Chapter 240: Chapter 227 Joining the Battle

Gao Yi changed into a different outfit, a police uniform. It wasn’t because his clothes were too shabby, but rather, donning the uniform might make anyone think twice before attacking again.

George made a phone call just to confirm that the police station had been attacked. As for reporting the incident, the local residents had already taken care of that.

Though it’s called a town, it’s really just a small village with only about a dozen or so households. The entire town was already in a state of extreme panic, and the police had already been notified.

Dr. Strong’s clinic was no more than three hundred meters in a straight line from the police station, and less than five hundred meters by road. The two men could reach it in about two minutes if they ran.

Looking around, Gao Yi noticed that there were indeed no people outside the police station. After the last rocket had been fired and several helicopters had left, it seemed that the attack was over, but he couldn’t be sure as he hadn’t seen everything himself.

George knocked on the door.

The knocking was forceful, and then George started shouting loudly. Soon after, the door opened, revealing a man who appeared to be in his sixties.

"Doctor, we have several severely injured people at our police station who can’t be moved right now, can you bring your medical kit and come help us?"

George spoke in French, which Gao Yi didn’t understand, but he was certain that George genuinely wanted to help.

The doctor hesitated only briefly before asking, "Briefly describe it for me, what kind of injuries?"

"Severe blood loss, urgently need to stop the bleeding, and two others are blast injuries, they’ve fainted."

"I don’t have a good solution for blast injuries, but I can handle the bleeding. Just give me a moment."

The doctor didn’t make any excuses; he turned and entered the house. George immediately nodded at Gao Yi, signaling that there was no need to draw their weapons.

Dr. Strong soon came out again, this time with a medical kit. Hurriedly, he said, "As the only doctor around here, I’m all ready. Is this a colleague of yours? Never seen him before."

George didn’t respond to the doctor’s question, instead he whispered, "We need to run, Doctor, it’s urgent."

The doctor followed George, running. Even while running, he couldn’t help but ask, "What exactly happened? I saw helicopters, many armed men, and people running down the road who then stole Mrs. Sali’s car and escaped."

"Escaped? How many?"

"Four, I saw it very clearly, I was watching from the second floor."

With people escaping, this was good news because it meant that there might not be further terrorist attacks.

But George didn’t rush to inform Gao Yi. He simply said hurriedly, "What about the helicopters?"

"I saw the helicopters take off. Four helicopters took off first. After they had flown away, people ran down the road and stole Mrs. Sali’s car."

"Alright, I see. We’ll deal with that once reinforcements arrive. For now, let’s focus on saving the wounded."

"These people, what’s their background? Can you tell me?"

George thought for a moment, looking for a plausible and acceptable explanation for a terrorist.

"We’ve encountered a major terrorist attack, like . . . like . . . a 9/11, the French version of 9/11. The origins of the terrorists aren’t clear yet, but it’s definitely those people, you know. As a policeman, I can’t jump to conclusions, but you understand, right?"

Another little trick—when unsure of the exact answer, provide a vague one, and the doctor would surely believe his own conclusion.

"So it’s them again . . . uh, them again!"

The doctor quickened his pace.

Upon arriving at the police station and seeing its grim condition and the bodies everywhere, the doctor stopped, then gasped in horror, "God, was there a bombing here?"

"Let’s save the people quickly."

The doctor carefully stepped over the bodies at the entrance, cautiously finding his footing to avoid stepping on them as he entered the police station.

"Oh, God . . ."

The doctor carried a medical kit. He couldn’t provide blood transfusions as he had no plasma, but he could stop the bleeding.

Looking around at the corpses and the blood-splattered station, the doctor paused for a moment before saying, "Let’s start with him."

The doctor rushed to Feng Biao’s side, loosened the belt tied around Feng’s thigh, cut open his pants with scissors, and began searching for the severed blood vessels in the wound.

At this point, George approached Gao Yi and tugged at his shirt, then gestured for Aliza to come over.

The three gathered to one side, and George whispered, "The doctor saw the helicopters leave and saw four people steal a car and escape. Let’s not worry about why the others didn’t leave by helicopter for now. We can be fairly sure that there are no terrorists around the police station now. So, we need to think about whether the leaving helicopters will come back with more people. If more terrorists are coming, how much time do we have, and if we have enough time, should we consider leaving here on our own?"

Aliza immediately responded, "Of course, we should leave. I counted just now—thirty-six bodies! This isn’t a terrorist attack, this is war. If it’s war, it won’t end easily; more people will definitely come."

