Chapter 172: Chapter 161: Can’t Help But Be Nervous
There were only six people, choosing who would go with Mu Tianwen to meet Shaman was a very important matter.
Lucy’s biggest advantage was her obedience, but her use wouldn’t be significant because once they were with Gao Yi, she wouldn’t be able to seduce the target anymore.
Of course, Shaman would not be seduced by Lucy’s charms either.
And, given the security level of Shaman, it was also impossible for Lucy to meet Shaman with a gun.
Then, because of the impossibility of carrying a gun, Lin Xianghua actually no longer played a significant role.
There was also Li Jie, who was a technical talent, perhaps good enough to fight, but again, without a gun, he wouldn’t be able to do anything.
No need to mention Luca, he was a non-combatant to begin with and now had to cover their retreat, so naturally, he couldn’t go with Gao Yi to meet Shaman.
That only left Feng Biao.
Feng Biao wasn’t really useful either; as a sniper, he wasn’t adept at close combat or fighting, but then again, who else was among the least trusted by Gao Yi?
Subconsciously, Gao Yi felt Li Jie was more reliable than Feng Biao.
And with Mu Tianwen’s participation in this operation, a sniper was utterly unnecessary.
Certainly, Feng Biao had his advantages, which were that he was articulate and perceptive.
Thus, having Feng Biao accompany Gao Yi to meet Shaman just to make up the numbers was enough.
"If this operation goes smoothly on my side, someone needs to extract the boss from the hotel. That task will be handled by Ah Gui and Li Jie."
Gao Yi then looked toward Luca, "Don’t go, just find a place to wait. If our operation fails, you’ll be in charge of helping Ah Gui and Li Jie to retreat."
Luca nodded, "Okay."
Gao Yi took Feng Biao to meet Shaman, Lin Xianghua and Li Jie went to retrieve Harold, Luca was to assist, but what about Lucy?
Gao Yi indeed found a suitable task for Lucy.
Lucy was obedient. She wouldn’t act on her own initiative or disregard Gao Yi’s orders, so tasks that required strict adherence to instructions without the need for independent thinking were perfect for her.
"Lucy!"
Gao Yi looked at Lucy and spoke softly, "You’ll come with me, but you won’t meet Shaman. Instead, you’ll surveil the National Intelligence Bureau building nearby. If the operation is successful, I’ll call you, and you notify everyone to proceed with their tasks, pick up the boss, and head straight to the airport to rendezvous with me, and then we will all evacuate."
Lucy nodded.
Gao Yi continued, "If you notice the operation failing or any unusual activity from the National Intelligence Bureau, you’ll inform Luca and Ah Gui, then you all must leave on your own, don’t worry about anything else, just head straight to the airport. If there’s no flight, drive away; if you can’t drive, find a place to hide, and then find a chance to escape. Do you understand?"
Lucy nodded, "I understand."
"Good, that’s settled then."
Originally, weapons were supposed to be used in this operation, but now, staying hidden was more important than having firearms, and even if they had guns, they couldn’t use them, turning it into a true silent operation.
Everything now depended on whether Gao Yi could control Shaman.
The arrangements were complete, Gao Yi checked his watch, "Alright, Old Feng, come with me. Everyone else, prepare and head to your respective tasks."
Feng Biao didn’t say much. He simply followed Gao Yi to meet Mu Tianwen.
"After all this time, to go without any weapons, this is a first."
Feng Biao smiled radiantly, showing no sign of nervousness or fear. He just said to Gao Yi, "Thanks for the trust, boss. Taking me for such an important task, I thought you might have taken Lin Xianghua or Lucy."
Gao Yi chuckled, "Because you’re the sharpest, we can’t really fight this time, and since there won’t be any fighting, of course, I chose the person with the sharpest mind who can adapt on the fly."
"My forte is exactly adapting on the fly, heh, I’m even sharper than a monkey!"
Gao Yi smiled encouragingly at Feng Biao.
Until they met Mu Tianwen, Feng Biao appeared quite normal.
But at that moment, Mu Tianwen seemed a bit nervous.
Dressed in a white robe, wearing a headscarf, and sandals on his feet, Mu Tianwen’s outfit was very formal in their context.
Seeing Gao Yi, Mu Tianwen spoke with a tense expression, "I’m a bit nervous, but I’m okay."
"Being nervous is right. You’re meeting Shaman as a last resort to save your father. But being just fourteen years old, it’s normal for you to feel nervous; if you weren’t, that would be abnormal."
Gao Yi wasn’t merely comforting Mu Tianwen; he genuinely believed it and encouraged, "Maintain this state; it’s good. You’ll talk less when the time comes, I’ll speak for you. That’s how I’ll get the chance to meet Shaman."
Feng Biao didn’t realize Mu Tianwen was capable of such mature thought; in his eyes, Mu Tianwen was just a fourteen-year-old boy.
Feng Biao felt slightly uneasy because teaching a kid what to do at the last minute, wasn’t it a bit late?
Mu Tianwen took a deep breath and then pointed at the several handguns on the table, "I had these brought out. Will we need them?"
"No need. We can’t take them in."
