Chapter 144: Chapter 134 Crowdfunding
The Dark Web in the Middle East is imperfect, which is why it is prefixed with "Middle East."
The real Dark Web, or the only one that is global, is simply called the Dark Web.
No one cares what the website address is, as long as you say "Dark Web," everyone knows which site it is. That’s the difference.
"Do you know what this is called? This is called a declaration of a punitive expedition. A wrongful name leads to illogical words. No matter why a war is started, you always need to find a justifiable reason for yourself. This is called executing a righteous punishment from the moral high ground."
You can’t really say what Fesari did, although none of his actions are deserving of being called human. A sad reality is that there aren’t many people mixed up in the Dark Web to begin with, and most of them are scum of the earth, beasts.
How do you convince such inhuman scum that Fesari deserves to die, and under what guise do you nail Fesari to the pillar of shame in the Underworld?
The simplest reason is that he doesn’t pay up.
If someone doesn’t pay for work done, who could tolerate that?
Gao Yi said to Luca, "So you need to write it like this: say we did the job Fesari wanted, killing his target, but he didn’t pay the agreed upon seven million dollars and even wanted to kill us. Just write it like that."
Luca hesitated and said, "But... who would believe that? Fesari is a rich man."
"Don’t worry about that, just write what I told you."
Following Gao Yi’s instructions, Luca wrote it out, checked that the sentence was coherent, and then clicked send.
Luca let out a breath and sighed, "Actually, we shouldn’t expect anyone to really pay. It’s like a fundraiser. Who would be foolish enough to donate to an unknown assassin organization to kill a major figure who isn’t part of the Underworld? So while your idea is good, but... damn!"
With an exclamation of surprise, Luca then stared in bewilderment at his phone screen, "Someone posted that they want to donate a Bitcoin to support our take down of Fesari?"
Gao Yi looked over and uttered an exclamation of extreme astonishment at the first comment under the post.
"Holy shit! Shit, shit, shit!"
The post had been up for less than a minute before someone declared their support for Sky Garden’s revenge and generously offered a Bitcoin to back Sky Garden.
Gao Yi said, trembling, "Quick, check how much a Bitcoin is worth today!"
"Over twenty thousand!"
Luca frantically checked the price of Bitcoin, and during this short span of time, another comment appeared.
"Fesari is a well-known rich man. I can’t believe he would default on a commission of seven million dollars."
"The task was posted on the Dark Web of the Middle East. You can look it up. The Middle East Dark Web still has a completed mission post, with URL..."
The second comment, the origin unknown, was not controlled by Gao Yi and his team—nor was the third comment.
Then, the fourth comment appeared.
"Think about it. If Sky Garden was really paid the commission, what reason would they have to declare war here? Do they think Fesari is an easy target, or do they not want to take Fesari’s tasks in the future? So the truth is simple: Fesari simply won’t pay and seeks to silence them. Is this kind of thing rare? Have you never encountered it before? Does this even need proof?"
A divine assist from a slightly famous account; regardless of the truth, it simply seemed more realistic that Fesari wouldn’t pay because indeed, that fits reality better.
Two minutes had passed, and there were four comments. Not just on the Dark Web, even on major websites, this would count as a fast commenting speed.
Luca, with a shocked expression, said, "People are really paying attention, huh."
"This is the power of a declaration against a thief. Regardless of the truth, people will only believe what they want to believe."
After cheerily finishing, Gao Yi laughed, "Who would do this kind of thing normally? But who asked us to be abnormal."
As soon as he had finished speaking, another comment appeared below.
"If you hadn’t been cheated out of a commission and faced with being silenced, would you post this on the Dark Web? This isn’t even a task, this is a new assassin organization’s desperate outcry against a rich man. To verify the authenticity and to genuinely earn everyone’s approval, I suggest Dark Web officials get involved. I am willing to give the money to the Dark Web, who can then forward it to Sky Garden. If that’s the case, I’m willing to support with ten Bitcoins."
Gao Yi read the latest post and suddenly said, "Could this person be a shill for the Dark Web?"
Luca asked seriously, "What do you mean?"
"Usually, it’s employers who post tasks, and assassins accept them. Now we have assassins actively seeking to take down someone; this could become a new model."
Considering the new trends on the internet at home, Gao Yi suddenly said, "This isn’t called a reverse bounty; it should be called crowdfunding!"
"What?"
"Crowdfunding. Contact the Dark Web; if they’re willing to endorse it, we can discuss a division ratio and turn this into a Dark Web-endorsed crowdfunding task."
After some thought, Luca immediately got in touch with Dark Web customer service.
A few brief exchanges and Luca, utterly astonished, said to Gao Yi, "The Dark Web agreed to create a new section, turn our task into a brand-new task model, taking ours as the first crowdfunding mission. They’ll take a thirty percent cut, and all future crowdfunding missions will be fixed at thirty percent. The Dark Web will post an announcement."
