Chapter 301: Chapter 287: The Biggest Secret

"The CIA’s person of interest is none of my Pentagon’s damn business!"

It was for this simple reason that Gao Yi and his team watched as two helicopters arrived overhead with a huge whooshing sound. After hovering briefly, they flew off towards a clearing a hundred meters away.

One helicopter waited in the air while the other descended to the ground and then began throwing one box after another out of the cargo bay – six olive-green plastic cases in total. As soon as they were dumped, the helicopter immediately took off again.

"Don’t throw them, they’ll break!"

Gao Yi let out a cry of alarm, but he couldn’t communicate directly with the people on the helicopter, so while he was getting frustrated and preparing to call and complain, the second helicopter landed and two people jumped out. Then, they carefully caught and placed three more boxes on the ground.

With all nine boxes thrown, the second helicopter also took off immediately.

Khalid watched the helicopter recede into the distance with sheer delight.

He’d found a powerful backer, latched onto a strong leg.

Though he still had some minor concerns, they no longer seemed important.

Unfortunately, Khalid still didn’t grasp the true essence of social niceties. While he looked on with admiration, he failed to verbalize his amazement.

He didn’t offer any flattery.

If it were Gao Yi in this situation, he’d definitely be brown-nosing to the extreme to enhance the effect.

Of course, Gao Yi couldn’t care less about that right now; what mattered was that the supplies had arrived, and there was a life to save.

What followed need not be detailed – the supplies were urgently brought over, and then the boxes were swiftly unpacked and powered up.

The doctor was overjoyed, feeling a heartfelt delight with each item unpacked.

A portable X-ray machine, a small electrocardiogram, and even a compact ventilator – these medical devices and drugs, originally intended for a French field hospital, were naturally highly suitable for battlefield conditions.

The medications were sorted out and prepared for use. As the doctor and his two trained assistants were busy, only Lucy noticed that Lin Xianghua had woken up.

Lin Xianghua opened his eyes.

Lucy’s own eyes widened in shock when she saw Lin’s sudden movement, and then she pulled at Gao Yi’s clothes.

Gao Yi, with a serious expression, was watching the doctor prepare. He thought it was time to save the patient when he noticed that the two assistants couldn’t operate the X-ray machine properly, and the doctor had to fiddle with it too.

Gao Yi felt they might as well let the doctor just take a knife and cut Lin open now; waiting for the machine might be too late.

But at this moment, when Gao Yi turned around after being tugged by Lucy, he immediately locked eyes with the now-awake Lin Xianghua.

This was bad!

Waking up at this time wasn’t good; Gao Yi could only think of one phrase – the final flicker of consciousness before death.

Gao Yi felt his bones go soft and his legs weaken for a moment, but he mustered a very awkward smile on his face and said with a tone that feigned surprise, "You’re awake? Great, you’ll be fine now..."

Gao Yi looked like he was smiling, but it was more like he was crying.

Lin Xianghua was initially confused, but understanding dawned upon him when he saw Gao Yi’s expression.

Looking at the busy figures with their backs to him, Lin Xianghua let out a soft sigh.

Gao Yi moved swiftly forward, wanting to grab Lin’s hand but not daring to, so he whispered, "Doctor... doctor!"

He had to raise his voice. The doctor, annoyed, turned around but jumped upon seeing Lin’s open eyes.

Gao Yi turned to the doctor with a trembling voice, "What’s happening? If he’s awake, does that mean he’s okay?"

The doctor was like a lifeline – if the doctor joyfully declared everything was fine, Gao Yi would be willing to pay any price, ready to bury the doctor in money.

But Gao Yi feared the doctor would frown, look anxious, or shake his head in dismay.

The doctor rushed to Lin and looked at him in amazement for a moment, then quickly spun around shouting, "Hurry up! Hurry up!"

The doctor didn’t explain anything, and Gao Yi grabbed the doctor, his voice filled with astonishment, "How is he, what’s wrong with him, tell me!"

The doctor shrugged off Gao Yi’s hand, urgently saying, "I don’t know! I checked his blood pressure; it’s very low, his heartbeat’s slow, but now it’s recovered. I don’t know what’s wrong with him, listen, I’m a surgeon, not a battlefield medic, I... I... I’m not used to this rudimentary operating room, and my eyes are not X-ray machines. Right now, the most crucial thing is to get this X-ray machine working, so please, don’t waste my time!"

With that, the doctor went back to setting up his new X-ray machine.

A regular surgeon is simply different from a true military doctor.

Lin saw and heard everything, and at this point, he felt more than ever that his time had come.

"Boss."

Lin called out, sounding not too weak, enough so that if Gao Yi were to judge, he might even describe it as ’full of breath’.

Gao Yi was not a doctor, but he was a martial arts expert; he truly could discern a person’s physical condition from their breathing.

But now, Lin should be weak; if he sounded full of breath, wouldn’t that mean it was the final flicker?

It was over; everything was over.

Lin breathed out and then whispered softly, "Call the brothers over. I have some things I want to say to everyone."

"Wind Vane! You guys, come in!"

Gao Yi called out without moving from where he stood.

He felt that even when he had been close to death after getting shot, he wasn’t as weakened as he was now.

Feng Biao peeked in, then waved, and Luca, supporting Li Jie, entered.

Having seen too much death, Feng Biao and Li Jie’s first thought was also that this might be the final flicker of life.

