Chapter 370: Chapter 353 Hammer God
Unable to throw more than three punches was not only his habit but also a testament to his strength. To maintain their respect for his "no more than three" reputation, Gao Yi knocked down Sherkin with three punches.
Donkey managed to save his ears.
As for Sherkin, he was exceedingly strong.
Having endured Gao Yi’s three punches, it was surprising enough that Sherkin didn’t die on the spot, let alone still have the energy to speak.
"You are the second most formidable person I have encountered in this world."
Gao Yi sincerely praised Sherkin, then said to the still stubborn Sherkin who refused to fall, "Don’t keep standing, lie down."
Sherkin staggered and still refused to fall, trying hard to stay upright, but after being persuaded by Gao Yi, he finally swayed backward and collapsed.
The people behind Sherkin immediately supported him, preventing him from falling.
Gao Yi was now facing numerous gun barrels aimed at his head, yet he showed no fear, simply stating, "I told you to lie down, otherwise, believe it or not, even if you don’t die, you’ll be bedridden for three months."
Previously, Sherkin would have doubted such a claim, but now, he had no choice but to believe.
After a moment of hesitation, Sherkin’s men finally slowly laid him on the ground.
Gao Yi took two steps forward, squatting beside Sherkin, and said, "Don’t talk."
Gao Yi began to massage Sherkin’s chest, helping him catch his breath back. He had done this several times and was quite adept at it, although he wasn’t sure if just clearing the respiratory tract would work this time.
It proved effective, however; when Gao Yi pushed upward for the fourth time, Sherkin’s head turned, his mouth opened, and he spat out a large mouthful of blood.
This wasn’t the first time Gao Yi had beaten someone until they vomited blood. Last time, it had cost him tens of thousands. This time, he probably wouldn’t have to pay.
Sherkin finally managed to speak again. He looked dazedly at Gao Yi and in a weak and pained voice asked, "What kind of punch is this...?"
Sherkin knew that Chinese people had their styles of martial arts, but he hadn’t experienced them before. Now, he must have learned enough.
"Cannon~Hammer."
Gao Yi thought for a moment, unsure of how to properly respond, so he ultimately used two terms, "artillery" and "hammer."
Sherkin was momentarily stunned, then finally asked, "Divine Hammer?"
Sherkin had said two words, "god" and "hammer," so this compound could be referred to as "God’s Hammer," and of course, also as "Divine Hammer."
Gao Yi didn’t use his hammer, but he still ultimately hammered Sherkin down.
"It’s not Divine Hammer; it’s Hammer God."
Donkey seriously corrected from the side, "Not the god of hammers, but the god who wields a hammer, Hammer God."
It was just a switch in order, becoming "hammer god," but the meaning was vastly different, one being the hammer used by a god, the other being a god who uses a hammer.
Sherkin looked at Donkey, then at Gao Yi, and then slightly raised his voice, saying, "I understand now, Warhammer Mercenary Group, Hammer God."
"No, no, no, it’s the Warhammer Mercenary Group’s Wind Knight."
Gao Yi quickly corrected Sherkin’s very formal address, but Sherkin nodded and said, "Understood."
After speaking, Sherkin turned to his subordinate and said, "Carry me out. I’ve broken at least four ribs, and I don’t want to walk myself. Take me back for an X-ray to confirm, and doctor, give me some painkillers, I’m really in pain right now."
Losing was losing, and Sherkin was rather magnanimous, not forcing himself to stand nor trying to save face with his words.
Gao Yi hated those who wouldn’t accept defeat. When encountering such people, he didn’t mind throwing a few more punches.
But with someone straightforward and pragmatic like Sherkin, Gao Yi was willing to say a bit more.
"What did you learn from this incident?"
Sherkin was very annoyed that Gao Yi talked to him like he was educating a child. He gave Gao Yi a complicated look and said softly, "Not to challenge Chinese people in combat, right?"
"No, what I’m trying to say is, there are things I can offer that you shouldn’t take."
Finally getting to say this classic line made Gao Yi very happy.
Sherkin whispered back, "I wasn’t asking, I was trying to take."
Sherkin spoke confidently, causing Gao Yi to pause before replying, "You couldn’t take it."
"Yes, that’s why I’m the one lying here, rather than him having his ears chopped off."
Sherkin crisply admitted his defeat, then said to his subordinates who were coming over to carry him, "Make a stretcher and carry me, you idiots."
Gao Yi frowned and said, "As I mentioned earlier, since you lost, you have to work for me."
"Save it, my men can still wipe all of you out right now. I’m already fulfilling a promise by not contending with War Axe for the job. You want me to work for you for free, to kill a CIA agent for free, what are you thinking? Even if I pretended to agree, I would intentionally mess it up. So we might as well both save our efforts."
Sherkin was not only aware of the circumstances but also very candid.
Gao Yi actually had a tough time dealing with such an openly manipulative person, but after thinking it over for a moment, he said to Sherkin, "I can offer, you shouldn’t ask. I do need people, as the War Axe Mercenary Group is short on manpower. Hence, I still want to hire you to continue completing tasks for me. Ten million dollars, it’s not just about setting targets; it’s about how you execute them as I instruct."
Sherkin didn’t hesitate at all; he immediately said, "Deal!"
Lying on the ground, Sherkin struggled to extend his right hand; after Gao Yi shook it lightly, he immediately let go.
"Now you can’t move against me directly, which gives me time to go see a doctor. So, contact me when you decide when to act."
Although Sherkin had agreed to the conditions Gao Yi had set, he was no longer able to participate personally in Gao Yi’s operation. So he had to leave; he needed to see a doctor.
When Sherkin’s subordinates lifted him onto a makeshift stretcher, he said to Gao Yi, "You’re only offering ten million, so I can only accept your task on behalf of the Sand Scorpion Mercenary Group. But we will complete your mission. Goodbye, Hammer God."
Gao Yi didn’t say anything, watching as Sherkin was carried by his men to the side of the vehicle, then carefully and with some difficulty laid in the backseat of the SUV before they all departed.
Once Sherkin’s men had left, Gao Yi finally said, "What did he mean? Why did he say he can only accept the task under the Sand Scorpion’s name?"
"Because Bomb Man has a lot of aliases and many different mercenary groups. The Sand Scorpion Mercenary Group is one of the more well-known ones that only takes on missions worth millions."
Donkey, not Feng Biao, responded to Gao Yi.
After answering Gao Yi’s question, Donkey then spoke softly to him, "Regarding our commission, since the task has changed, of course, the commission must be adjusted as well. Please, how much are you willing to offer?"
The situation pained Donkey; he hated how Sherkin had usurped their work but had to accept the harsh reality that their commission was bound to be lowered, having had no ability to counter Sherkin’s interference just moments before.
Gao Yi thought for a moment, then said, "Still thirty million, but with one condition: when it’s time to eliminate the target, you must be the one to do it."
A gleam returned to Donkey’s eyes; without hesitating, he said, "Absolutely no problem! Thirty million, even if you want me to act as...whatever, it’s no problem."