Gao Yi hadn’t even considered bringing guns. He glanced at his watch again, it was exactly 10 PM.
Shaman hadn’t called yet, but he had said 10 PM. However, considering that most people in the Middle East didn’t really have a strong sense of time, Gao Yi thought they might have to wait until after 11 PM.
But just as this thought had crossed Gao Yi’s mind, Mu Tianwen’s phone started ringing.
Not a minute off, Shaman was indeed a punctual person.
Mu Tianwen answered the phone with a hoarse voice, "Hello, it’s Muhan."
"Come to the office, there’ll be someone at the entrance of the National Intelligence Bureau to bring you in."
He hung up the phone after speaking, without adding another word. Gao Yi anxiously asked, "Was that him in person?"
Mu Tianwen nodded and said tremulously, "It was Shaman himself who made the call."
"Then let’s set off."
There wasn’t any specific plan; they were just improvising, nothing much to talk about or think through. Just do it.
But just then, Feng Biao suddenly asked the butler, "Can I have your turban?"
They were about to leave; why would he want a turban?
Mu Tianwen was also visibly surprised, and the butler couldn’t fathom Feng Biao’s request either, asking, "What for?"
"I think wearing a turban is better; it attracts less attention."
The butler was a bit confused, but Mu Tianwen said, "Give him one of my turbans."
A servant instantly brought a brand-new turban, complete with a headband.
Feng Biao took the turban and naturally put it on his head. He wore a quick-drying shirt, a pair of quick-drying pants, a tactical belt, and a pair of mid-calf desert boots. Paired with a turban, the outfit looked awkward from every angle.
However, Feng Biao twisted his head left and right and then said with a smile, "I feel much better with this."
A white turban, was this guy planning to use it as a white flag for surrender?
Gao Yi couldn’t help but have some doubts in his mind, but at this point, it was too late to say anything.
Maybe a white flag could indeed come in handy; having one could be a good idea.
When they left, they couldn’t take a professional driver, so it was perfect for the butler to drive.
They had to take Mu Tianwen’s car or rather Harold’s car. They went down to the underground garage in the elevator located in the living room.
Unlike ordinary homes or homes of the less wealthy, if Harold wanted a driver, the car would be brought directly to his door. But what if a wealthy person wanted to take a ride themselves? Naturally, they would choose the most convenient route and method.
The most convenient way was to have the garage right below the living room, accessible by an elevator. Exiting the elevator, they entered a vast underground space, and the underground parking lot held nearly a hundred cars.
Luxury cars, sports cars, and classics, all of which were playful, were available for choosing.
The butler picked up a Rolls-Royce’s car keys from a glass display case looking shelf, and Feng Biao, seeing rows and rows of car keys illuminated by special lights, couldn’t resist taking a set.
It was like choosing a lighter, the key to an Aston Martin.
Gao Yi looked at Feng Biao again; his actions today were numerous and rather curious.
"You don’t need to drive yourself."
Feng Biao grinned sheepishly, "I might never have the chance to drive this car again, can I just take a key as a souvenir?"
No matter the outcome, they wouldn’t be coming back today.
Gao Yi frowned, but Mu Tianwen waved his hand saying, "Fine, if you like, take a few more, they’re useless now."
With no sense of reluctance or sentiment, Mu Tianwen strode towards a Rolls-Royce while Feng Biao looked regretfully towards the nearby Aston Martin. He sighed and quickly walked ahead to open the car door for Mu Tianwen.
Feng Biao was good at this kind of thing. He indeed had an eye for detail but wasn’t used to luxury, and it pained him to see others abandoning their properties.
Mu Tianwen naturally got into the car, and after Feng Biao walked around to the other side and invited Gao Yi to get in, he opened the passenger door and sat down himself.
The butler drove the car out of the garage, out of the gates, heading straight for the National Intelligence Bureau building.
Gao Yi was still not nervous, but as they drove further from the house and closer to the bureau, Mu Tianwen gradually calmed down. His breathing had been heavy, but as the car moved on, his breathing steadied.
This wasn’t good; if Mu Tianwen wasn’t nervous, he wouldn’t seem genuine later.
Gao Yi whispered, "Not nervous anymore?"
"Not nervous anymore, nothing to be nervous about. At this moment of life and death, one must confront death to survive. Most importantly, I trust you!"
Gao Yi said helplessly, "Um, what if I said there’s no plan, and I’m not sure myself?"
Mu Tianwen exclaimed, "What?"
"I said there’s no plan, and I’m not sure. We just go and do it. If we fail, we all go down together. How would you feel about that?"
Mu Tianwen looked shocked, "You’re joking, right?"
"No joke, it’s for real."
Mu Tianwen fell silent for a moment, then suddenly said, "With the arrow on the bowstring, I have no choice but to shoot. Being nervous is useless."
He was a man used to handling significant matters, but Mu Tianwen being this relaxed wasn’t easy to deal with.
Gao Yi said helplessly, "You need to be nervous. If you’re not, it’s too fake."
Mu Tianwen thought for a moment, confidently said, "No problem, I can pretend to be very nervous. I can do that."