Feng Biao frowned and approached Lin Xianghua, whispering, "Brother, just say what you want to say."

Gao Yi’s voice trembled as he said, "Don’t talk nonsense, he’s fine, Ah Gui, don’t be afraid, you’re alright."

Feng Biao whispered, "Don’t waste time. If there’s anything on your mind, we’ll take care of it for you later."

Gao Yi was close to crying, encountering such a situation for the first time, he was not used to it.

At that moment, the doctor finally cheered and then he brought over the X-ray machine, urgently saying, "Move aside, I need to take his X-ray."

Lin Xianghua sighed and said, "I have a secret, my real name is Xiao Lin Xianghua..."

Gao Yi suddenly froze, Feng Biao leaned forward with his head, and Li Jie was sharply taken aback.

Lin Xianghua whispered, "Yes, I am Ben."

Gao Yi’s mouth began to twitch. Then he subconsciously raised his hand slightly, but he quickly put it down, yet the hand he put down rested naturally on the handle of his gun. After touching the gun handle, Gao Yi startled himself and quickly moved his hand away, but the hand he put down still found its way to the hammer at his lower back.

It was truly a subconscious action. He really hadn’t thought about it, really didn’t mean to.

Feng Biao’s leaning head didn’t move, but his mouth did open, and Li Jie, supported by Luca, naturally placed his hand on the gun handle at his waist.

"I fuckin’... no problem." Feng Biao, who was more experienced, quickly shut his mouth, then forced a laugh, "No problem, no problem, heh, my mother, I..."

Feng Biao looked towards Gao Yi.

What could Gao Yi do?

Watching Lin Xianghua dying, what could he say? What could he do?

And then thinking about Lin Xianghua’s usual behavior and character...

No, just no, all the good impressions were shattered with that one word "Ben," gone.

Watching Gao Yi remain silent and motionless for a long time, Luca urgently said, "What’s the matter with you guys? What are you doing! What happened?"

Lin Xianghua had spoken in Chinese, and Luca didn’t understand.

Gao Yi didn’t know how to explain, but Li Jie said with a pained expression, "You could be unforgivably bad, murder, arson, burglary, and robbery I can tolerate, even your liking men I can accept, but how could you be... could be..."

Lin Xianghua’s expression turned solemn as he said in a deep voice, "My grandfather is Xiao Linzhu Nan, you should look up this name."

Gao Yi and the others were somewhat puzzled because they had never heard of this name.

Only Li Jie suddenly reached for his phone, saying, "Wait, wait a moment, I think I’ve seen this name somewhere."

Lin Xianghua said seriously, "My grandfather gave me my name, heart set on China, just a shame to be born a Ben, Gao Sang!"

Gao Yi shivered.

Conflict, extreme conflict.

Gao Yi sighed and said, "You tell me."

"After I die, please bring my ashes to China, scatter me into the farmland. If I can’t live in China, it would still be nice to fertilize its land after death."

Gao Yi was close to crying.

The doctor urgently said, "Don’t move, don’t talk."

The X-ray machine, which could take images even with the patient lying down, Lin Xianghua wanted to push it away, but he felt he didn’t have much strength in his hands.

At the mercy of the doctor’s fiddling, Lin Xianghua said faintly, "After I die, if you wish to pay your respects, play Nakajima Miyuki’s music for me. I love Nakajima Miyuki the most, but I never dared to listen to it with you guys, afraid you’d recognize me as a Ben. My favorite is riding on the back of a silver dragon, my favorite dishes are eel sushi and red snapper sashimi, it has to be red snapper, wasabi, not mustard sauce, I hate Japanese restaurants that replace wasabi with mustard sauce..."

Li Jie suddenly exclaimed, "My God, Xiao Linzhu Nan, this, this..."

Everyone looked at Li Jie, who turned his phone screen on and said in astonishment, "A hero!"

Afterward, Li Jie looked at Lin Xianghua with admiration, saying, "You’re a true Han descendant, how did you end up as a mercenary?"

Lin Xianghua smiled and then closed his eyes, whispering, "It hurts so much, it won’t hurt if I die, right?"

Lin Xianghua was usually quiet, but so melodramatic when dying.

Li Jie’s voice trembled, "You can’t die, don’t die..."

Gao Yi couldn’t help asking, "His grandfather is famous?"

Li Jie’s voice trembled, "He’s a hero, damn, he always was."

At that point, the doctor suddenly said, "What are you guys doing? He’s fine, broke three ribs, but clearly not going to die."

This good news suddenly made the atmosphere awkward.

Everyone looked at the doctor in shock, Lin Xianghua even more incredulously said, "Not going to die? Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"

By the look on Lin Xianghua’s face, he seemed to want to die.

But when you think about it, it makes sense. The care for the dying had been done, last words given, biggest secret revealed, and then to find out he’s fine—it’s a bit awkward, what to do next.

Gao Yi swallowed and asked the doctor, "He’s really okay?"

"Really okay."

The doctor looked at Gao Yi and the others with a puzzled look, then said in confusion, "Usually, this is the moment you all should be cheering."

Still silence, except for Li Jie who said, "Yay, um, cough cough, that’s great..."

Gao Yi scratched his head and then said to Lin Xianghua, "We’re pretty busy right now, and with this stunt you just pulled, maybe you could explain?"
