Chapter 384 - 366: Smashed Down
Chapter 384: Chapter 366: Smashed Down
Missiles don’t turn corners, so what’s the difference between them and rockets?
Several missiles were launched, and there were only a few helicopters. When the seeker heads began to work and locked onto the helicopters, flying straight toward them, they suddenly lost their targets. The seeker heads then quickly reacquired the targets in an extremely short time and made a sharp turn at close range before fiercely slamming into the targets.
The missile suddenly lost its target because the target had plummeted straight down.
The first aircraft was hit by a missile. The helicopter did not immediately crash but was then hit by a second missile and instantly lost control. Due to the extremely low altitude flight, the helicopter’s crashing speed was too fast, as if it had hit the ground instantly.
Thus, the third missile lost its target but relocked onto another just after completing its turn, and then the second helicopter touched down.
So, the scene in the air was quite unique, with at least five or six missiles eventually turning towards one helicopter from different angles, blasting near the helicopter’s main rotor, cockpit area, and engine nozzles.
Another missile struck directly at the plummeting helicopter’s fuselage.
Every shot was a hit, none missed.
That’s the advantage of missiles: even if the shooter is not skilled, because it’s a foolproof operation, just launching the missile is enough.
"Target all shot down, repeat, target all shot down, but the aircraft did not explode upon hitting the ground. They have some planes that made emergency landings. We might need to carry out ground clean up, over."
Someone urgently called over the walkie-talkie.
The helicopter was shot down, some exploding immediately upon landing, which means there’s no worry about anyone inside escaping; that’s the best outcome.
But not all helicopters exploded in mid-air or upon hitting the ground after being hit by missiles. For example, the recovery capacity of the S-70 Black Hawk helicopter, sent for Burning Wind, was very strong. After near detonation from anti-aircraft missiles, even though it severely damaged the helicopter forcing it to land immediately, it still managed to land intact.
Downing the helicopter outside the embassy walls, then clearing out the people inside outside the embassy walls.
That’s a job for whoever is nearest.
Gao Yi and his team weren’t far, but Sherkin’s men were closest. Although they weren’t vastly outnumbered, having downed the helicopter gave them a significant psychological and firepower advantage.
"There are still many missiles left..."
Gao Yi felt a slight regret.
Donkey hesitated.
Feng Biao hurriedly said, "Forget about that, quickly head over. The aircraft is down, but we don’t know how many people are still there. We can’t let them run."
Donkey seemed to want to say something but eventually held back.
"Black Hawk helicopter has landed while maintaining integrity of its structure. People inside... open fire!"
There was no need to say more. The Black Hawk helicopter was hit and lost its ability to fly, but its strong survivability meant it ultimately landed rather than crashed.
But what did that matter? Ambushing a helicopter forced to make an emergency landing, without worrying about enemy reinforcements, was just like beating a falling dog.
"Do we take them alive?"
Unknown who was calling or whom they were calling, but with just that one line, everyone knew what it meant.
Sherkin’s men wanted to earn some extra. As long as Gao Yi said they needed captives alive, Sherkin’s men could certainly capture them alive. The only requirement was a bit more money.
"Don’t take them alive."
Here was only one Burning Wind, and Freedom Wind’s linchpin, Wei Feng, along with another unidentified person, were nowhere to be found. Logically, Gao Yi should have tried to capture Burning Wind alive and then interrogated him to find out the whereabouts of Wei Feng and the other person.
But Gao Yi was not so naive now.
To get a special agent to talk was not something that could be accomplished in a short time, and capturing Burning Wind would only bring trouble.
Handing him over to Panetta was out of the question.
Panetta could internalize and eliminate his rivals by sacrificing pawns, but it had to be done cleanly, then find a scapegoat to pin the crime of attacking the embassy and downing American aircraft.
Panetta wanted Mason’s failure, the waste of resources by Freedom Wind for no useful outcome.
Even if a mountain of gold could be extracted from Burning Wind’s mouth, it was not as significant as immediately eliminating him.
So, Burning Wind must not just die; he must die immediately.
Taking him alive was pointless; better to kill him on the spot.
Gao Yi had only one requirement.
"Eradicate everyone, leave none behind. The only requirement is to try keeping the bodies intact."
Taking captives was unnecessary, but identifiable bodies were crucial.
Sherkin’s men were somewhat regretful, but the person asking over the walkie-talkie promptly responded, "Received, open fire."
The whooshing sound was that of a rocket launcher firing.
Machine guns, rifles, rocket launchers were all fired at a crashed helicopter, sealing any escape routes.
When Gao Yi and his team arrived at the helicopter crash site while driving, the battle was essentially over.
