Chapter 200: Chapter 188 Waiting for People
Gao Yi found it difficult to decide whether to clean up the mess himself or to let Shaman handle it.
Cleaning up himself meant getting his hands bloody, but it would resolve potential future problems for Shaman, essentially solving all troubles for the unseen boss behind the scenes and achieving the best outcome as a faithful dark operator.
Leaving it to Shaman, however, meant this matter would likely be exposed.
The issue with Shaman’s team wasn’t about whether there were moles, but rather about how many there were.
As soon as Shaman’s men cleared things up, the news would inevitably reach the ears of the CIA, and by then, Gao Yi would have to face retaliation from the CIA.
But there was one thing— if Shaman finished the job, he would be the main person responsible. The CIA’s first target of revenge would be Shaman, then maybe the Sky Garden, or even in passing, the Sky Garden.
But if Gao Yi handled it himself, it was likely that the CIA would mark him as their primary target for retaliation.
The order of who was targeted first made a big difference. Gao Yi’s small stature couldn’t withstand the CIA’s heavy punches. At this juncture in Baghdad, he had to have Shaman’s men in front, otherwise, he wouldn’t even know how to get out of Baghdad.
After understanding this, he made up his mind.
Gao Yi hung up Shaman’s call and walked to a secluded corner to call Luca.
"I’ve stirred up a huge mess, no, I’ve pierced the sky with a hole."
Starting with explaining how difficult his situation was, Gao Yi sighed and continued, "I killed a big shot from the CIA, and now we’re waiting for Shaman’s men to take over, but I suspect Shaman’s men will betray him, so, we’re likely to face immediate retaliation from the CIA, immediately."
Luca asked in a low voice, "Which big shot? Who?"
"Naaoi."
"I don’t know him."
Gao Yi continued, "Right now, just Lucy and I won’t suffice. Have Old Ghost and Li Jie come help. You drive and monitor the situation with the Wind Vane outside. If it’s feasible, we’ll leave after Shaman’s men arrive. If not, I don’t know what we’ll face."
"Why not leave directly?"
Gao Yi helplessly replied, "We can’t leave now! If I leave, all the witnesses here will eventually provide the CIA with all my details, and then we’ll just be waiting for the CIA to hunt us down until we’re dead."
"I understand. So you’re waiting for Shaman’s men to arrive and clean everything up, making him the most conspicuous target?"
"Yes!"
Luca whispered, "I got it. They’re in."
Running away immediately would leave behind an indelible risk, staying might face the imminent backlash and revenge from the CIA. For the future, it’s crucial to stay now to divert the conflict.
Gao Yi didn’t take Shaman’s money; Shaman wasn’t his employer, so he had fulfilled his moral obligation.
Luca’s car wasn’t parked far. Upon receiving Gao Yi’s call, he drove up to the villa, dropping off Lin Xianghua and Li Jie.
There were bodyguards in the yard, but with the master already subdued, Lin Xianghua smoothly entered with another person.
With two more people, Gao Yi immediately felt much relieved. He called over Mu Tianwen and whispered, "You go out with the butler, leave here, and get back on the plane. Don’t wait even an extra second, leave immediately."
Mu Tianwen whispered, "Where to?"
"I don’t know, but at least not within Iraq’s airspace. If it really comes down to it, just head back to Saudi."
Mu Tianwen looked bewildered. Gao Yi continued, "I’m afraid you’ll also face retaliation from the CIA. Your father has always maintained contact with the CIA, they definitely know you’re involved. Forget it, no time to explain, I don’t understand all this intricacies either. If it gets too much, ask your teacher, I think he can give you good advice."
"Okay..."
Staying wouldn’t help, and Mu Tianwen wouldn’t foolishly offer to stay either. Gao Yi told him to leave quickly and far enough not to cause trouble for him and to safeguard his own family.
Mu Tianwen turned to leave, but after a few steps, he suddenly turned back and asked, "Brother, is there anything you need me to do?"
Gao Yi waved his hand and said, "Just go."
Mu Tianwen promptly left. As for the butler, he had already heard gunshots and was now shivering in the car outside. Seeing Mu Tianwen emerge unharmed, he of course sped away with him.
By this time, Lin Xianghua and Li Jie had already gotten a complete set of bullet-proof vests and guns from the bodies killed by Lucy.
The villa’s owner and his accomplices were herded together, along with their disarmed bodyguards, sitting in a cluster on the living room floor, anxious but helpless.
Just two people, but they were more than a match for a dozen others. Resistance meant instant death, and surrender possibly spared their lives; most would choose the latter.
With the situation totally under control and no need to worry about the bodyguards resisting, Gao Yi made a third call to Grins.
"Buddy, I might be in trouble. Not sure if you can handle it."
He couldn’t deceive his teammates or keep his friends in the dark; Gao Yi wouldn’t do that.
Grins, curious, asked, "What happened?"
