Chapter 159: Chapter 148: Elder Brother’s Might
"We can tell Abdulla that there’s no suitable opportunity to strike, and then we can openly get close to Harold and tell Abdulla that Harold is planning to flee. We can make our move after we’ve left the country," Feng Biao’s plan was incredibly simple, so much so that it could be explained in just one sentence and needed no further elaboration.
Gao Yi thought about it seriously and said, "If Abdulla really has that much confidence, then let’s do it this way. We just need Harold’s cooperation for it to work."
With an air of ease, Feng Biao said, "Shaman has already raised the knife. What does Harold have to block it with? As long as he’s not stupid, he should know by now that he needs to run."
The Wind Vane had an acute sense of danger, of course, but as it turned out, not everyone was as cowardly as Feng Biao.
Gao Yi and his team drove back to Abu Dhabi. Upon their arrival, it was still the butler who took care of them, but this time they were arranged to stay in another mansion.
After spending a bit more time in the country, Gao Yi’s comprehension of residences was forcibly elevated to a new level.
The butler’s expression was grim as he led them, accompanied by roughly twenty guards, and then Gao Yi was called alone into a very small room.
The Number One Master had specifically summoned Gao Yi alone.
Great feigned loyalty often looks sincere, and great deceit often appears loyal.
Gao Yi feared that Harold’s seemingly forthright nature was actually a ruse to lure him in and silence him, whereas the Number One Master Harold feared that Gao Yi might seem loyal and righteous, but with the intention of delivering a lethal blow. Thus, Harold was still somewhat on guard.
However, Harold genuinely didn’t know that meeting Gao Yi alone in a small room, no matter how many people were arranged outside, was useless.
Harold appeared angry, but he didn’t look scared, which also put Gao Yi at ease.
Presumably, Harold had a way to ensure his own safety.
"I’ve been betrayed," Harold said.
This wasn’t exactly what he said, but that was the general gist when translated.
With a wave of his hand and a face full of anger, Harold continued, "I am extremely angry."
Of course, he was betrayed by Shaman. That didn’t need to be stated. However, Gao Yi wanted to know what Harold could do about his anger.
"My conflict with Fesari is an internal family matter, but my cousin seeks to use this as an opportunity to take away the wealth that belongs to us brothers."
Harold became increasingly agitated as he spoke furiously, "I got word that Fesari is working with the CIA. Right after you took him down, Shaman’s men captured all the scum Fesari had brought in, including two from the CIA. But after warning the CIA not to interfere with his affairs, he released them. His intention is clear, the next target is me."
Gao Yi almost didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
It was already blatantly obvious: either Sky Garden would implicate Harold or eliminate him. With the trap laid bare, why still adopt an analytical stance to say the next target is oneself?
It was like someone already had a knife plunged into your chest while still saying someone wants to kill me - if that’s not being slow to react, what is?
Gao Yi couldn’t hold back any longer, he said in a low voice, "Big Brother, let’s not talk about this anymore. Think about how to keep yourself safe."
With an estate worth tens of billions of dollars, no one would willingly give that up, not even Gao Yi. What he meant was, don’t fight over Fesari’s share anymore, just think about how to keep what’s yours safe.
Of course, Gao Yi didn’t have the right to say such things, so he simply advised Harold to ensure his own safety.
"What did you call me?" Harold frowned.
Number One Master became Big Brother for short, which Gao Yi just ended up saying out of habit when talking with Lin Xianghua and the others, and accidentally let it slip again in front of Harold.
Calling someone Big Brother in private was one thing, but face to face, that seemed rather shameless.
The man was a Prince, and you’re an assassin. Do you even have the right to call him Big Brother?
Gao Yi was somewhat startled; in a low voice, he said, "It’s just that... we’ve always referred to you as Big Brother because we feel that you truly embody the stature of a Big Brother. It’s a term of respect I use for you, coming from the heart, so I couldn’t help but say it out loud."
Staying close to the ink makes one black. Gao Yi had been in contact with Feng Biao for slightly too long, and he was getting better at buttering people up.
Harold’s expression changed slightly, then he suddenly said, "Very well, very good!"
What did he mean?
Gao Yi was slightly stunned, looking at Harold, unsure of what to say next.
"Although you’re young, I quite admire the way you do things. Even though you’re an assassin, I can feel your sincerity. You wouldn’t change your mind because of money, nor would you want to kill me for Shaman’s status. Even with threats from the National Intelligence Bureau and the temptation of 50 million dollars, you have still been able to uphold your own faith."
Harold wasn’t buttering him up, since he didn’t need to - he truly meant his praise of Gao Yi.
Indeed, staying near cinnabar means doing well for oneself. Learning how to sweet-talk a bit more from Feng Biao had done no harm.
