Chapter 374: Chapter 357 Untitled

Everything just happened naturally.

Gao Yi didn’t know exactly what Shaman and Panetta discussed because when it came down to the true core secrets, Gao Yi cleverly kept his distance.

However, the phone call between Shaman and Panetta wasn’t particularly long, and then Shaman called Gao Yi back.

Without revealing specifically what he had talked about with Panetta, Shaman truly had the potential of a great leader; although he may not have been one yet, given enough time, he was bound to become a dominant figure in the Middle East.

As a qualified leader, Shaman naturally wouldn’t tell Gao Yi everything, despite his great appreciation and even some gratitude towards him.

"You’ve done well, I won’t bother with thanks, I know what you urgently need. Go to the Saudi Embassy in Baghdad, everything you need is there. We’ll discuss other matters when we meet."

Shaman spoke calmly and indifferently, as if he wasn’t excited at all, as though he wasn’t the one who had just clarified everything.

After hanging up, Gao Yi looked towards Grasse.

Originally, Grasse viewed Gao Yi as a friend who could achieve great things together; they were equals, had a close relationship, and deserved sincerity. Beyond interests, there was also a bit of friendship.

After all, they weren’t teenagers anymore; adults considered interests, and no one took things like friendship and loyalty too seriously.

But now, it was different; Grasse knew who the ’Golden Thigh’ was.

If it was truly all about interests, what Grasse should have done was kowtow to Gao Yi and acknowledge him as a godfather.

Fortunately, they were still brothers. Even as Grasse watched Gao Yi complete the entire process of ascent, he didn’t plan to overly flatter him.

As long as he knew who the boss was from now on, having a clear understanding in his heart and distinguishing who was the real deal.

"Am I knowing too much?"

Grasse didn’t intend to say it, but he blurted it out as if possessed by a ghost.

Actually, Gao Yi had some regrets as well. If he had known Panetta would make this choice, he wouldn’t have let Grasse know.

"You indeed know too much, and knowing too much is always somewhat dangerous."

Gao Yi remarked with a sigh, then spread his hands and said, "So you’d better keep what happened today to yourself, don’t tell anyone. Right now, it’s just us, we’re the insiders. You understand what I mean."

Grasse’s boss was not Grasse’s insider either; it was Gao Yi and Grasse that formed a tight-knit group, one bound by shared interests and even life and death.

"Understood, our little secret, say it and you’re dead sort of deal."

Grasse joked in a light-hearted tone about something very serious.

But Gao Yi, very understanding, just smiled and gave Grasse a knowing smile.

"Since this breach incident isn’t having a big impact, you can continue to rest for now. The CIA hasn’t made any progress; I’ll notify you the moment there’s news."

"Alright, I’ll rest a bit more."

Gao Yi didn’t actually intend to rest, and Grasse didn’t really mean to let Gao Yi to rest; it was just that Grasse knew he had to show some sense, watching as the level of people Gao Yi was getting in touch with rose higher and higher, wondering if another high-profile figure would call next and whether he should listen in or not.

Grasse left.

Panetta was practically insane in his desire to kill Burning Wind, but whether they could act depended on whether Joelson could obtain intelligence. Before Joelson provided any information, there was nothing Gao Yi could do but wait.

They still couldn’t decide how to proceed, but they should start preparing, at the very least to tidy up the equipment that would be used.

Gao Yi had just retreated from the battlefield and hadn’t even dealt with his jammed gun; if he had to re-enter a gunfight immediately, he wouldn’t even have a working firearm.

Although this was a safe house arranged by Grasse, and an emergency was highly unlikely, Gao Yi’s attitude towards weapons was clear; he really wasn’t cut out to be a mercenary.

At least not a competent one.

Mercenaries considered their weapons as their lives, or at the very least, treated their primary guns as dearly as their own eyes. Gao Yi, however, had just fought a battle, slept, and still neglected his malfunctioning gun.

But this had something to do with a hammer, which was Gao Yi’s most commonly and favorite weapon to use.

If you talk about Gao Yi’s most frequently used weapon, it could only be a hammer, and such a straightforward weapon hardly needed maintenance, at most a wash-up.

With that thought, Gao Yi simply took out all his weapons.

He took the hammerhead to the bathroom to thoroughly wash it, cleaning off the bloodstains and other strange substances. Once dried, the dirt-like and yet not rust-like stains were rather difficult to clean.

As he carefully scrubbed the Golden Gourd Hammer forged for him by Sean, Gao Yi suddenly felt a very strange sensation, as if this lifeless iron hammer in his hands truly possessed life. Of course, it was just a feeling, and quite a nonsensical one.

After washing the hammer and thoroughly drying it, placing it neatly on the table, only then did Gao Yi start to clean his pistol.

This pistol had quite the history; perfect in every aspect except not suited for the battlefield.

Well, jamming at a critical moment was indeed fatal.

Gao Yi disassembled the pistol; he carefully observed it; there were no obvious stains inside the gun, but there were indeed fine scratches on some of the sliding parts, which seemed to be caused by dust getting in during the fight.
