Chapter 337: Chapter 321 Personnel in Position

The French were quite formidable in the mercenary sector before, possibly because of the existence of the French Foreign Legion. There were several French names among those legendary mercenaries, and among those who could be called Kings of Mercenaries, the French were the most numerous.

Of course, that was back in the 70s and 80s of the last century. Now, the French are not up to par.

Why mention the French now? The reason is simple. While Gao Yi was recruiting everywhere, Marina also made a phone call.

"There’s a mercenary group, all formed by ex-members of the French Foreign Legion. They had always been with the Three-leaf Jungle Company in the United States. They just recently ended their operations in Iraq and withdrew to start their own firm called Tactical Support, consisting of twelve members, exactly one squad. If you want to use them, you can contact them now."

Just when he needed personnel, there happened to be an ex-Foreign Legion squad, which had worked for a US PMC and was now starting their entrepreneurial venture. They could be just right for Gao Yi’s needs.

But why did it feel so coincidental?

Though it seemed unlikely that Marina would set him up, the timing of Tactical Support Company’s arrival was too perfect, and Gao Yi didn’t want to use it.

Gao Yi couldn’t help but say on the phone, "Is this company reliable? Isn’t their appearance a bit too coincidental?"

Marina softly said, "Their background is quite clear. Their leader, who is also the CEO, always worked with Three-leaf Jungle. They are combat-effective. If you need manpower, you can use them. I can assure you they have no ties with the CIA, do you understand what I mean?"

Gao Yi said in surprise, "So, this is your team? The private military force that you support building?"

Marina neither confirmed nor denied, simply saying, "I am very concerned about your safety, and I would rather see you again than hear that you’ve been killed. So, you know, just offering a little help. Of course, whether you use them is up to you. Goodbye, and I await your good news."

Care from France.

After hanging up, Marina had left a phone number that could be contacted at any time. If Gao Yi wished, he could have the support of a small mercenary group or company largely comprised of foreigners.

Suddenly, Gao Yi slapped his thigh and said, "Tactical Support Company, that’s a good name. Why do we have to be called a mercenary group? Wouldn’t ’Warhammer Tactical Company’ be nice?"

Feng Biao helplessly said, "Because a mercenary group and a security company offer different services. Of course, you have to call it a mercenary group on the Dark Web, but I think maybe it’s not the time to worry about the name."

Gao Yi asked Feng Biao, "So, do we use them?"

After thinking for a while, Feng Biao said, "Forget it, during warfare it’s actually quite taboo to have overly complex sources of soldiers. If the situation gets bad and one person runs, others might follow. It’s better to stick with familiar mercenary groups that have good synergy. It’s less likely to fall apart."

Listening to Feng Biao was wise, but having another hiring option was good to keep. He stored Marina’s number and continued with their plans.

To go back and finalize things with Peterlov.

War Axe is elite, Lego is just like its name—interlocking and piecing together.

Peterlov could muster up dozens of men at any time in Baghdad, which proved his considerable strength, possibly ranking close to those large and super-sized PMC companies in the United States.

On his subsequent visit to Peterlov’s mansion, Gao Yi received an even warmer welcome because a returning customer meant that the deal was definitely on.

Dealing with Peterlov was much more pleasant than with Sherkin. Situated on the couch once again, Gao Yi cut straight to the point, "The people from War Axe Mercenary Group and Lego Mercenary Corps."

Peterlov smiled and said, "Of course, they are already here."

Peterlov beckoned a few people over.

"This here is the leader of the War Axe Mercenary Group, Donkey."

There aren’t many intellectuals in the mercenary community, and nicknames are not intended to be elegant; moreover, they are mostly given by others. But it was rare to have a nickname like Donkey for a mercenary group leader.

Donkey looked to be somewhere between thirty and forty years—short by Russian standards, probably around 175 cm. But he was very robust with the kind of muscles that could stretch out the sleeves.

His beard wasn’t long, but it seemed he hadn’t shaved for two or three days. On his feet, he wore a pair of black tactical boots from Adidas, and his pants were sand-colored tactical trousers tucked into his boots.

Adidas GSG9 tactical boots, rare. If it were not for needing to know about makeup, fashion, and certain specific clothing as essential knowledge for Gao Yi, he probably wouldn’t have recognized them.

His shirt was a black short-sleeve T-shirt, not very form-fitting, but Donkey’s arms still made the T-shirt tight, which was quite intimidating.

Gao Yi politely extended his hand to Donkey and smiled, "Wind Knight, pleased to meet you."