Gao Yi, of course, couldn’t say that he feared the National Intelligence Bureau would throw him away after using him, nor could he say that he never believed Shaman would actually provide the 50 million dollars.
Harold stood up and walked up to Gao Yi, extending his right hand.
Was this for a handshake?
Gao Yi extended his hand, and Harold did indeed grasp his right hand, but with a pull with his left, he hugged Gao Yi’s shoulders, and said deeply and seriously, "I consider you a brother from now on. I’ve always believed that Chinese people can be trusted, and from you, I believe it even more."
Gao Yi was a bit stunned, but he carefully placed his left hand on Harold’s back and said softly, "I definitely won’t let Big Brother down."
Harold patted Gao Yi’s back a couple of times, then released his right hand and returned to the sofa where he had been sitting. Immediately, he said with an air of vigor, "Shaman may control the National Intelligence Bureau, and he is indeed strong now, but I won’t just wait for him to strike. I’m going to fight back!"
This was not something Gao Yi could readily respond to.
Continuing with confidence, Harold said, "We have thousands of princes. I can’t confront Shaman alone, so I’ll rally more people. Hmph, if he thinks he can seize our family’s wealth, he’ll have to see if we agree to it."
Gao Yi cautiously asked, "Big Brother, are you confident?"
"Of course, I’ve already contacted dozens of brothers. Shaman’s hold as a Crown Prince was problematic from the start. I didn’t plan to oppose him, but since he struck at me first, I have no choice but to retaliate!"
Harold’s conviction was evident. Confidently, he added, "Shaman wants you to accuse me of assassinating Fesari because he has no other way to harm me. If he could, he wouldn’t use such a crude method to remove me."
It seemed to make some sense.
Harold continued, "The people of the National Intelligence Bureau dare not strike at me directly, and no other assassin could possibly get close to me."
"That’s good. That’s really good."
Gao Yi genuinely breathed a sigh of relief, smiling at Harold and saying, "I was even thinking of advising you to flee abroad for a while, but it looks like I was worrying too much."
With a self-assured smile, Harold said, "I did plan to have you kill Shaman for me. But since you truly treat me as a big brother, naturally, I cannot ask you to do that. So go ahead, leave quickly. I have had the butler prepare an airplane, you can leave right away."
Gao Yi said in a low voice, "I’m worried that I won’t be able to leave. What if the National Intelligence Bureau is really keeping watch?"
Harold’s confidence reemerged with a smile, "Take my private jet. I’ll see who dares to stop it."
Gao Yi was shocked.
Still confident and grim, Harold continued, "Shaman wants to move against me, but before we openly break relations, he can’t intercept my plane, not even inspect it. I’ve already contacted many princes and influential officials; he dares not, he cannot!"
Big Brother is mighty, Big Brother is powerful.
Gao Yi thought of giving a thumbs up, but thinking how much that gesture resembled Feng Biao’s demeanor, he opted instead for nodding repeatedly and said with all sincerity, "Big Brother is capable. This eases my fears."
Harold laughed heartily and then waved his hand, "You don’t have to do anything. I’m only being targeted, but it’s you who would truly be in danger if you stayed. If I forcefully protected you, it would give Shaman a reason to come after me. So leave now, right away."
Gao Yi replied, "Okay, we’ll leave right now."
"The butler will take you to the airport. You can go wherever you want, direct flights worldwide."
Gao Yi had planned to fly directly to Baghdad since it was closer, but now it seemed better to fly straight to the United States.
Carefully, Gao Yi said, "Can I go directly to the United States? Fesari’s bounty has been canceled, but after all, he did contact the CIA. I’m worried there may still be some trouble."
"There won’t be any trouble. Fesari is dead, the CIA can’t get any benefits from him now. I know people in the CIA; they can only gravitate towards me. So, the CIA won’t trouble you."
Giving Gao Yi another pill of assurance, Harold smiled, "And now, the CIA needs to seek my consent for anything they do. If you want, I can even arrange for the CIA to pick you up in the US."
That’s going too far. For various reasons, Gao Yi didn’t have a good relationship with the CIA, and he knew the more he showed himself, the more dangerous it became. Harold might be able to make the CIA bow in Saudi, but Gao Yi couldn’t use Harold’s influence in the United States.
Gao Yi quickly said, "No, that won’t be necessary. I just want to return quietly, better if no one knows about it."
"I admire your discretion. Chinese people are always so modest."
Harold waved his hand, "You go ahead, the butler is waiting for you. Take your people and money and leave. If I need you in the future, I’ll contact you. The assassin business here is yours now, I have spoken."
A substantial and stable patron, the prospects look bright.
Hopefully, Number One Master will triumph in the struggle against Shaman. And even if he doesn’t prevail, hopefully, he can at least protect himself.
Gao Yi bowed slightly, a wide smile on his face, "I wish Big Brother all the best. Farewell, Big Brother."
