Chapter 272: Volume 4, Chapter 260, Untitled 2
An hour later...
Lin You and Feil left a candle store.
"We hit the jackpot this time!!" Feil happily transmitted his voice to Lin You’s embrace. "The stuff on that stall was dirt cheap! Little You, we’re so lucky."
"What do you mean?" Lin You, who was clueless, asked in confusion.
"Let me tell you, a Barrier Sphere normally goes for over seven thousand Euros, and that’s for the lowest grade. And this one we got, take it out and have a look."
Lin You took the Barrier Sphere from his pocket, a pale red stone that resembled a pebble.
"So, what about it?"
"This one can almost certainly be classified as Intermediate Level Barrier Sphere, worth at least tens of thousands..."
Whoosh... a car drove by close, raising a breeze.
Sss...
The surface of the Barrier Sphere, a fine layer of pale red, quickly faded away. In the blink of an eye, it turned into an ordinary pebble.
Feil hadn’t finished speaking when he abruptly stopped.
"What’s wrong? Is there something off?" Lin You asked in confusion, tossing the pebble.
"No... No way..." Feil’s voice trembled. "We invested all our money in it!!"
"Could it be?" Lin You’s face changed.
Feil hurriedly asked Lin You to put down the pocket, and they started inspecting the contents right there on the street.
The Barrier Sphere had been thoroughly confirmed to be nothing more than an ordinary pebble. The metal chain was plastic coated with silver, and the so-called sand grass was just an ordinary green plant from the roadside. The only item given as a bonus, a black gem-like dragon egg fossil, could not be discerned as genuine or fake, but given their guess, it was probably a fake as well.
"We’re... we’re done for..." Feil said with a look of despair. "That guy must have already run away!"
"Sigh..." Lin You also sighed, "Let’s just go back then. We still have some spoils of war we collected before that we can sell." She patted the small bag on her back, "It should be worth a bit..."
Suddenly, her face stiffened.
"You’ve got to be kidding me..." Lin You quickly shifted her backpack to the front.
There it was, at the bottom of the backpack, a gigantic tear clearly visible, with a few strands of cotton thread trailing out, fluttering in the wind.
"Now we’re truly finished...."

The bell signifying the end of class rang. The classroom immediately turned from quiet to noisy.
Lin Fei began to pack up the books and notes on his desk.
"Lin Fei, let’s go to the cafeteria," Du Xiaosheng and Shi Ran called from the doorway.
Suddenly, the sound of a water spring came from Lin Fei’s body.
He took out his phone and looked at it.
"You guys go ahead, I’ve got some stuff to deal with today, I won’t join you," Lin Fei said to the two.
"Then we’re off first."
The two of them disappeared into the crowd and quickly turned into the staircase and out of sight.
Within moments, the classroom was left with only a few people.
Lin Fei pressed the call button.
"Hello?"
"..."
Complete silence on the other side.
"Hello?" Lin Fei repeated.
If it weren’t for the faint sound of breathing, he would have thought there was no one on the other end.
"Is someone there?" Lin Fei asked tentatively.
"Mm...." Finally, there was a voice, and it was a very familiar one.
"Is that you, Little You? What’s up? Just tell me."

