Chapter 148: Chapter 138: The Master
Feng Biao had never experienced such treatment in his life, a private plane exclusively for him—it was more than exhilarating, it was downright heavenly.
Everything felt so unreal, eerie in every aspect.
If he wasn’t running into ghosts, then there must be some conspiracy.
In fact, Feng Biao regretted boarding the plane the moment he did, because he felt his life was worthless, his reputation was worse than poor—it was universally detested. And yet someone was willing to receive him with such high standards—it surely meant they were after his life.
Assassin’s businesses were tough to get.
If it weren’t for his tarnished reputation in the mercenary circle, finding it difficult to get any work, Feng Biao would never have accepted an assassin’s contract.
Now, trapped on this proverbial pirate ship, it seemed too difficult to get off.
He just had to tough it out.
After the plane landed, a luxury car picked him up and took him directly to a mansion—a place that was more than resplendent, it was a paradise in the desert.
He got out of the car and entered the house, alert and vigilant, and walked into the living room.
"Here he is."
Feng Biao saw Gao Yi, whom he had recently met. Gao Yi greeted him casually, and he nodded slightly, a fake smile plastered over his face.
Though cautious at heart, Feng Biao still walked up, bending his waist, and cheerfully said, "Here I am, President Gao, it’s good to see you again so soon, I’m really glad to meet you again."
No handshakes were exchanged, as mercenaries don’t engage in handshakes.
Feng Biao wanted to express his joy, but it’s not like he could go up and curse, throw a couple of punches, and kick.
A hug was even less likely, and Feng Biao certainly didn’t have the credentials for that.
A mercenary salute was difficult too, not to mention whether the other person was a mercenary; the key point was that Feng Biao knew his reputation—if he saluted and the other person simply turned around and left, it would be even more embarrassing.
As if possessed, Feng Biao bowed deeply to Gao Yi.
He really didn’t know what else to do, so why not just bow.
Gao Yi seemed surprised for a moment, then reached out to buoy Feng Biao, saying, "Brother Biao, you’re too polite, too polite..."
Feng Biao straightened up, his face all smiles as he said, "Thank you, President Gao, for this opportunity. I’ve never worked with a professional assassin before. To cooperate with you, President Gao, is a great honor."
Cooperation, not a task, not after taking a task and having to complete it—Feng Biao was polite and courteous, but he quickly sought a way out.
If cooperation was not possible, it wouldn’t count as Feng Biao taking money and not doing his job, or deserting in the face of battle.
Gao Yi seemed not to catch the hints in Feng Biao’s words.
"Sit."
He motioned for Feng Biao to sit down, sat down himself, and then said, "You aren’t aware of the assignment’s details yet, are you?"
"Not having reached a real cooperation yet, confidentiality is necessary, this I understand, very much so."
Feng Biao was sitting on the edge of his seat, hands on his knees, more so than a primary school student.
Respectfully, Feng Biao softly said, "Your agent just told me there was a job, offering US$ 100,000, so I came, but he didn’t provide the specifics of the cooperation. President Gao, you can see I am very sincere, coming directly here but, no matter what, I still need to know what to do and who the target is. It’s not that I don’t trust you, but I’m just afraid that my abilities may not suffice and delay your important matters."
Gao Yi nodded and said, "Yes, I must tell you, here’s the thing, we need to kill a prince."
Feng Biao was first startled, then said, "Oh, that is quite... formidable."
Gao Yi continued, "If possible, it would be easiest if you could kill him with one shot."
"President Gao, as a sniper, although long-range sniping is my specialty, the tactic’s unpredictability is too great—I truly can’t guarantee it would be successful."
Gao Yi went on, "But looking at the current situation, the probability of a long-range assassination isn’t too high."
"Oh, that’s too bad. Well, President Gao, I think I’ll leave. I definitely won’t know anything and nothing..."
"But I still need you. I might need your cover, or maybe you to startle the serpent to scare the target into actions favorable to us. In short, I need a sniper."