Helicopters would not all crash in the same spot but weren’t too far from each other. The Black Hawk, the primary focus, finally caught fire significantly, with three bodies scattered beside it.
A soldier with a big beard, who looked rather honest, said to Gao Yi, "There were a total of seven helicopters, four of which exploded and caught fire immediately after landing, two fliped over upon landing without exploding, but the people inside were injured, and only the Black Hawk helicopter landed almost unscathed. So we fired two rocket launcher rounds into it; the bodies are definitely intact, whether you can identify them is up to you."
"Is it safe to proceed now?"
"Confirmed, except for the helicopters that caught fire, we’ve already checked them all and ensured there are no survivors."
After Big Beard finished speaking, he hesitated for a moment and then said, "It seems you’ve got a lot of anti-aircraft missiles?"
Gao Yi nodded and smiled, "Yes."
Shaman had sent one hundred and twenty sets of anti-aircraft missiles, and now at least one hundred and ten sets were left.
"Are you selling?"
Big Beard asked Gao Yi with a look full of hope and nervousness.
Discussing an arms deal at this moment seemed somewhat excessive.
Gao Yi looked at Big Beard in surprise and said, "Are you interested in buying?"
"Yes, how many do you have left? I can take all of them. Can we deal at the market price?"
"Uh, I’m not sure I can sell, I need to confirm that, but you’re sure you want them all?"
"Yes, we really need these things, and we have a huge demand. If the leftover missiles are of no use to you, you can certainly sell them to us; however many you have."
Big Beard was confident, and Gao Yi nodded, "Alright, there are over a hundred left; give me a moment here..."
"How many?"
Big Beard suddenly widened his eyes, disregarding everything else, with a shocked expression, "I’m talking about anti-aircraft missiles!"
"So am I."
"One hundred... and... more... sets?"
"Yes."
"Sheesh..."
Looking at Gao Yi with a look of astonishment, Big Beard hesitated for a moment and then said, "Go ahead with your work, we’ll talk about the missiles later; our mission here is completed, our team is withdrawing, do you have any other tasks for us?"
"Nothing else, you guys can withdraw. Are you sure you don’t want the missiles though?"
"Uh... this... um... I might need to confirm first, over a hundred sets, that’s a lot... sorry."
Big Beard appeared embarrassed; he had thought he could handle all the missiles, but now he realized he had bitten off more than he could chew.
This batch of missiles was a good opportunity, considering the source of the missiles, swallowing the anti-aircraft missiles provided during the internal conflict of the Americans was obviously more difficult to trace than buying directly from the black market.
The CIA would erase the origins of the missiles themselves, and the Pentagon would also help conceal where they came from and where they went; these missiles were perfect, especially for after pulling off something significant, they wouldn’t be easily traced back.
Just by Sherkin’s people wanting to buy the leftover missiles from Gao Yi, it was clear they had big plans.
Unfortunately, they couldn’t handle it.
Glancing at the still burning helicopters not far away, Big Beard apologetically said with a sigh, and then, as if possessed, he whispered, "I thought you were going to use missiles to strike the target down, but it turns out you used money to bring down the planes."
With a nonsensical comment, Big Beard picked up the radio and said, "Our mission is completed, we’re withdrawing now."
Gao Yi walked towards the helicopter, but then he said to Big Beard, "You can wait, let’s discuss this after I handle things here. If you can’t handle all, I can sell you some, don’t rush to leave."
After instructing Big Beard, Gao Yi quickly walked towards a few bodies next to the helicopter.
Two were lying face up, one was facedown; Donkey conscientiously turned over the man who was lying face down and then stepped aside.
There was a person who was indeed the one Gao Yi had just seen at the embassy, the one who had decided against boarding a vehicle.
"Was it him I saw just now?"
Gao Yi was almost certain, but he still wanted Lucy to help confirm.
Lucy looked and nodded, "It was him."
Gao Yi turned to Donkey.
Donkey said, "Definitely him."
After speaking, Donkey went over to the body, reached out, and rubbed the face of the corpse; as he did, a layer of something resembling putty came off.
Donkey looked at Gao Yi and said, "But he was wearing makeup... I’m not sure now."
The expression and muscles of a dead person’s face would definitely change; if this body looked no different alive or dead, then it was definitely makeup.
Could it be a body double?
Gao Yi thought it over, crouched in front of the body, and carefully observed for a moment, then he finally said, "If he hadn’t been wearing makeup, I wouldn’t be sure, but since he did, that’s definitely right."
After finishing his thought, Gao Yi picked up the radio and confidently said, "We’ve eliminated the target, mission accomplished, let’s wrap up."