The local police officer joined them.

"What are you talking about?"

The older officer whispered hurriedly, "I just called a few colleagues, and they said they’d come to support the station soon. But frankly, I don’t think they will."

Three police officers, were considering their survival. If they could ensure safety, they would see if there were any benefits to reap.

If, in the end, they found there was no credit to be earned or benefits to gain, they could still claim they had been held hostage by Gao Yi. At present, it looked like they wouldn’t make any dangerous moves.

Whether the Andic Group would continue to send people, or whether the CIA would directly intervene, was something Gao Yi currently considered.

There was still some distance from the center of Paris. Even if the Andic Group had people and the CIA was willing to commit resources, their arrival wouldn’t be that fast.

That’s what Gao Yi thought, so he felt there was time to first treat the wounds of Feng Biao, Lin Xianghua, and Li Jie to keep them alive, then have the police take him to the downtown, to a large hospital.

That was decided.

Gao Yi whispered, "After the doctor is done, no matter when the reinforcements arrive, we should leave together. Staying here is too dangerous. I can reveal some insider information to you, the situation is..."

"Don’t speak!"

"Oh, please, I don’t want to know."

"Stop, don’t say it!"

Gao Yi wanted to reveal some information, such as how dangerous it would be next, but he clearly thought too much; they either didn’t want to know or dared not know.

Aliza hurriedly said, "The doctor might need my help, I’ll go help the doctor."

The older policeman quickly said, "I’m going too. I can help. I need to check if any terrorists are coming outside."

The group that had just gathered soon dispersed, while George could only say with resignation, "Sir, we’re all in the same boat right now. For the sake of this, please don’t say anything anymore."

Gao Yi gave up, spread his hands, and said to George, "Since we’re all in the same boat, is there anything else I need to fix here?"

"Fix? The whole thing is a huge mess. This mess can’t be fixed. Sir, if you are really capable, then no matter what you do, the Ministry of Internal Affairs will regard you as a civic-minded citizen. If you’re not capable, then you’re a terrorist, and those dead outside are the civic-minded citizens."

After saying that, George spread his hands and whispered, "So don’t worry about fixing anything, just see who can decide..."

George didn’t finish his sentence, as he couldn’t continue.

Just then, the older policeman at the door yelled, "A car is coming, it’s too fast, it’s not normal, you better come and see."

Whether there is hostility, often can be sensed, even in a vehicle.

For example, charging straight, not slowing down even when turning, and then heading straight for the police station, slowing down only when seeing the station, instead of driving directly into it.

Just by looking at the state of the car, something was clearly wrong.

All this in just less than ten minutes. Could the enemy really strike again?

If the people getting out of the car were police, then there would be no problem. But if they weren’t, that would be trouble.

It would mean the Andic Group was not giving up, and the attack would continue wave after wave.

It had just gotten dark, not completely dark yet.

Four people got out of the car; from a distance, their faces were unclear, but the older policeman immediately said, "They aren’t colleagues from our station!"

The people coming out aimed their guns and advanced towards the police station. The older policeman immediately shouted in shock, "They are really terrorists!"

The older policeman turned to run, but George grabbed him and whispered, "Fire a couple of shots, at least fire a couple!"

He spoke in French, which Gao Yi didn’t understand, and George knew Gao Yi didn’t understand.

After saying that, George said to Gao Yi, "We’ll fight alongside you!"

It was a gamble, a desperate one.

George felt that the biggest gamble of his life was today, taking advantage of the situation before the attackers reached them and fired a couple of shots, given the circumstances, bystanders would likely end up dead.

It wasn’t because of extraordinary courage, but because the situation forced them into desperation.

And George was not a coward; he just had no reason or necessity to sacrifice his life for his job, but to save his life, he could use the skills he had learned as a police officer.

Gao Yi saw what was happening outside; he didn’t have much time to think, he had to react instantly.

"We can’t let anyone come closer. We can’t bear the consequences of fighting indoors. Throwing a few hand grenades would finish us. We’ll resolve the threat outside."

After saying that, Gao Yi whispered, "I’m going outside, you two fire a couple of shots to draw the enemy’s attention, then you don’t need to worry, the rest is up to me."

George was surprised, such conscientious civic-minded citizens he had never seen, but looking at the corpses around, he suddenly understood.

With the situation having escalated to this point, there was no need to worry about their courage or capabilities.

George immediately said, "Alright! We are also joining the battle!"