Feng Biao regretfully said, "As a mercenary, I really can’t handle the precision work of an assassin, President Gao, not that I’m declining, but I’m afraid of delaying your big..."
Gao Yi didn’t entertain idle talk with Feng Biao, nor did he want to hear it, he simply stated, "One million dollars."
"How much?"
Feng Biao’s speech stalled, he swallowed and asked again, "What did you say?"
"One million, dollars, paid upfront."
Afterward, Gao Yi addressed a standing Arab next to him, saying, "This gentleman here is my guest. He is the best sniper, and I am offering him one million dollars as remuneration."
Gao Yi and Feng Biao had definitely been speaking Mandarin, but now Gao Yi switched to English.
The butler nodded; he had no intent to ponder whether the money should come from Gao Yi himself or consider if one million dollars was a reasonable price. He immediately asked, "In cash?"
Gao Yi looked at Feng Biao, seriously asking, "What do you prefer?"
Feng Biao felt as if he was going blind, though he could still see, his brain was unable to process the incoming visual signals.
What the hell?
Seeing ghosts in broad daylight?
Feng Biao shook his head, his words spilling out without thought.
"Really giving a million? I don’t want cash, I’m afraid I can’t take it..."
He regretted his words as soon as they left his mouth, but Gao Yi immediately said, "Then we’ll transfer it. This is my brother’s butler, he will transfer the money to you. Once you receive it, be ready to work."
With that, Gao Yi told the butler, "Please transfer one million dollars to him."
The butler nodded, then said to Gao Yi, "He hasn’t brought any weapons, so, what does he need?"
That meant, whatever you need, just say it, don’t ask about the price; just speak up quickly, don’t waste time.
Gao Yi looked at Feng Biao and said, "Speak up quickly, make a list, specify any special requests clearly, and hurry; we are pressed for time."
Feng Biao was staring blankly at the butler when the butler’s assistant promptly asked by his side.
The butler couldn’t care less to deal with Feng Biao for such minor matters; naturally, his butler would handle it.
"Please follow me, what do you need?"
Feng Biao stood up, and while he felt like he was walking on cotton, after hearing the butler’s query, he quickly responded, "I have an account, you can just transfer the money, I’m not worried about being tracked..."
"What do you need?"
"Oh, um, get me a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle. I’m quite familiar with that ... preferably competition-grade ammunition."
Feng Biao’s ulterior motive.
The TAC-50 is a bolt-action sniper rifle, highly accurate, which holds the record for the longest confirmed sniper kill, but it only has a five-round capacity.
The small magazine size and slow firing rate mean that this gun can essentially only be used for offense, for shooting high-value targets, but cannot be used to provide cover or suppression.
Essentially just fire off a shot from a distance, basically having no chance to shoot a second time, so there’s no way to fire against a large number of enemies.
The TAC-50 is expensive, Feng Biao has only managed to use it, but speaking of being very familiar, he was barely competent to use this rifle.
"Okay, do you need to test fire?"
The butler’s assistant helpfully asked one more question, then within his authority, he continued, "You can take all these weapons with you."
Use them, but take them away?
Feng Biao was astounded as he looked at Gao Yi, who nodded and said, "If you perform well, they are all yours after use."
Feng Biao stopped in his tracks, his mind in chaos, so he said bafflingly, "Do assassins earn this much?"
Gao Yi didn’t speak of earning, he just gestured and said, "Go prepare quickly; if you’re fast, you’ll need to work tonight."
Feng Biao was sent away, looking bewildered and clearly suffering from a significant psychological impact.
At that moment, the butler received a phone call, then he told Gao Yi, "They are here."
Gao Yi perked up and said, "Please show them in."
The plane picking up Feng Biao had taken off from Abu Dhabi, landed in Baghdad, and after preparing for the flight, it picked up the slow-moving Feng Biao.
But the plane picking up the nun was different; to save time, the butler directly arranged for a private plane from Europe, and the efficient tone of the Revenge Blade ensured the nun was on the plane, so despite a longer distance, the nun and Feng Biao almost arrived back to back.
