Chapter 135: Chapter 125 Worth It

Li Jie hadn’t woken up yet.

Judging by his appearance, Li Jie seemed to be in his thirties. He shouldn’t have been very thin, but due to hunger for too long, his face was a bit disfigured. His skin was very loose and rough.

Now Gao Yi was better at makeup than most women, so even being a man, he had habitually checked his skin.

It was an occupational hazard.

Aside from his skin being in poor condition, Li Jie’s face, hands, and neck were covered in many small wounds, which were almost all inflamed.

Looking at his height, he should have been about one eighty meters tall. It wasn’t too clear while lying down, but there shouldn’t be any major deviation.

Moreover, even after stripping off all his clothes and treating those wounds, there was still a stench on Li Jie’s body.

Gao Yi couldn’t identify the smell until Lin Xianghua told him it was the smell of decay.

"Wake him up."

Gao Yi ordered, and the nurse beside him injected an unknown liquid into the IV tube. About a minute later, Li Jie’s eyes in his stupor suddenly moved.

Struggling to open his eyes, Li Jie then tried to sit up abruptly, but the moment his head started to lift forward, Derek placed his hand on his shoulder.

They were experienced. They did not let a patient move violently upon waking up for the first time, hence the precaution.

Li Jie was pinned to the hospital bed, and Derek said sternly, "Don’t move! Stay calm!"

Those scenes in movies where soldiers or wounded men from the battlefield speak softly were nonsense, especially with soldiers who had been captives, or rather hostages, for a long time. Gentle speaking had no use; how could a brain and nerves that were always on edge respond?

Therefore, you had to be strict, loud, and make people who had formed a conditioned reflex calm down instantly.

Although this calmness was born out of being scared.

Sure enough, Li Jie stopped moving. Wide-eyed, he looked blankly at Derek.

Derek let go of his hand, patted Li Jie on the shoulder, and said softly, "You are saved! You’re safe now, it’s fine, relax, relax."

Li Jie did relax his tensed muscles. Derek took a couple of steps back, and then Gao Yi stepped forward, saying, "Hello."

Li Jie turned his head, looked at Gao Yi with a puzzled expression, and then suddenly said, "You saved me, right, I’m out now..."

Li Jie took a long breath, closed his eyes again, and after a while, he opened them and said to Gao Yi, "Thank you!"

"Think nothing of it."

"Why did you save me?"

Li Jie looked at Gao Yi, earnestly asking, "We don’t seem to know each other, and I don’t know anyone in the military, so... why did you save me?"

"Because you can make guns."

Gao Yi was quite candid. He reached out his hand and said, "I know your teacher. He recommended you to me. I want to make the most, most powerful gun. And then, as fate would have it, I ended up saving you."

After speaking, Gao Yi smiled and said, "Indeed, you should really thank me, I went to a lot of trouble to find you."

Li Jie just stared straight at Gao Yi and said, "Just for that?"

"Yeah, just for that. But hearing others’ opinions about you, I guess it was only right that I saved you, or rather, you deserved to be saved."

Gao Yi finished with a smile and then said, "What happened to you afterwards, how did you become..."

Li Jie’s eyes suddenly widened. He swallowed and said, "Don’t ask, please don’t."

"Eh, alright, I won’t ask."

Li Jie said anxiously, "Can I have a Coke, an ice-cold one? Give me a Coke, cold."

Gao Yi paused, but after thinking for a moment, he gestured to Lin Xianghua.

Li Jie kept licking his lips, even though they weren’t chapped at that moment.

Lin Xianghua went out, bought a can of Coke from a vending machine, and brought it in. Instead of handing it directly to Li Jie, he gave it to Gao Yi.

Gao Yi popped open the tab and handed the can to Li Jie, who sat up in bed, took the Coke, and took an eager gulp.

Actually, Li Jie wasn’t dehydrated at the moment. The desperate need to drink wasn’t a physical necessity, but a psychological one.

After a sip, Li Jie realized he wasn’t as thirsty as he thought, so he paused. But quickly, he held the can and didn’t put it down, gulping the entire can of Coke.

Once he finished, Li Jie belched then set the can aside and immediately bowed his head, his shoulders heaving as he began to cry.

Gao Yi had experienced near-death, but he couldn’t comprehend the mindset of a newly rescued Li Jie, because their experiences were not the same.

Derek was a medic, and he understood these things better. Upon seeing Li Jie’s silent sobs, he gently said, "It’s over, all over now. Don’t think about it. Go ahead and cry, cry out loud, cry freely."

It might have been a bit awkward, but Gao Yi stealthily observed and realized that everyone in the room, except for himself, had a solemn expression on their face.

Suddenly, Li Jie cried out loud, chokingly saying, "I told her we could have a Coke as soon as we got out, I said I would treat her to a Coke..."

Gao Yi didn’t know who she was or how old, but he knew that she must be dead.

Li Jie just said that much, then stopped talking and simply covered his face and sobbed loudly.

After about five minutes of crying, Li Jie suddenly flung himself back and lay down on the bed again, then covered his face with a blanket.

Covering his head, refusing to come out, Li Jie muffledly said, "You want to make a gun, what kind of gun."

Gao Yi perked up, saying, "To make a good gun, to make a..."

"What specific gun do you need, what are your requirements?"

"Something... that can shoot accurately, a gun that’s fast and accurate in combat."

Li Jie sighed and said, "Simple. Anyone can make that. What’s the use, for competitions or actual combat?"

"Actual combat!"

"What’s the operating environment, and what are your size requirements? How high is your reliability demand? Bullet capacity, trigger pull, tell me all your requirements without any ambiguity."

Gao Yi hesitated for a moment and then said, "Well, like, something that turns someone into a sharpshooter."

Li Jie lifted the blanket, looking at Gao Yi with a helplessness, "Specific requirements, specific requirements! Are you taking it into actual combat? Is it for use in Baghdad?"

Gao Yi shook his head and said, "It’s just something I carry with me, ready to pull out and shoot when needed. The place could be anywhere, really."

"You must be a rookie; you can’t even articulate the practical scenario. You definitely don’t know how to use a gun."

Li Jie saw right through the essence of Gao Yi but then confidently said, "However, you can rest assured, leave it to me. As long as you know how to pull the trigger, I can make you a good gun. Just let me see how you shoot, and that’s enough."

Gao Yi was elated.

It was worth it. Just for Li Jie’s words, for his confidence, all the effort Gao Yi had expended was worth it.