That’s it?
Gao Yi couldn’t believe it unless the Dark Web’s shill was stirring up trouble.
It was just a post on a discussion forum, more of a vent, but in less than five minutes, it became a new Dark Web model.
The reactions were overly quick.
Creating an entirely new section takes time, but for the Dark Web’s official account to post a comment was a matter of minutes.
"The Dark Web officially affirms the authenticity of this incident. We maintain a neutral stance on this event, but if anyone wishes to support Sky Garden, please do not transact personally. This can be treated as a Class A assassination task, the type being a crowdfunding task. If the crowdfunding reaches over ten million, the Dark Web will take responsibility for reclaiming the crowdfunding funds."
Gao Yi and Luca were stunned, then Gao Yi said urgently, "No good! The Dark Web wants to cut in! We started crowdfunding out of a lack of funds, but with the Dark Web meddling, it becomes a task where we only get paid after completion!"
As Gao Yi’s words ended, another comment appeared below.
"Sky Garden is crowdfunding because they lack funds and need the money to take down Fesari. What the Dark Web is doing—how does it differ from a normal task?"
A high-level bigwig account, then this account continued writing, "My suggestion: pay half to the crowdfunding initiator first, and the other half after the task completion."
"I’ll support Sky Garden with ten million dollars, no need to go through the Dark Web. Please contact me."
In just ten minutes, a mere ten minutes, the situation turned again and again, twisting like a roller coaster ride, up and down.
Luca watched Gao Yi in disbelief, "Should we contact?"
"Contact!"
Luca opened the private chat with the bigwig account and just sent a "hello." Immediately came the reply: "Account."
Luca bit the bullet, stamped his foot, and sent over his Bitcoin receiving account.
In less than five minutes, five hundred Bitcoins arrived in the account.
Speaking of ten million dollars, they got almost fourteen million, because that’s the going rate for Bitcoin.
Looking at the avatar, it was the silhouette of someone wearing a headscarf.
The three men fell silent.
The rich man’s extravagant actions dealt a strong psychological blow to the three, who were not overly worldly wise.
For a long while.
Gao Yi whispered, "Big shots are big shots, so... so..."
They didn’t know what to say.
Luca let out a long breath and said, "Someone really wants Fesari dead, don’t they?"
Lin Xianghua tremblingly said, "They’re afraid we won’t be able to kill Fesari; that’s it, right? I’m not misunderstanding?"
Luca wiped his mouth. He took a deep breath and said, "I don’t know what to say anymore."
Just then, someone posted a comment on Luca’s post.
"Fesari has published a bounty in the neighboring assassin section: two hundred million dollars to take down Sky Garden. Now I believe Fesari truly refuses to pay."
Gao Yi looked at Luca with a hint of panic, and Luca said with a quiver in his voice, "Two hundred million? Are we worth two hundred million?"
"Sky Garden is done for, but I still hope Sky Garden can eliminate the untrustworthy Fesari. As an assassin, I support Sky Garden ethically."
"Ethical support is useless. I support Sky Garden with ten thousand dollars."
"Fellows, I’m now convinced that Fesari is the kind of employer who wants to silence others. I support Sky Garden with ten thousand dollars."
Luca’s post had all the elements of becoming a hot topic. In the Underworld, matters of murder and silence were too common, so common that everyone had grown accustomed to them.
But now, an unknown assassin organization declares war on a famous rich man, and it seems the denizens of the Underworld have found an outlet for their frustrations.
Another heavyweight post appeared.
"I have transferred twenty million dollars to the Dark Web. If Sky Garden takes down Fesari, this twenty million will be given to Sky Garden. I despise Fesari. He’s scum, and I want him dead."
Luca nearly cried, turning to hug Gao Yi tightly.
"We... we’ve made a name for ourselves!"
Sean had exhausted all efforts to make the Garden famous, then he died, and the Garden was about to go under.
All Gao Yi wanted was a reason to clear the Secret Action Bureau’s involvement in this mess. Yet, the name Sky Garden, coined on the spur of the moment for their operations in the Middle East, blew up.
Exploded spectacularly.
There’s really no sense to this world.
No doubt Fesari was furious. Saying he was inhuman was acceptable, calling him a big bad guy was also fine, but accusing him of not paying was the ultimate insult for a super rich man.
Fesari was so agitated that he put up a two hundred million dollar bounty.
So, while comments were favoring Sky Garden, those who silently sought to find and terminate Sky Garden would only be more numerous.
Gao Yi twisted his neck and said, "Now, how to take down Fesari is no longer important. Surviving is our biggest challenge. Two hundred million dollars, huh... Our lives sure are valuable..."
