I’m so honored."
Dani didn’t say anything too offensive, but his expression and tone, combined with what he said, made Kir feel like he couldn’t continue.
Kir looked at the head of the Intelligence Bureau, signaling him to keep talking.
The head of the Intelligence Bureau gestured straight at Green.
Green wanted to speak, but feeling annoyed at Dani sitting on the couch, he said peevishly: "You’re a queer, do you think showing up naked in front of us means you’ve completely given up the dignity of being an agent, and the shame of being a Zero? No, Dani, your little act is useless. Now, get your damn fat ass up from the couch! Go and nicely make us all a cup of coffee, and then, listen well to what I have to say, after that, kneel down and thank me for your redemption, and then get dressed and go do your job for me! Now! Quickly!"
Green’s words were full of authority.
Kir and the head of the Intelligence Bureau exchanged glances and couldn’t help but step back a little.
Dani quietly observed Green, then he lifted his legs, swung them around in the air before crossing them, his hands still resting on the back of the sofa, silently watching Green.
Finally, Kir said in a low voice: "Don’t be like that, let’s talk nicely, Dani, you know each other, you know who he is, he’s not... he just wants to motivate you... he is..."
Kir really didn’t know what else to say.
Of course, Kir and the head of the Intelligence Bureau were treating Dani so politely because they needed him, was that the reason for their courtesy?
No.
The reason could only be one, that Dani was extremely dangerous, and Kir was afraid.
The fact that Kir is scared means that even though there are three of them, they are not confident or capable of dealing with Dani alone.
Dani suddenly said, "I remember now, I recognize you. You’re Green Macuire, hmm, you’ve gotten so old I almost didn’t recognize you. Just now, you had this air of familiarity, and I was wondering which sorry old man you were."
Green slightly pouted, then lowered his head and looked at Dani, "So are you planning to continue talking to me with that stupid expression?"
Dani continued, "I don’t like you, I’ve disliked you for a long time because you’re a proud and stubborn old man. I admit, you used to be impressive, but if you still think you’re great now, then you’re mistaken."
This was a verbal skirmish, and they were desperately trying to hit each other’s soft spots.
Green spread his hands, "I understand how you feel, really, I do."
Green made a gesture of understanding and sympathy.
Dani continued indifferently, "Did you suffer a setback? Are you filled with a sense of powerlessness? I can tell you’re in a hurry, not out of fear, but because you realize everything is spiraling out of control. Let me guess, what’s making you feel so powerless? Age? No, your physical condition should still be good. So what is it? Oh, the Director’s here, the Chief’s here, why would a washed-up retiree like you come with them? Has the Military Intelligence Sixth Department run into a crisis? No, that’s not it, let me think."
Green’s face completely fell.
Dani, still with a nonchalant look, continued, "You’ve been hit, but what exactly hit you? It must be related to age. You feel powerless and that’s why you’ve come to find me, because I’m young, because I’m famous, because I once was the pride of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department. You just said that I need to lose weight, which means we’ll have to rough it out. The Chief said that I could be fired, which means I can’t have any ties with the Military Intelligence Sixth Department anymore, so it’s an off-the-record operation, hmm..."
Dani’s eyes shifted as he spoke, "I’m starting to get curious. For all three of you to come begging to me, it must be extremely urgent, so much so that you don’t even care about the risks I might bring. Interesting, very interesting. I can’t think of anything that would make you guys this desperate, but no matter, I know you certainly don’t have any other choice."
Green said with a stern face, "Are you done? No need to guess, I’ll tell you, right now..."
"No, I don’t want you to tell me, I prefer to judge for myself, Green. You’re a prideful person, and the fact that you’ve held out till now shows it’s a matter of dignity, but you’re also practical. So, it’s not just about dignity. Since the Director and the Chief are also here, it must be something of great importance to the Military Intelligence Sixth Department that also pertains to its dignity."
Kir sighed, "What you’ve said is all correct, but it’s only the superficial aspect. The true situation is beyond your imagination, Dani! Let’s sit down and have a proper talk, trust me."
Dani still showed no intention of standing up.
It’s not that Kir and the others needed Dani to stand up and make room, but Dani’s remaining seated meant he wasn’t interested in cooperating.
Dani wanted Green and the others to acknowledge that they came to him for help and not to bring warmth and salvation to his door.
Dani slowly said, "Some famous guy from another country has come to the UK to create trouble, and you guys can’t handle him... No, that’s not it! You want me to compete with a famous and impressive guy? To see whose performance is better?"
Now, a look of extreme astonishment appeared on Dani’s face, and he struggled to maintain his arms-open posture, speaking in disbelief, "Have you all lost your faces? Using me to charm someone?"
Green spoke softly, "To deduce this much is something anyone could do. Now I’ll just tell you one thing, the French guillotine will be your competitor."
Dani finally smiled and then slightly twisted his head to the side.
Green continued, "You’re here to protect someone, a killer, a mercenary, and he has no affiliation with any country."
Dani still looked disdainful.
Green went on, "Not long ago, he held the Minister of Intelligence and the Prime Minister’s Envoy hostage, and another person, right in the headquarters building, and then he got away safely. Now we have no choice but to try and use you, this bastard, to curry favor with him."
Dani was taken aback.
Then Dani stared straight at Kir, "You, the Minister of Intelligence, and the Prime Minister’s Envoy were taken hostage by one person?"
Kir silently nodded.
Green continued, "The only person in the whole world who can help you with what you want to do is him, and he’s the only one willing and daring to help you. Understand?"
Dani slowly retracted his open arms, "Who is this capable person?"
"Don’t think that we came to you begging. Let me make it clear, you don’t even understand what we want. All you need to do is do your job well."
After saying what he had to say, Green spoke with great seriousness, "We all know what you want to do, now I’m giving you a chance, not begging for one from you. If you dare keep your fat ass on that damned sofa, I guarantee I’ll leave immediately!"
Dani sprang up, walked to the side, and left the sofa free.
Green gestured Kir to sit down with an outstretched hand.
Kir sat down on a single sofa nearby, the Chief of the Intelligence Bureau quickly claimed another single sofa, and Green made a face – he did not want to sit anymore.
Dani spoke solemnly, "Who dares to hold the Minister of Intelligence and the Prime Minister’s Envoy hostage, and that too within the headquarters of the Military Intelligence Sixth Department?"
Kir held his forehead with his hand and spoke in a low voice, "Talking about this is complicated, hmm, we’ll discuss it later, but the pressing issue now is that we need you to take action quickly, to solve a little problem for this person. Right now, in terms of efficiency, we’re already behind the French."
The Chief of the Intelligence Bureau said softly, "It’s not difficult, but it must be done quickly. Most importantly, we hope you can show your edge over the guillotine."
Green pointed at Dani and asked sternly, "Can you even do it, looking like this?"
Dani thought for a moment, "I can lose weight."
