Chapter 417: Chapter 399: I Don’t Understand

Upon entering the bar, the explosive music suddenly began assaulting the eardrums.

The bar was now crowded, with a DJ gyrating on the central stage and scantily clad dancers gyrating on stages around the room. Many people were drinking, some swaying to the music in their booths, others waving their arms in front of the DJ.

The two guides did not linger in the bar but walked straight through the dim and noisy area to a small door marked "Staff Only, No Entry for Outsiders" and opened it, gesturing for Gao Yi and Sherkin to enter.

When Green and Lucy tried to follow, the two men extended their hands to stop them.

Sherkin was alone, while Gao Yi had two followers, but they were still stopped.

Green and Lucy were directed to a booth that already had drinks prepared. Gao Yi looked back, nodded, and then followed Sherkin further along a narrow corridor.

After passing through the narrow passage, they entered an office area, and the guides took Gao Yi and his party directly into a room with no markings.

It looked like a conference room, but it was quite simple, furnished with the most basic long table made of simple office desks, surrounded by a dozen chairs.

There was already someone in the room, a middle-aged man in his fifties. He looked very nervous.

As soon as Gao Yi and Sherkin entered, the person who brought them said, "My contact told me to bring you here for the meeting."

After speaking, he closed the door, leaving only the middle-aged man, along with Gao Yi and Sherkin.

Sherkin spread his hands calmly and asked in Russian, "Where’s the stuff?"

The middle-aged man pointed to the ground, and Gao Yi and Sherkin walked around the assembled long table to find two black briefcases at his feet.

"Where’s the money?"

Sherkin patted the small bag he carried and said, "The money’s here. We’ll verify the merchandise, and as long as there’s no issue, we’ll pay immediately."

The middle-aged man glanced at Gao Yi, then looked down at his own bag, hesitated for a moment, then stepped back and said, "Go ahead and verify the goods."

Now, Gao Yi was curious about only one thing: how much money could fit in a small bag!

It seemed this was the real seller, but obviously, the seller was not professional.

Sherkin said seriously, "You wait next door while we check the goods. Don’t worry, as long as there’s no problem, we’ll pay immediately after the verification."

At this point, the seller clearly had no choice but to hesitantly ask, "How long will it take?"

"Very quick, just a moment."

After speaking, Sherkin opened the door again and said to the person who showed them in, "Take this gentleman next door to wait, and please bring our guests in."

Without any fuss, the process was very smooth, and extremely straightforward.

There was no mystery or deliberate obstacles; the whole transaction was carried out in the simplest manner, not like in the movies where they seem to make the transaction deliberately complicated as if designed to fail.

The door closed again, and Gao Yi and Sherkin sat opposite each other without speaking. Then, Sherkin casually sat down on a chair, bent over and opened one of the bags, saying, "There’s quite a lot, and it’s heavy. I have to supervise your verification; if there’s no problem with the goods, give me the money, and I’ll pay the seller."

Gao Yi nodded, made a phone call, and after connecting, he whispered, "Someone will lead you here, just follow them."

About five minutes later, the door was pushed open again.

The person leading the way did not enter the room, only Huang Haisheng and three verification experts entered.

Huang Haisheng looked the same as usual, but the three experts appeared slightly nervous.

Sherkin had no intention of greeting them. Seeing the three enter, he immediately bent over and unzipped the two bags.

One bag contained paper documents, all sealed in archive bags, while the other briefcase was filled with large magnetic tapes and boxes that looked like vinyl record cases.

Sherkin gestured towards the open bags with an inviting hand gesture.

No need for further words.

Huang Haisheng nodded, walked over, casually pulled out three archive bags, and placed them on the table, while the other hand took a few boxes from the bag full of magnetic tapes.

The older expert sat on a chair, first examining the seals on several archive bags before immediately taking one and asking softly, "May I open it?"

"Yes."

The old expert sighed, his hands trembling slightly as he opened the archive bag.

The fifty-something expert didn’t carry any instruments, while the middle-aged sonar soldier took out a machine that looked like a record player, but much smaller, from his backpack.

The old expert opened the archive bag, which contained only three sheets of paper, but he just glanced at it and immediately said quietly, "Type 209 conventional submarine, no problem!"

He casually took another archive bag, opened it, and found another thin three-page document inside.

The old expert glanced at it, holding the blueprint in his left hand. The blueprint showed concentric circles, and Gao Yi noticed that he couldn’t even make out the pattern on it clearly.

"Harushio-class submarine, no problem! Features match, clear, and accurate."

The old expert put down the second file but did not open the third one. Instead, he turned to Huang Haisheng and said, "Pick two more randomly."

Huang Haisheng took two more archive bags, and the old expert eagerly took them but seemed unsatisfied, turning to Sherkin and asked, "May I choose a random sample for inspection?"