Outside of Capital City University, at an unknown location...
Lin You stood beside a public telephone outside a small shop, gently biting her lip.
"Speak up, Little You! What are you afraid of?" Feil urged impatiently.
But Lin You just couldn’t squeeze a word out.
"Little You?" Lin Fei’s voice once again transmitted from the phone. "If there’s nothing, I’m going to hang up."
"Don’t!"
This time Lin You couldn’t hold back. "Could... could you come and pick me up..." she whispered like a mosquito.
There was a moment of surprise on the other end, likely not expecting Lin You to say such a thing. There was a brief silence.
"Alright. Where are you now?"
"Where?" Lin You looked around with a confused expression, seeing nothing but high-rise buildings. The crowd was a dense mass of passersby, and the traffic in the road appeared unchanging.
Feil was speechless.
"Ask the shop owner, for heaven’s sake! How did I manage to contract such a dim-witted Contractor?!"
"You’re no better!!" Lin You retorted in her mind.
After learning her location from a shop owner who was watching TV, Lin You immediately relayed it to Lin Fei.
"Just stay where you are, don’t wander off," Lin Fei instructed before hanging up the phone.
Suddenly, Lin You felt an empty feeling in her heart.
After thanking the boss, she walked with the kitten to a small tree by the pedestrian walkway and stood there, waiting for Lin Fei to arrive.
"I can’t believe my phone was stolen too..." Feil kept muttering.
An hour later...
Lin Fei got out of a taxi. As she saw Lin You standing by the roadside, the silly girl awkwardly waiting under the tree with a little black cat in her arms, any resentment she had held towards Lin You due to the fang incident started to slowly dissipate.
"She’s still just a kid after all," Lin Fei shook her head slightly and paid the driver.
Only then did she walk up to Lin You.
The girl hung her head, seeming embarrassed. She had never taken the initiative to ask Lin Fei for help; their relationship had always been like fire and water. But given the current situation...
"Let’s go," Lin Fei could tell this guy must have faced some setbacks. "I’ll get you settled first."
"No need!" Lin You replied hastily. "I... I just got lost for a moment... Just tell me the way... that’s all I need."
"Really?" Lin Fei looked down at her. He was now half a head taller than Lin You.
"Yeah..." Lin You had no idea what she was saying. She just felt her mind was muddled, and the words just spilled out.
"Then you can find out where you are at the bus stop, what’s the matter? I’m in a hurry; I don’t have much time," Lin Fei checked the time on his phone. "Besides, you should be able to catch a bus to the train station from here. The stop has the information; go check it out for yourself. Since it’s nothing, I’m going to go."
After making things clear, Lin Fei turned to walk back.
"Wait!" Lin You suddenly said.
"What else is there?" Lin Fei turned and asked.
"I... I..." Lin You’s face turned red.
"What is it? Speak up," Lin Fei said, slightly impatient.
Lin You took a deep breath but couldn’t muster a word.
"I’m leaving if you don’t speak up. I still have classes this afternoon," Lin Fei turned to leave, feeling helpless.
"Could you... lend me some money..." Lin You’s face turned completely red like a tomato, her body feeling hot.
"What?" Lin Fei looked blank. "What did you just say? I didn’t catch it."
"I said... lend me some money," Lin You spoke softly.
"Speak up," Lin Fei’s lips curled into a slight smile. "What was that?"
"I said... lend me some money!!!" Lin You finally exploded, yelling loudly. The passersby around them all turned to look, and even people across the street glanced over.
The previous store owner also stuck his head out, curiously watching the two of them.
For a moment, the atmosphere became somewhat stagnant.
Lin Fei also had not expected Lin You to explode like that. He was taken aback for a moment.
"Sorry, I don’t have much money on me," Lin Fei said with a smile. "Let’s go, I’ll get you settled. I’ll buy your ticket tomorrow; you should go back early."
"You just came to see me make a fool of myself!" Lin You said angrily. "I don’t need your help; I can go back by myself!!!"
Her face flushed red, Lin You was about to walk back but saw Feil nonchalantly following behind Lin Fei.
"You!!" Lin You pointed at Feil, trembling with anger. Suddenly, a warm palm landed gently on her head.
"What’s with you! Hurry up and follow," Lin Fei said, smiling as he messed up Lin You’s hair.
Lin You stood there frozen, rooted to the spot.
"We are leaving," Lin Fei turned around and hailed a taxi on the street.
"Oh!!... Oh..." Lin You followed, still dazed.

Ping City
In a room crowded with scientific equipment, Cheng Guang and Merrill each sat at their computers, fingers flying over the keyboards.
Surrounding them were screens that flickered intermittently and some white curve graphs scattered on the floor.
"How’s the fusion test going?" Merrill asked while gently sipping a cup of instant coffee.
Cheng Guang picked up a newly printed graph: "Very good! We should complete it by tomorrow. Is it just your new power?"
"Hmm, my ability mainly comes from my own research and analysis, establishing models for simulation," Merrill answered nonchalantly.
"Originally, the Energy Scepter from the Wood System was the weakest in terms of Attack Power, but with your research, it’s probably now at least in the top three. Impressive," Cheng Guang said with a smile.
"It’s nothing, if you don’t have innate talent, you compensate with hard work," Merrill put down her coffee. "I’m going to the bathroom; can you keep an eye on this for me?"
"Sure," Cheng Guang nodded.
As Merrill rose and went into the bathroom, a click was heard as the bathroom door closed.
Almost at the same moment, Cheng Guang immediately stood up and took Merrill’s seat. Her fingers rested on the keyboard, but her eyes swiftly swept over the counters around her, swiftly locating a white refrigeration box.
"Merrill has been very vigilant over this refrigeration box recently; there must be something important inside," this thought flashed through her mind. Cheng Guang quickly reached out, touching the box. A hint of gray flashed in her eyes.
In her perception, the entire refrigeration box suddenly became semi-transparent, revealing its contents swiftly before her eyes.
Whoosh!
Click!!
From the bathroom came the sounds of flushing and the door closing.
Cheng Guang quickly withdrew her hand. Looking at the data on the screen nonchalantly as if nothing had happened.
"How is it?" Merrill asked as she returned.
"Very good. Everything is normal," Cheng Guang made room for her.
"Is that so? It all depends on tomorrow then, whether this new model will be successful," Merrill sat down, picking up her coffee and taking a big gulp. (To be continued.