Gao Yi took the initiative to be friendly and offered Donkey his hand, but Donkey just casually saluted with his hand at his forehead and said in a heavily accented English, "Hello."

Gao Yi withdrew his hand.

Peterlov pointed at a man next to the Donkey, who was much taller and looked equally strong, though older, saying, "This is the Vice Commander of the War Axe Mercenary Group, Moose."

A Donkey, a Moose—the leaders from the War Axe Mercenary Group were quite interesting.

Gao Yi nodded again with a smile, "Hello."

Donkey wasn’t much of a talker, and this Vice Commander Moose didn’t even speak; he just nodded at Gao Yi without saying a word.

It seemed that Moose was at least fifty, his facial expression one of numb calmness, though Gao Yi thought he lacked the vibe he had sensed from a few people with Sherkin.

Though of similar age, Moose did not give off an eerie feeling.

There was also a man in his thirties next to them, and Peterlov said solemnly, "This is the Commander of the Lego Mercenary Corps, Arctic Bear."

All animals, but this time, the commander of the Lego Mercenary Corps took the initiative to reach out his hand to Gao Yi, saying politely, "Hello."

At that moment, Gao Yi could see that both Donkey and Moose slightly curled their lips, seemingly disdainful of this Lego’s Arctic Bear.

After the introductions, Gao Yi sat down and then he spoke seriously, "Gentlemen, tell me about your equipment. We might need to face an assault team with heavy armor, and I hope you have suitable and sufficient equipment."

Donkey still spoke in heavily accented English, "We have two snipers, one using a 8.6mm caliber T5000 sniper rifle, and the other a 12.7mm caliber Barrett Sniper Rifle, powerful enough. We also have two machine gunners using PKM machine guns, but if necessary, we can switch to 12.7mm heavy machine guns, although that would take the spots of assault riflemen."

Vice Commander Moose finally spoke, his voice booming, "Our assault riflemen are the best, the bravest."

With heavy armor, then two large-caliber machine guns, and two large-caliber sniper rifles would be enough, but for real indoor fighting, machine guns and sniper rifles are obviously not suitable.

Gao Yi immediately said, "What if the enemy engages in indoor combat?"

Donkey took a breath and said, "We won’t give them that opportunity, but if it really comes to indoor fighting, we all are equipped with bullet-proof vests, so we won’t be afraid of them."

Gao Yi waved his hand and continued, "I mean, to annihilate the enemy completely, indoor combat should be defensive, but might also require offense. I hope you can give detailed descriptions of your weapons and tactics to ensure they meet my needs."

At this, Moose didn’t hesitate, "Simple. If rifles aren’t effective, then use explosives, directional bombs, hand grenades, explosives—we’ve fought many close-quarters battles and indoor combats, and we’re not afraid of these."

Gao Yi was pleased and said to Moose, "So, you’ll be well-equipped with enough explosives, right? You don’t use rocket launchers and grenade launchers?"

Donkey and Moose exchanged glances, whispered something in Russian, and then Donkey spoke very seriously, "We’ll choose our equipment based on our habits; we can handle all situations. You just tell us what to do, don’t micromanage our equipment choices."

Temperamental indeed, Gao Yi nodded and then addressed the commander of the Lego Group, "What about you?"

"Of course, we also select our equipment based on combat needs. If you think we need more RPGs, more hand grenades, then we’ll use more."

Arctic Bear said politely, "We can provide ten rocket launcher shooters; we have plenty of RPG7s."

"Can heavy machine guns be used?"

Arctic Bear smiled, "Of course, many of our people have experience with heavy machine guns. Who doesn’t know how to use them?"

A temperamental special forces and a well-tempered conventional army, that’s probably the difference.

Gao Yi was satisfied with the War Axe, and as for the Lego Mercenary Corps, well, a group providing basic manpower, mainly to increase numbers, couldn’t ask for too much.

Numbers are still important, so Lego had to be utilized.

Gao Yi nodded and said, "Good, I’m paying. The time frame is the coming half month, combat could occur anytime. I need you to be prepared, able to arrive at the battlefield I designate at any moment. We’ll discuss the specifics later."

Donkey said impassively, "Five million."

Donkey hadn’t asked how many were the enemy or whom they were fighting. Their mercenary group’s starting price was two million, and now he asked for five million.

Gao Yi was prepared to pay ten million for War Axe, but Donkey’s asking price was five million, lower than expected.

Peterlov beamed and said, "Good, for the benefit of both parties, please pay the commission to me, plus ten percent fee."

Gao Yi found it a good deal; he nodded and said, "Deal, transfer the money."