"I took out Naaoi, a CIA guy. Do you know him?"
"Naaoi? Of course, I know him! You managed to take him out? No, I mean, you managed to take him out instead of being taken out by him?"
Gao Yi was speechless, then he listened to Grins continue, "You should say who in the whole American intelligence community doesn’t know Naaoi. Although the name is a codename, it’s like a business card for the CIA. Wait, are you serious?"
Gao Yi was rendered speechless by Grins, he said in a low voice, "Of course, I’m serious! Dude, I killed Naaoi, can you not imagine what I’ll face next? Revenge! Endless, all-out revenge!"
"The revenge won’t reach me, and the CIA will only try to cover up this news. Buddy, Naaoi was very formidable, that’s why the Pentagon was displeased with him. If Naaoi is dead, the Pentagon would only offer condolences to the CIA, but internally they wouldn’t be able to contain their joy. Even if the CIA knew we were involved, what can the Pentagon say when the CIA had killed our military’s Seal Six Team?"
Gao Yi said in astonishment, "What do you mean?"
"What I mean is that the competition is far more dreadful than external enemies. The Pentagon and the CIA sabotaging each other isn’t new, so I’m not afraid of CIA’s revenge, but you..."
Grins stopped short, then Gao Yi said in a low voice, "You mean you can’t protect me, can you?"
"Yes, but I can assure you, our side, I mean the Pentagon, definitely won’t betray you, definitely won’t leak your information to the CIA, I can promise you that."
Having informed Grins, Gao Yi felt he had fulfilled his duty. As for Grins protecting him, frankly speaking, Gao Yi didn’t hold such expectations.
"You know now, goodbye."
"Wait, the Pentagon can’t protect you directly, but if you could change your identity, so long as you survive the CIA’s first and most fierce round of revenge and make it back to the United States, then you would actually be safest."
"What do you mean, safest back in the United States?"
"Yes, the CIA can do anything they want outside, no one can check them, but back on U.S. soil, the FBI would love to give the CIA a hard time, and the Department of Homeland Security would also supervise and restrict the CIA from abusing power. Buddy, U.S. soil is where the CIA is weakest because they have to follow the rules. Do you get what I’m saying?"
"I got it, I’ll try to make it to the United States."
"My channels are mostly public; if you use our channels, you might be discovered quickly, so find a reliable route to the United States, and then the rest should be much easier. Let me think..."
Grins really came through, he didn’t push Gao Yi away but genuinely thought of solutions and suggestions for him.
But now time was really pressing, before Grins could finish, Gao Yi heard some movement outside.
"Can’t talk more, people are coming, will contact later."
Shaman’s people had finally arrived, the very National Intelligence Bureau that Grins preferred not to use.
They definitely had to greet before coming in to prevent friendly fire, so the National Intelligence Bureau people honestly gave a greeting before entering.
"Let them in!"
A group of people swarmed in.
They actually looked rather capable, and one could even say quite fierce, all of them strong and determined. Judging by appearances alone, the National Intelligence Bureau indeed sent their best of the best.
As they entered, a leader saw Gao Yi and proactively extended his hand.
Even having the mood for handshakes at this time, Gao Yi was quite impressed.
"Thank you. We’ll take over from here. Where is the person?"
Handshake, thanking, taking over, demanding the person.
Quite efficient, they seemed very capable. A group took over the villa, while Lin Xianghua and Li Jie voluntarily stepped back, and upon Gao Yi’s call, Lucy finally holstered her pistols.
With the takeover complete, Gao Yi motioned with his hand, opened the interrogation room’s door, and immediately two people went in and lifted the unconscious Abdulla.
Gao Yi pointed at two cameras and said, "Take these too."
Without needing Gao Yi’s reminder, the leader had already picked up the two cameras and then shouted loudly twice.
Couldn’t understand, but didn’t need to, because Gao Yi heard gunshots.
Shaman was well aware of the necessity of killing to silence, he wouldn’t leave any living witnesses for the CIA.
No living witnesses could be left, and physical evidence couldn’t be left either. The leader waved his hand, said a few more words, then the two carrying Abdulla quickly walked out, while two others who had brought large barrels began unscrewing the lids.
They started splashing gasoline.
The National Intelligence Bureau’s men seemed quite seasoned in doing this kind of thing.
After a huge mess, Abdulla finally ended up back in the hands of the National Intelligence Bureau.
And Gao Yi felt extremely lucky to be able to leave before the CIA’s arrival. At this moment, there was no mood to watch a house burning, he hurriedly said, "We need to move fast..."
It seemed still feasible, hopefully feasible.
But given the National Intelligence Bureau’s operational speed and sieve-like secrecy, once they had arrived, it was very difficult for the CIA’s people to be any later.
As Gao Yi spoke, gunshots suddenly started outside, and he could only let out a long, disappointed sigh and continued, "Break out."
